To everyone that wsnts to try to play this....the drummer that wrote this part, it took him 6 MONTHS to be able to play this one song. Just this song....took 6 months to learn. So never give up if it doesn't happen in a day.

Warmup for double bass: singlestroke pyramide on feet. one bar each: half note, quarter notes, quarter triplets, eights notes, eights triplets, sixteenth notes. play it up and down and with increasing metronome for half an hour.

as a deathcore drummer, i would suggest that you use mainly ankle when playing double kick. Also you need to build the ankle muscles so you can raise the spring tension on the pedal. higher spring tension means the pedal will come back faster which can increase your speed.

Try tightening the spring if you are doing fast double pedals.

I took drum lessons from Chip Ritter when i was younger and he always said to stretch properly, then practice rudiments with arms and legs getting faster until you cant but dont push yourself, if it hurts take a break. He also said keeping it at a slightly slower than an "as fast as you can go" pace keeping the timing/hits consistent for as long as possible helps with stamina. He always told me if you could get consistency, timing and stamina developed well it makes learning more complex things later on much easier. He also recommends learning jazz rhythms, said id be surprised how well knowledge of jazz playing translates to other genres. In combination with other practice methods of course

My warm up for double bass drum is a subdivision practice. Play a basic drum beat with hands. 4 bars of each on each subdivision. Quarter notes, Quarter note triplet, Eight notes, Eighth note triplets, 16ths, and then 16th note triplets and now repeat 4 times.

To warm up my legs I play stepmania for a few minutes on a slightly-too-difficult song. If that’s not an option, I play immigrant song but line up my kick drum with the bass guitar line. My hands warmup usually takes longer, but you have really good chops so it’s probably not necessary.

Just a small tip; use the plastic beater on your kick pedal instead of the felt beater for more defined attack. So basically just loosen the beater, rotate it 90°/180° and retighten. Free snap without any post processing.

You could try putting your feet higher on the pedal, it gives you more control. Try this warm-up, Heel-toe (left foot), heel toe (right foot). Second exercise: Heel (L), Heel (R), Toe (L), Toe (R) and all kinds of variations. You can do this on the drums and on the subway or bus or while you're waiting for something. Try this: when you play with your heel, you use the weight of your leg, but when you play Toe, you lift your leg and you put your toes down. Love the videos, keep up the good work.

The pattern morphs as the song goes, it's only triplet one triplet one triplet one for the very beginning then it moves to triplet one two triplet one two, and continuing goes back and forth as the song goes it's truly amazing.

Thank you so much for going out of your normal marching style content to going to metal. I personally practice my feet by doing eight nots starting slow and after a minute I bump the tempo up my a few clicks. It takes quite awhile to do and is quite an exercise so feel free to drink as much water as possible.

As a guitarist, this is one of the hardest ones for us too. Most people work on their fretboard hand, and their picking speed and accuracy while learning guitar. While most of Bleed makes Smoke on the Water look complicated in terms of the left-hand, the right hand has to have speed, accuracy, AND stamina. Weird rhythm patterns aside, the sheer stamina required for this song (for guitarists and drummers alike) is almost unmatched. ...But let me tell you, getting it down to the point where you can play the pattern consistently without even thinking about it is a godly feeling. And this is coming from a guitarist. I can only imagine the satisfaction you feel when you can play the whole thing on drums.

You can break this down a number of ways. I would think of it as if you are breaking down a feature. Take it one beat/phrase at a time. Water it down as far as you can. And slowly add in the beats until you reach fruition. Now think. “Great! You did it. Now do it again.” Love the content man!

I think a great way to internalize where the 3 is in each bar is play hertas on your hands and accent the 3 in each bar.

I warm up for double bass I use is singles(RRRR), doubles (RRLL) single-double triplets (RLL LRR) and just play a rock beat on the hands and go from there. If you do it for aprox 20 mins, increaseing your metroponome when you're comfortable, you'll be warmed up. Keep paying kit man, I love watching you try a different style lol

For warming up on double bass, I do 8 bars of 8th notes and 16th notes with increments of 4 for 16th notes. For your legs tho, idk if you bounce your legs when you get bored/anxious/habitually/whatever but it's the same thing with double bass; you wanna leave the balls of your feet on the footboard and use your calf muscles more than anything. Your thighs will provide the power but your calves will provide the dexterity.

If you'd like to try a "kinda" warm-up, there's something called the Bonham Engine you can try. Obviously inspired by John Bonham, but he would use this while doing his Moby Dick solo. It's essentially 8th notes with alternating feet and hands at the same time. One foot on hi-hat and one foot on kick and you're using the snare for the hands. So the exercise is Left Foot with the Right Hand, and then Right Foot with the Left hand. You get it fast enough and it sounds really cool. I recommend watching a video from the channel "Bonzoleum" and he explains it

Playing paraparaparaparaparapara-diddles up and down the kit is a fun way to warm up the hand juices. Over even paraparapara-diddle. Just do however many paras you want

Thomas Haake also did say that it took him so so long (6 months) to get it right, they were unsure if the song was even going to make the album as he wasn't sure if he could play it. He also said that normally he is leaning forward to get power into his hits. In Bleed he is sitting all the way back and is barely touching the kickdrum with the beaters, just because it's so difficult

Try this quarter notes- alternating 4 bars singles 2 bars for each foot. eighth notes alternating for 4 bars then singles 2 bars each singles with foot. Then move to eighth notes alternating using it as a check pattern for 2 bars then go to 16th notes for 2 bars and keep alternating between the “check” and the 16th notes. And obviously progressing tempo as you feel comfortable with each tempo.

In terms of warm up on drum set.....So for me it mostly goes...sound check 40 mins (starting with hitting individual drums, then whole kit for maybe five minutes then play three or four whole songs). Hour break. Hit things for ten minutes to stay loose (work out anything that went weird in sound check). Dinner. Have a beer. First set (1hr plus) Twenty minute break, stretch legs coz ouch) Second set (1hr20most nights). Lie down and say ow. Drink more beer. Repeat most nights. I think drummers, like singers, tend to overdo the warmup. You just need to be ready to start the gig but not so overworked you are crumbling towards the end of it.

my warm up is jamming to a song... that way whenever you start playing you are ready to play. i use heavier sticks to get my forearms warmed up though. rudiments and stuff as well. when you play trap enough, your body becomes used to playing all the time. warm ups are for older guys or people that play once or twice a week, instead of everyday... playing double pedal at this song's level though takes a lot of dedication. calf exercises... always walk on your tip toes. jog where you bounce on your toes up and down to build the stamina. do calf raises up a mile long hill, or up and down a short hill multiple times a day...squats and frog hops too... literally, calf raises with every step, walking up a steep hill will get your calves in shape in no time. skateboarding too, but most people that skateboard can't play drums like that... i haven't been able to get my double bass back yet. i've been using a completely different set up from when i was a kid. while my body thinks i can still do those things, i've found that i forgot just how long it took to train my legs to play drums. literally years, though i rarely practice every day. gotta let your body rebuild the muscles. except drums need stamina build, not muscle strength. so every day practice is a chore but a necessity if you really want to play double bass at that level. .

Good morning, not sure if anyone's mentioned it but playing slower takes more control so it's bit more difficult. There's a middle ground between holding back to go slow and pushing to go faster where you do good if you know the beat. Can't wait to see the gong-hats

One time I tried to learn this beat. This was before I learned that picking up your heel makes double bass so much easier. So I did it by tapping my foot. My shins have gained consciousness and are even allowed to vote
