Drop the kite and get yourself a 7ft foamie surfboard. I promise with your snowboarding back ground the only hurdle you will face is learning to take off. A couple of lessons and a little dry practice will get you over that hurdle. Surfing is where its at. Great to see you trying something new. More power to you my good man. 😊 🤙

Thanks man. I tried surfing here once. Managed to ride for a few metres first attempt then spent the next two hours bailing 😔. Looking for new things to do in this non-riding season. Looks like I'm going to be here for a while anyway so yeah, that and wakeboarding are likely next. Thanks for the tip 👌

@@iRideSkiSnow try everything!! Haha Surfing is a bit like that at first, take off practice is the secret. You look and feel like a bit of a kook but indoors, dry repetitive(100's) pop up will lock in that muscle memory and help alot with the most difficult part of wave riding. Go get it, go crush it. 😊 🤙

@Paul Faulconbridge I admire your optimism about 'crushing it' 😂. Last time, the only thing I crushed was myself. But yeah, everything you're saying about practicing the launch part makes sense. I reckon my balance should be mostly alright - if I can just stand up on the thing in the first place. Want to get riding with the kitesurf first - then I'll be looking at the other stuff. Again, thanks for your tips and advice. Cheers man ✌

@@iRideSkiSnow my pleasure kind sir. If you are ever back here in the UK. Come and have a week or so down here in Newquay. There's a board and suit waiting for you. I can guarantee, we will have you up and riding in no time. You're always welcome. Enjoy your new adventures, Im looking forward to watching your Endevours. 😊 🤙

@Paul Faulconbridge Thank you man - that's hugely appreciated. Super good of you to offer 👌🙂. Atm the UK means an almost €2k fortnight in an isolation hotel but hopefully that will change. Regardless - seriously man - thank you. The best invite :D. Cheers

Keep at it. The first week is the toughest, after that, you learn when up and riding.

Thanks mate - yeah, I have a feeling this is one of those things that just suddenly clicks. Knowing how to ride a board will - eventually - be an advantage hopefully. Cheers for the advice 😀

How come you are only using one hand and one of the strings is tethered? Is that so you can hold the camera?

I definitely can't claim to be in any way knowledgeable on this but, so far, I've been encouraged to use only one hand at a time. I'm guessing that's to try get you to learn a bit more how the kite works. For example, most of that footage was filmed without me looking at the kite - instead, trying to build muscle memory and knowledge just from feeling what the kite might do next. I guess that's kind of important cause you can't just be looking at that - you also need to look where you're going. And there's one thing I'm learning for sure - you always need to be aware what it's up to as it constantly changes as the direction and strength of the wind changes. Most of the pull in this sport seems to come from around your core - so those central ropes are tied to your waist while the outside ones are on the bar and dictate the angle of the kite. Again, I could be completely wrong with this, but that's my understanding atm. I'll be putting up another one of these next time I go out. If you get the chance, I 100% recommend you try it. Never done anything quite like it but it's hugely addictive. Cheers for writing man 👌😀

@@iRideSkiSnow Thanks for replying so quickly. I can understand the muscle memory thing as I fly stunt kites occassionally and there is a lot to be distracted by. It was interesting to see that the kite just stayed up and steady even when you were half drowning :-) Hopefully he snowboarding experience will com ein useful eventually.

Drank a fair percentage of the Atlantic that day but it's good nonetheless. The chest cam makes it look worse than it was obviously as it's underwater. Still, a very steep learning curve. The kite won't just stay up - you need to pull to the left or right - but it's a really surprisingly subtle twist movement in your wrist. I didn't realise this either. I thought from videos that it was a constant fight, both hands, more like wakeboarding. It seems not. From the limited amount I currently know, it's way, way more subtle than that. Twist more to the outside, the kite will raise higher. Change the angle more into the window, it'll potentially catch more wind. Remember, I'm only two lessons in here so everything I'm saying might transpire to be total guesswork bullshit - just being honest 😉 The snowboard element will hopefully help from an edge control POV but I think you spend most of your time on a heel edge in this sport. Again, I say that advisedly and will no doubt find myself corrected as I learn more. Cheers for the questions/feedback
