Portainer reminds me of Container Station on my QNAP NAS. I've finally migrated my containers from my Pi 3 to my NAS. That poor pi has been running 24/7 for 5 years now and can finally rest/wait for another project. The beauty about Docker is simply that you can do as you please. For now I have three containers running: deconz for zigbee smart home devices, home assistant and pihole. Services like portainer or container station make deploying and managing containers so much easier.

@stefanvalentin9157

@@cooldudesunny007no, you don’t. Running the command “docker run….” NetworkChuck provided, will automatically create the volume portainer_data and use it to store the different files portainer need like configuration files. Basically that volume, portainer_stuff, will not be used at all
@muhammadnurirfanzulkefli6128
@muhammadnurirfanzulkefli6128 6 месяцев назад
@@cooldudesunny007 Dont know if you still need the answer but running the docker command with portainer_data will automatically create the portainer_data volume. If you have created a volume prior to running the command, the volume will exist, just not being used by the portainer container. You can see this under your environment > volumes in portainer dashboard. Hope this helps!

I'd recommend Hashicorp Nomad over Portainer to anyone. Portainer has a few bugs that can become a headache like an entire stack will crash if you try to add a new service. Or having to add each image source as a registry before you can free pull (even using the advanced option). It also lacks features like pulling artefacts directly into the container from remote sources like Git.

Why would you want to do it over wireguard? The edge key IS encryption. Is this not secure enough for you? Is your initial purpose security? Or is this a "because i can" scenario? If that's the case. It seems Edge connects over standard FQDN:PORT. Providing DNS is set to resolve internal DNS addresses. It should work fine over wireguard (or any other VPN) .

Chuck, I'm starting to do my own stack templates to people deploy on portainer with one click and use variables for absolute no brainer in deploying an app. Even used stacks instead of compose to really ramp up the potencial of portainer. The more amazing thing is that instead of Nginx, traefik is configured so you can change things with containers and compose runnings without restating. The name is one-click-stacks. PS: don't even need to download the composes since portainer supports .json tempplates, so you really need a copy and paste the link in the templates and its ready to go.
