Thank you for using your platform, to promote kiteboarding. This video will hopefully go a long way with getting other wakeboarders into kiting. We do the same thing as in the Bahamas @BahamasKiteandSurf so if you ever want to take one more flight from Florida to the Bahamas we will hook up another few kiteboard lesson in some water waters bro!
ohhh Christopher, that sounds like the dream. I'm seriously thinking of maybe going on a kiting trip, I dunno if I'll be bale to this year, but it's tempting
I taught myself, only did a short session on setting a kite up and how to recover it should it land on the water. If I had an instructor I would have used one but non to be found, locally, at the time. I was so envious watching kiters while I was on holiday. I dont envy much in this world, but kitesurfing really got me intrigued. Took ages, if not weeks of trying to ride. Then one evening as the board was about to round up into the wind for the millionth time I just swung my hip and the board suddenly shot downwind....something in my mind finally 'clicked' :) I never lost patience, but was concerned I would never crack the code. 7 years on and still loving every minute of it. So sad when people give up trying to learn, they are missing out on one of the best activitys you can do.
Love this!! Im kite instructor and been watching your vids for a while. Great to see you try it, you picked it up super fast. (its all in the instruction xD) keep doing what your doing man much love
Dude that was awesome ! I came from a wake boarding background and also nailed the 3 hour challenge here! Honestly I'm kiting more than wake boarding now..really is addictive! Word of advice from another wake boarder is to kite with boots.. if it's what you're used to then why change it. We were kiting yesterday in 35 knots and having boots was such a dream !
Michael, unreal, and thank you for the advice, I'll definitely get into that, but first I want to get more control of the kite, nut I love the sound of that :)
Agreed, once you're riding upwind comfortably and kite control is on point then you could probably just ride your normal wake board to be honest, might have a little too much rocker but see how it goes
wooot just happened at minute 7:50 :D the guy just pumped the kite , jumped on the board and rode away like it was nothing . Mate I drank half the ocean trying to water start, I can only dream of reaching that level .
If you’re already a kiteboarder (esp a good one) you have a MASSIVE head start vs the rest of us… you can focus just on the kite instead of the kite + tides/board etc. They still did well… but yeah…
Its awesome to see you expand your love for water sports and you are just an amazing athlete. Are you gonna think about snowboarding videos or doing something along the line of that I think it would be cool to see you take your skills of wakeboarding to the snow and watch you shred some pow too
Ahh I see but if you do get that opportunity it would probably make a real good video just to see you expand past water sport onto something on land and showcase more skills that you have. Keep up the videos though I love them
David O'Caoimh Cool! Im have been kiting and wakeboarding for a few years now too! It's so fun but the flying aspect that you will get with mitesurfing Is just amazing.. you'll know what I'm talking about when you're doing your first jumps! Have fun and a good time kiting :)
You're positivity makes for good watching! I haven't been on a wakeboard in ages, and am hoping to get behind a kite for the first time this summer. Thanks for the hope!
Thank you for this super-inspiring video. I am 52 years old and plan on taking up kite boarding on Lake Michigan this Spring. Wish this old-timer luck! 😁
Not yet. 😥 I'm an epileptic in a Rehabilitation Center. I will have to wait until I get out. Maybe I will start this autumn more likely next spring. Summers are quite short, here in Chicagoland.
No. I did NOT start yet. While there is NOTHING wrong with me, it has been a struggle to make the transition to "Independent Living." I HAVE been in contact with "Kiteboard Mike" @ WINDY CITY KITE SPORTS. He will sell me my initial gear, I need EVERYTHING. Then, hopefully, I will join them on a trip to South Padre Island for lessons. Once I have a wet suit, and know how to fly, I will be at the "local ponds" of Wolf Lake in Whiting, IN & Lake Michigan's Montrose Beach in Chicago! @@christianolson786
Maybe, you can do something in 3 hours in kite boarding. Yeah !. Just think about it !. It's impossible !!!!!!. This took me years to just ride across the street of my house at the beach, and still learning for the past 15 years !!!!!!! . It's amazing, awesome sport, the most technicall I ever did, the most difficult, the most dangerous, the one that took me hours of learning, watching videos, practicing, ETC. Maybe, 0.001% of people can do something in 3 hours about KITESURF. The other 99,9999% will took months and years and maybe never ever get to ride it because of the difficulty. And, that's my friends, it my point of view. Love !. Pablo, from Argentina !. Mar del Plata !!!!!!!
