I just spent 40 minutes watching a lecture on leather and leather care and I don't own a vehicle with leather and I hate leather. But I was so impressed with their knowledge I couldn't shut it off
This is a fascinating video Matt. So much info condensed into this video. We can all benefit from these products in some manner or form. Content is king!
I'm a technician formally working with Color Glo International but now working with another company using Colourlock product for leather repairs and restoration and I must say... Colourlock product is the best so far
I have seen Ram and Lars on The Forensic Detailing Channel too. The amount of knowledge they have is just mindblowing. Colourlock make some really good products. I've been using them for a few years now.
I’ve watched both parts twice and still feel I need to watch this more. The amount of knowledge and information they have is incredible. Fantastic video
I’ve been reading detail forums for better part of 10 years and this is the first time I’ve heard a fact based explanation of why you still need to condition coated leather. The discussion of increased permeability over time was fascinating. The idea of treating leather differently year 1-3 vs 3+ makes so much sense I’m mad I didn’t think of it.
I’ve been down to these guys in the Uk and bought these products for my own car They could not have been more helpful and talked me through every aspect and took time to colour match to my exact requirements I’m not trade just a regular car enthusiast Take your time and follow everything to the letter and you can get exactly the same result
ColourLock makes an amazing product, been using it for about a year, then saw the review on the ForensicDetailing channel and that reaffirmed my findings. Great to see Lars and Ram in the OG HQs.
These gentlemen were awesome! So honest and knowledgeable. They didn’t say oh you need every single one of our products. Some products can be used on multiple surfaces if needed.
WOW. great video Matt, thank you so much for this. I was impressed with your visit to Meguiars HQ. But man these guys are the real deal. Waiting for Part #2!
Matt, this will be an interesting comparison to something like leatherique. They’ve been doing it for years too. Curious to see your thoughts in PT 2 and hopefully you can share some insights comparing both.
This was great to listen too. Very informative. I guess its time to invest more into the colourlock line. Since i bought my 2015 ford f150 lariat last year I've been cleaning my leather with woolite diluted to 5:1(the one without all the fragrant crap in it) and a colourlock brush and wiping it dry with a terry weave microfiber towel.
Awesome. You've smashed it out the park again by getting the best of the best to talk to you. My steering wheel needs some work and I'm also interested in the alacantara products and the vinyl stuff for my dashboard. Thanks for sharing, Matt. Look forward to the next episode.
I would love to see some leather restoration using the dye. The Rotbraun in my BMW could really use it. Hopefully either you or TRC do a video on this!
Matt - I saw your video on Leatherique and now the videos on the Colourlock products. I have cream colored leather in my 1997 car that need some help (feels dried out). Which product would you choose?
Looked on your site, couldnt find this stuff on there... is it in the works? I would feel dirty buying off amazon with all the free knowledge I have gotten from you. As always thanks for the great vid. I did get a good laugh when he said "its a patience game", I guess they have seen the last six videos on the M5 and are trying to hint at something ;)
Really like colourlock! A SwissVax detailer introduced me to it 8 years ago when I was in France. Since then, anything I’ve tried doesn’t come close to their leather cleaner and conditioner!
A long but very interesting video. Good to see that they spell Colour correctly (Americans take note and check out the spelling of harbour, centre, aluminium etc in the Oxford English Dictionary)😀
Does this "shield" product help new leather extend its "three years of freshness" ? Or will the leather end up needing the conditioner after three years regardless of treatments?
Man this content is invaluable to the community - thanks for a great informative video. From the looks of it ... -Swissvax leather cleaner = colourlock mild leather cleaner -Swissvax leather cleaner forte = colourlock strong leather cleaner -Leather cleaning brush looks identical from both companies I’m unsure if Swissvax leather glaze = colourlock leather shield or colourlock leather protector and where Swissvax leather milk comes into play? If Colourlock manufacture the products for Swissvax and they’re the same products but different packaging it begs the question how Matt will set up the leather maintenance portion of the interior package now
I'm with you there! I like watching someone detail a nice car, but I hate doing it for myself. lol This is timely, as I have two cars at about 3 years of age with leather interiors that needs a little attention. One has a drivers seat that is getting a bit too shiny for my taste. Looking forward to the next videos on this! PS: What would they recommend for protection against methane gas (with hydrogen sulfide gas)?
I've used this product on my BMW with leather and it worked very well and left a nice matte finish. Based on the video, I guess I would need the Artificial leather kit for my wife's Mercedes with MB-Tex leather interior. It would be interesting to see a comparison of ColourLock and Swissvax Leather care kit.
So my brother-in-law has that king ranch leather and it’s beautiful leather but it’s so finicky, and I wasn’t sure what we could really put on his leather for him and I didn’t want to recommend like Gyeon’s product line such as their cleaner... Now the information on the brushes that was very interesting, at least for my leather on my Subaru I’ve always used something like the creature with Gyeon’s leather cleaner and I just use that to clean my leather because I don’t let it get too dirty to where I really need to have a brush but I’m going to try that brush theory unfortunately I have some chemical guys leather protectant left over🤦♂️
I wish I would have been able to ask these guys their opinion on the coming synthetic leather companies like Modern Meadow who are producing biological synthetic leather which is indistinguishable from cow leather but never came from a cow. They produce it from the cells up. Super interesting stuff and I think the future of leather and eventually the future of edible meat.
water vapor permeability or water/liquid permeability? Cos im pretty sure we dont need gasses to penetrate the leather but liquids like condtioners / cleaners. Cos if i farth which happens in traffic jams I dont want my gasses to reach the leather necessarily :D, And yes that grandma cover on your steering wheel is a fabric, no leather :P. I did know that, but learned a lot in this video. it was informative!!!! good job
Steven Power Oh Ok ! When Matt spilled some out it reminded me of the SV leather milk , I really like that stuff but it’s pricey , the CL seems to be more reasonable, I Buy my products from Matt so when he gets it I will buy it
Nothing penetrates top coated automotive leather period. Edited my previous comment. Didn’t mean to disparage anyone. Simply, it’s coated for durability to protect against normal wear and tear.
He was trying to take over the conversation because the other guy isn't well in English. I would prefer him to speak actually since he is better in English
