In the initial part of this process, I reviewed the XK110S kit in general and did some flying in gyro mode (with stabilization). It's time to take the training wheels off and fly in 3D mode (which is what the manual calls it - but it's essentially a regular non-stabilized mode)

You and Lee have made me start flying my quads line of sight. It is definitely a challenge. Thanks for the video.
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten Год назад
I apologise for that :) Whilst I don't particularly enjoy line of sight, I think you should at least be able to get your quad under control and land it just in case your VTX dies or something. Not too bad if you have angle mode set as a "panic" switch

can confirm your pins should be same length on xk k110S..Thank's for sharing the though process on flying these little 110S micros as they get my heart beating and smiling often and yep i'm a beginner of 1year with helis hehehehe..ccp is on a whole new level. bought step up E120S which is direct drive after totalling 1st one in first week "default settings" and cut my leg open when it went rougue started flying the 110S definitely better starting point..2nd E120S not as wild now that i understand how to dumb down D/R and pitch/throttle curves.

It's a tough little thing, you are definitely progressing. Nice to see you learning and not just jumping to when you can fly great.

I'm not sure if that jump cut to me being great will exist :) Some things just take time and practice, and then some more time and practice

Having your helipad so close to a metal gate scares me.

You actually have a good hold of it. My friend who only fly's RC Heli's said to me several years ago that the one thing he realized helped him was to practice doing fast accelerated direct forward flight and to then learn to stop it's forward motion extremely quick and then hover a bit then reverse accelerate and do the same. Then graduate to doing same in left & right sideward flight ETC. He says that when he has not flown for a time, he will at times run several batteries in this manner just muscle practice to help him start into 3D. Other than the 3D part, its not too far from real basic heli learning. very good.

Awesome flying, Wayne! 😃 But yeah, flying LOS is never easy. I lose the orientation pretty easily. 😬 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊 BTW, at least it didn't kill you... Yet! 😬

Give it chance, there's still time for it to kill me :D
@jwdrone512
@jwdrone512 Год назад
Carry on like that. You will learn it. Maybe you can lower the headspeed a bit so it wil respond a bit slower. and a bit of dual rate to tame it down. O and don't fly your battery that empty because it will kill them... Happy flying

It's a pretty good radio for an RTF bundle, but one thing it lacks is a timer. I got a slightly spongy response from the throttle about 10 seconds before it fell to the floor. Ill set a timer on my phone or something

Well done with sticking to this journey mate! I know how difficult helis are to fly LOS and once you can, you can fly anything. One point i would like to mention is to do with 'committing to a turn' when its a little hard to see orientation. Nearly all of the time, the culprit is not enough rudder, or rather stopping the committment of rudder input when you're not sure what way round you are. The trick is to keep commited to the rudder and then you wont have to "catch" the overbank (roll) as you come round the turn, exactly as you described. To put it simply, the rudder is what keeps the turn turning, without it you're just rolling and tipping the helicopter over, right? When you're flying, if you're unsure, keep doing what you were doing and stay committed to roll and rudder. I sadly learned a lot of those lessons many moons ago when helicopteres were only big and lots of money per crash lol. Keep it up!
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten Год назад
Cheers NJ - I will be committed. I think part of it was the worry of that head wind blowing it into me. Less roll, more rudder next time

You need to use Yaw much more with a Heli when in circuits. So, watch the nose, NOT the tail...This and roll cyclic together all the time. I used to fly IC helis back in the 1980s...Easier in circuit than in hover...🤔😳😳😳🇬🇧
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten Год назад
Yes - I'm getting that from multiple sources - use yaw more. Noted :)

Hi wayne I started flying helicopters this year having flown quads and having the same problems with roll, ive gone from the K110 to the OMP M2 and its much more stable, still going to use the K110 to practice for its resilience
@CurryKitten

I hear very good things about OMP. Glad it's not just me having these initial issues :)

Hi Wayne, Way back in the early 1990s when I was learning collective helis (Concept 30SR if you want to know. Glow engine and a Gyro that actually had powered spinning weights). I was taught to fly figure 8s. Also try not to get to far away. Guess I'm teaching granny to suck eggs as I never got the hang of quads. Miss the old Mad Dog meets.
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten Год назад
Hi Mark - I think figure 8's seems bit easier than full circuits as you have more time facing yourself in order to correct any roll errors - that' what I was picking up on before it decided not to work any more.

The main rotor blades are too loose in the blade grips.
@999wilf999
@999wilf999 Год назад
Well, it's far more robust that it looks! Have you considered adding any nav lights to make keeping orientation easier? For example, stick a bright white LED on the nose and a red on the tail. It could be interesting to look up what's required for something like a BMFA Helicopter A Test and see how long it takes you to get to that standard.
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten Год назад
I can tell the front and the back - the problem can be at certain angles (and especially in this sort of light) you might think it's coming towards you when it's going away. I think I was starting to get the hang of using the line the blades made to figure out my roll before my session was cut short - but I'll hopefully pick up where I left off from last time. Good idea on the BMFA test... whilst I'm not much of a club joiner, I can take a look at the skills and see if I can replicate them - which might be useful as a benchmark in how I'm doing - cheers

Actually, the canopy is made of metal of some sort, I wonder if that infleunce the radio receiving somewhat, especially the direcrion; transmitting from behind or from the front (tailin/tailout)

Don't want to be a wise guy but triple checked, scratched on the inside, the white paint, with a scalpel, turns silver color, makes metal sound, does not conduct electricity, now I'am a confused guy. Now I want to know, I'll use chemicals, burn it! I will not sleep till I know

Howdy, and hello. Thank you for another great video, pls keep up the good work. I would like to get into rc helicopter flying and looking to buy my first. What would you recomend for around £150 pounds uk for beginner? I have been looking at the xk k110s and the eachine e120s and e160. But also considering e130s or xk k200 to possibly start with incase k110 or e120s/160 to advanced for me to start with. God help me pls, i am so confused.....😊 and your help and advice would be most appreciated 😊

I was offered the e130 to review, but declined it as the controller looked horrible, and it looked very basic in terms of performance. Whilst beginner friendly, it doesn't give much room for you to grow. I'm not expert on Helis (as can be seen with the amount of crashes!) but a proper heli flying friend of mine tells me that OMP make the best and most stable of all. The M1 being this sort of sized one - although you will need your own radio and be able to set that up. I got the XK 110s as I had a lot of feedback in comments that this was a tough and not too hard little heli to start with. If you look at the first video I made where I fly in Gyro mode - it's pretty easy. But if it's your first time flying anything, then there's specific ways of starting and keeping very much tail in to begin with before you start on flying circuits and stuff. Also play on sims and build up that muscle memory.

Make it FPV. I think it's easier to fly. I prefer to fly with goggles.
@CurryKitten

Me too - but that would be too easy. The challenge here is to learn to fly it "properly"

No it can't. It's made of some kind of powdery plastic that's utter garbage! Sorry to disappoint those who wanted a heli under $100 like me, but $100 in the trash is not better than $50 for a sim or $350 for an M2 or S2.
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten Год назад
Seems fine to me - it takes a crash pretty well IMO
@ParagPandit

@@CurryKitten Other parts may take some beating but the weakest link are the tiny < 1mm thick plastic parts that break too easily and then it's repair time which is not easy if you have to remove 10 other parts to replace 1. Good luck putting it back together. As for the time spent, you're better off throwing it in the trash and buying a new one or different one.