Living in Taiwan, I found an "instructor". Two lessons. In dangerous milk fish pond that hat rocks, wooden, nailed road markers, etc from before... Nightmare. Gear broke in both sessions. He swore off land training and time on trainer kite. He never talked about death loop, but it happened when the gusts hit 25+ knots, no joke. I wish I was here instead. I have been scared to go now for 2 fucking years.
That looks sick!! I have one request if you could do a small video if you ever get a free day on like what makes a Moab a moab and what the difference between a tantrum n a backroll and Whirley bird and just like what the different types of tricks are for some of us beginner wakeboarders. Thanks n keep up the awesome videos.
First thing you should *always* teach someone to dry run on the LEI kite is self-rescue, not just board riding. They will thank you after living through their first kitemare when they can safely roll up the lines and reach the kite to swim it in to kite another day.
I learned kiting this past spring break. It was so sick! My first day I had to share the 3 hour lesson with a friend. But the second day was sick, still on short lines, but sick. The wind died hard after an hour, but still got some jumps in and an in air turn in. For you wakeboarders out there, once you learn the kite, you'll fly through basic tricks.
welcome on board David ! nice to see wakeboarders opening to kiteboarding. Sorry but my tutorials are mostly french, it won't help u much... greatings from Brittany France !
sweet ! if you are training in the philippines this winter i'll be making a kitecoaching camp on the island of Negros between the 6th and the 27th of Jan. u are welcomed to pass by and use some of my gear and catch some good tips ;)
Riding wakeboard for 5 years now, and I really love it (both cableparks and boats). Started kiteboarding in December 2019. Kiteboarding is just amazing. My personal motivation to try it was more freedom of movement (which kite is suppose to give the rider in comparison to boat, not to mention cablepark). But here is an interesting story: While I was in Egypt in December 2019 (where I learned the basics of kiteboarding), there were 60-70% days without wind. I was riding at local cablepark on those non-windy days. Of course, talked with other people over there... while I was complaining about lack of wind, some people were laughing and told me: this is why we switched from kitesurfing to wakeboarding, we had enough alco-kiting in our lives (no wind - you drink at the bar while waiting for it). Hopefully, you are enjoying both worlds :)
I'm just seeing this video half a year after it was posted. Amazing! Are you still kiting by now? I'm a kiter myself and what I personally think is one of the biggest differences between kiting and wakeboarding is where the pull comes from. With wakeboarding it's transferred to the board via the arms where with kiting it's via the waist. That gives a bit more freedom. The reason I prefer kiting over wakeboarding (though I definitely love wakeboarding) is the freedom you get. Not only with the pull but also with other things. Fx you are the one that decides where the kite is when you do tricks. Depending on where the kite is, it can make it easier to learn new tricks but it can also make it harder to do them if you need some challenge. Also you can jump extremely high and do boardoffs etc. Personally I'm not at that stage yet (I'm experimenting with the Frontroll) but it is possible. You might wonder why I've written all this. It's because I want you to know that you should continue kiting! Of course you shouldn't stop wakeboarding but you won't regret if you continue with kiting!
I can't wait to try this... I have a friend that used to coach so I have the perfect set up. He also told me its much easier on your muscles so you can ride much longer then wakeboarding. ... this is good for us old dudes.
For the past few days I’ve been looking at your compilation videos and they are sick dude you have been crushing it I can’t stress it enough you are seriously my motivation for learning new trick man.
