I used to work with him. He’s one of the most genuinely good and humble people that I’ve ever met. We risked our lives in some of the worst situations anyone can fathom, and his message is one of the strengthening factors that got us all through.
This is a video from a very educated man. He has a message that is both clear and direct. There is no confusion in the use of his terms leaving you to wonder the meaning of his given message. My view is that character is defined by what is done with what has been accomplished. An Army Drill Sgt is not there to be "your nightmare". The Drill Sgt is in place for you to learn how to apply yourself and discover the growth and direction of your potential.
Im on my own here where I live with my own Mother Diane thats it. My service was Unofficial and I am very proud of it. I saw alot of combat. After youre done and there are dead bodies on the ground you start thinking of religion and God. Its something that happens to you. I sent a letter to the church here where I live but when I went I did not step into the church itself, I have an understanding that I am extremely busy with something extraordinary right now and for the future. You will always be my friend.
This august I will be participating in a 100 km march, which i have never done before. But this talk strengthened my resolve! I CAN DO THIS! Not the destination, but a journey matters! Thanks mr Naves for inspiring me!
Evert Clowting You just keep putting one foot in front of the other and one day you look back and see that you claimed a mountain. You can do it! It’s the journey that matters and the people that join you on that path.
In my class in the special forces, I had the luck to discover what he’s talking about. You don’t need to name it after a divinity. Just trust life and know there’s something greater than you. This talk is amazing. In the military YOU are responsible for everything. Every failure equals a punishment in training, could be worse in other situations. The fact to recognize what he’s saying isn’t “the easy way”. I don’t follow Christianity now, i’ve turned to oponopono, only me and smth superior. “I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you”
Oponopono? Is he/she (or both) related to the Flying Spaghetti Monster with noodley appendages in the Pastafarin belief system? 🤔🤓😁 💗& Light to you backsies my friend! I love you unconditionally!
Thank you Sir, for your service to our country and thank you for your message of truth. And, thank you TEDx for having the courage to allow free speech to exist within your forum - THANK YOU.
Deep down in the mud, you find your personal low. No mother, father, diploma, girlfriend, vanity or other alternate ego. It's lonely, cold and very painful. You find the strength to pull yourself out of the mud, alone, broken from your past. You will rebuild, stronger, faster, smarter and learning from those who know, the professionals👊🏻
This was an excellent video. And just what I needed being that I'm in that cloudy stormy stage where your willingness to full fill your destiny is questioned. That question of quitting pops up often. It's nice to see that it's all a part of the process and a part of the plan. Thanks for the insight, the reaffirming, and the truth behind this part of life. God Bless. -Nick Cordes
I found this talk very inspirational and motivating, I found it that it reconfirms my thoughts over special operation operators and selection courses. All the way even to the end, I my self am not any means religious but I see it for him, its his fire its his drive, its diffrent for everybody. Some people do it for family some do it for pride and so on, he might of done it for a "destiny". But the moral of the story is not to give up and never quit, no matter the reason keep pushing.
Iam a vetren turned Christian I joined army 1979 it was brutal at times the idea wasn't to pass you it was to fail you but if you didn't succeed the first time you could get back squaded and start in another platoon from the beginning, it takes humility and determination to get tru just basic, I was never going to be good enough to pass selection for the SAS but over the years I had the privilege of meeting some of these men ,all of them humble just your ordinary sons and fathers, but true warriors, Iam 60 now riddled with arthritis and feeling so sorry for myself, I truly needed to here this man,set a spark alight in my soul, thank you father for my brother
I always believed in you. I am finding my way. Thank You for your help. Your friend Jeff - I know you always had my back - its hard sometimes to remember people that you havent met in person.
I have learned I receive what I need when I need it if I BELiEVE! This includes inspirational people who really care. This is one of those moments of receiving & now the sharing of this light is OUR responsibility & service that brings US joy in this lifetime. REMEMBER ALWAYS...NEVER RING THAT BELL!!! Keep shining 🕯 for all of the 🌏 to 👁✳👁 WE are ALL born with purpose & you are stronger than you think 👼💡🌠🕊 🦁 🐾👣Pass it on 👉💗💜🌊
Thank you Angel. This was inspiring and changing because you brought it back to one truth Our God given purpose. To fulfill our destiny. This is why this was so great!!!!
