The general theme is that children playing never really changes. So we need to capitalise on that in education to change. There has been a lot of changes recently to what we teach, so now teachers need to catch up to change the way we teach.
Yes, education needs to change as a whole - but that will take years. In the meantime, teachers can make small changese in the classroom to make huge impact on students and their desire to create.
Shahneila Saeed, Director for Digital Schoolhouse, has a strong background in computing education, having worked as the head of computing/ICT at Graveney School for 15 years. Shahneila is also a Computing at School (CAS) founding board member, through which she became part of the working party which proposed the Computing curriculum. Now as Head of Education for video games trade body UK Interactive Entertainment Association and, Director for the creative computing education program Digital Schoolhouse powered by PlayStation , she promotes a love of computing in both students and teachers, working to deliver the programme in primary and secondary school settings, as well as colleges and universities. Shahneila works to secure funding for the programme and develop powerful links with the video games and other digital creative industries. Additionally, Shahneila is a published author, having written Hacking the Curriculum: Creative Computing & the Power of Play co-authored with Ian Livingstone, Computing & Programming Quick Experts Guide, and OCR GCSE Computer Science Teacher Resource. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Such good content destroyed simply by audio .... You need to hire some better audio editor.

Yes, all we need is some babysitters at schools. No teachers. Since kids learn everything through play. Writing, reading, calculating, science-knowledge all come, only and exclusively, through actual teaching, in actual classrooms, by actual teachers in actual schools. You acquire a skill in only 1 way: practice. Of course children learn how to socialize through play and how to communicate with peers, solve small conflicts, but to say learning through play is the be all end all is an abomination.

You can make any learning activity a game... you can teach any concept through play if you open your mind to that. It is literally the goal of many of todays curriculums...