When I was asked why I didn't quit, I simply replied "I volunteered for this, so I deserve everything that came my way!" No I wasn't a SEAL, but I was tested in a Military course....8 of us passed out of 60.
I find it interesting that finding those with the "heart" to make it were sorted out so soon, also that so many were the ones that were not expected to by initial expectations, maybe not being the strongest or the smartest made them more likely to be able to dig into themselves and overcome. I also love his definition of leadership. Great message, and I thank you, I lost my purpose when my girls left home. Now I know I am not done, I just have to find my NEW purpose.
Reading 2 John 1:8, "Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward," gives new meaning to the perspective of Hell Week, but eternal in perspective. The phrase "full reward" is the impression of a runner that is letting up just as they near the finish line. God is telling us NOT to give up, but as you say Angel, to RESOLVE to continue to the end. Thanks for your service and your talk. God bless.
Reading 3 John 1:9, "Watch yourself homeslice, that you do not lose your teeth, but that you may receive a full knuckle sandwich," gives new meaning to the perspective of Friday night, but eternal in perspective. The phrase "knuckle sandwich" is the impression of a homie that is letting up just as they take a haymaker to the jaw. God is telling us NOT to pussy out, but as you say Angel, to DISSOLVE with the force of the fist. Thanks for your comment and your biblethumping. God is dead.
Oh, please quote some of the violent stuff in your big book, like, where everyone who believes different or nothing will go to hell for eternal torment. Go on, don't be shy...!
beast You're sooo pathetic; but I guess you/IT already knows that. Jesus is GOD & GOD CREATED JESUS, HE finally then Created the HOLY SPIRIT. This manifests IN ME! SO U BE QUIET, in JESUS MIGHTY NAME!!!
@@camilleroseministries lol @ "Jesus mighty name". Most people in the world think what you're saying is bs, if you'd grown up somewhere other than America you'd be worshipping some other god or none at all.
I agree the video title is misleading, as he only touches on CQD briefly, but the man literally goes out of his way to make sure he's disclaiming his religious beliefs as his own personal views and clarifying once spoken that he doesn't wish to preach and that he's just providing context. Chill out in the comments guys!
I loved this video. He seems like a great lead.Ive lost faith in humanity, but I hope im wrong, and I personally find the strength in my own self to take on the fight that is life. Believing in oneself AND in others is so admirable, and im questioning my faith, or lack of faith,in my country right now. I desperately want it back, and I will get it back.I think I'll use this as a tool. All of you who took the time to complain about his religious veiw, and his RIGHT, are probably too young to understand, and don't realize how shameful you should feel.He just bared his soul, mabey you should attempt to find yours. There is more to this story of life than just you, and like he said, the most important thing is other people. Putting down your ego and truly caring for one another is the most powerful thing that's exists, and your not a real man until you figure that out.
TED talk diversity. Love it. If this one offended you there are hundreds out there in all flavors, including the profane. Diversity and tolerance should not be a one way street.
this isnt ted talk. this is tedX talk. Which explains why this guy is getting one. You can just pay the Ted guys money and you have to give it the Ted look. My favorite quote of his: You cant judge a book by his cover". Genius.
Yep. Instantly lost some of his credibility in my book. But I also question the views of just making the struggle enjoyable and the fact he states that all that really matters is that you continue. That's essentially just demoting people to mindless robots, which is a reason why robotics and ai is taking over more and more jobs because way too many people are content with just surviving, and never truly experience any deeper purpose in life. I can't just accept a life that is there just for the sake of proving I can exist. It's pointless, and if proving your own potential for existence is all that people care about in you, then I couldn't care less about them. It's not the fact that you stay alive that's important, it is HOW you live that matters.

great Ted talk. a lot of the spec ops folks are just your average looking Joe but with a lot of tolerance to keep on going even when the sun doesn't shine upon you.
What makes you think they're scared or offended? Irritated because they had to listen to a bunch of Jesus nonsense when they thought they were going to be watching a talk that's actually relevant to the title of the video is more like it.
QuasiELVIS he only mentioned Jesus at the end, and how it was HIS method for getting through it. He wasn’t telling you to believe in him, just telling you about how HE got through it and the strength he and myself included call upon in times of struggle.
SEALs no longer use the CQD combatives program. Going through decades long wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, they learned that CQD didnt adequately prepare them for unarmed fighting. They now train in MMA style system which includes elements from boxing, muay thai, judo, wrestling, and brazilian jiu-jistu. And actually works.
I once asked a retired Navy SEAL / martial arts school owner about the now discontinued CQD and SCARS. He told me that issue with the systems included opaque trainer background and lack of tactical applicability to their assigned missions. He teaches MMA, BJJ and KM
Let's lift people up, and never put anyone down, we all need help, many just pretend that they don't need the help, but we all do. Positive encouragement for everyone. God bless the world! Jesus is the name by which we ALL must be saved. Thank the Father in heaven who is blessed forever. Amen!
About as well-spoken and convincing pitch for God as I've ever heard. Listen, I dunno if He's actually there. I read the Scriptures, and I pray, but I can't say if I'm actually heard or not...all I know is, it is sure comforting as heck just even imagining that such an author exists. That's what I consider to be Him working in my life, but I can't be certain, again. Again, well said. I had a guess when you mentioned 'the author of that ultimate truth is?' but I was like, naaa he ain't goin' there...but you soo did! Ha! I half expected a rick-roll at the end of this Ted talk lolz
You would think, seeing as most the comments here agree this man was making sense, people would be able to draw the correlation between this man's faith in Christ and scripture and the wisdom he speaks with. Most ppl think of Christianity as foolishness believed only by fools. So how do reconcile on one hand, solid teaching, and the other religious "stupidity" coming from the same person? A foolish, deceived person rarely gives, or lives by, sound principles or wisdom. So it stands to reason that it's possible the majority of opinion about Christianity is based in misunderstanding of its actual content and intent. Don't be so quick to dismiss his message because you don't agree or understand his beliefs as he does. And ask yourself if there is something you may not have correct in your view points of things.
Derek Newport (and others similarly) commented "I was absolutely sold, until he went religious. I'm not sure its my interest." i say Just use the part u were sold on to improve ur life if u feel u need to do so. The part about God can be left for after ur dead = deal with the ensuing emptiness or mr.pointytail. i myself stopped boring ppl by telling them whether my morals were religious based or not - they would forget within a minute in any case.
You weren't really listening, were you? Watch it again and really listen. You should also note that he's giving the talk at a Christian school, not a military school.
I am completely befuddled as to why anyone would be surprised and offended by his Christian comments to a CHRISTIAN school. Isn't there enough information out there for you non-Christians to research that isn't under a Christian context?
i dont want to judge someones believes or faith.. really... but sometimes i find it very sad that many people who achieved something great for themselves or others truly believe that the reason was god... i mean it get it, everyone needs something to hold on to, but man acknowledge that YOU did it. maybe your comrades helped.. or a familiy member... but the core message should be, you achieved something, because YOU got the guts and the drive, or the passion. and you belittle yourself with putting something "greater" over you. dont want to judge people who have a strong faith, it is just my opinion.
I'd be ok with it as long as they equally blamed all the bad things on god as well. If you think god made you a successful soldier then that same god must have killed your friend in the war and given your family member cancer.
Well done Angel. Your service is commendable. However, you may not have lost your Oaks Christian School audience, but you lost many on RU-vid when you went down the path of preachers. I personally believe you have a message, so focus on that. Keep your political and religious views tight, they’re irrelevant to the message. Yours respectfully UKSF Veteran. To the rude critics and armchair warriors. If you have nothing constructive to say, then say nothing. Lions don’t concern themselves with the opinion of sheep.
Don't moan about the God stuff folks, he said multiple times that he's relating this insight through his experience/choices. Taylor it to *your* choices, family or happiness? :)
Behind all Creation is a loving Father God who wants nothing but the best for us. His Only-Begotten Son Jesus Christ died on The Cross for the remission of sins. The cost of redemption of your eternal soul was paid with a great price. Thanks be to God. Viva Cristo Rey! Ave Maria
