I am born and raised in West LA ,and I can attest that our Mayor has single handedly destroyed the integrity and character of this city. The sidewalks have been hijacked by criminals and drug addicts. Crime rates are through the roof. The return for our high taxes is poor quality of life. Garcetti needs to go.
Thank you for pointing out drug addiction, it seems it is a front for much of the overall "homelessness". Even trafficking and prostitution. I had to leave the neighborhood I grew up in because all families around me were manufacturing drugs and playing out to be poor immigrants driving tons of luxury cars. Tons of fumes and heavy gross polluters and no help
I moved to Phoenix at the start of the pandemic...May 2020. Best decision ever. Hottest summer in the history here, but I survived and it truly wasnt that bad. Visited family in Cali in August and then recently this past December, very depressing seeing my childhood restaurants and stores closed down...
I know exactly what you mean I was helping a friend do some moving out the Yuma last year during the summer it's ridiculously hot but for the price it's a lot better just get a good air conditioner system in your house
I just posted above, I live in S. Utah about 1 mile from AZ and they number of people from CA coming is crazy. I am from MA and moved to S. Utah because my mom retired here and started to have memory issues. It was so easy to find a job, nice weather (same as Phoenix) , nice people and safe schools. I am suppose to go back to MA this summer and I kind of do not want to go now.
What? You don't like paying more than $3K a year in prop taxes for a dumpy condo? That’s what I pay and it’s ridiculous. The whole city is a slum unless you have real money. I’m dying to get out - but where?
@@AFaceintheCrowd01 I wasn’t in a condo, but a nice 4 bedroom, 3 bath, 2 car garage home in beautiful Calabasas, Ca. But I was paying $1,180.00 a MONTH in just property taxes. I grew up in Southern California and it used to be beautiful back then but times change what can I say in my father was literally chased out of his home in a middle-class neighborhood in a town called Bell Gardens just south of Los Angeles and I say chased out because he was burglarized constantly I mean he would go up to the grocery store for a half hour and come back and find his home burglarized yet again people would sit on his front lawn and party and leave all kinds of refuse and they would actually go on the side of his house and go to the bathroom right in front of him and my stepmother so yes they were chased out of Los Angeles by the scum and they wound up in Arizona and I wound up in New Mexico and let me tell you there's a hell of a lot more Elbow Room out here and nobody hassles you
I grew up (until age 10) in nearby Lynwood. It was a wonderful little town where everyone knew everyone. Then criminals moved in from Compton and the city became a sh**hole. That was in the early 70s. Fortunately, after about 10 years, that element mostly moved out and another (more favorable) minority is now the majority. It's so sad that a really nice area (all cities around Lynwood, Huntington Park, etc.) were so nice... but are now slums. Gee... I wonder what happened. Could it be influx of people from certain ethnic groups which caused the demise? We moved to Orange County in 1972 where we still reside. Thank GOD the Orange Curtain is pretty strong... but I don't know for how long.
Yes sir, Your right spot on about that. I see it everywhere and so sorry your parents had to go through that hell man. I'm also packing up and heading to Arizona. I've been there countless times and I see the big difference there and they have a great Governor there and they do care about the Americans which makes it feel like home. Its out of control here and also Venice Beach is getting like skid row too. So sad . Ill move away until they get things better here but until then, I wont wait and dream here wasting my life away on the poor quality of life here. I did sign to get the Governor out of here but it will take a good 4-8 years to get California back to where it was at when it was the Golden State. Great video and detailed info on here bro
I saw the same sad thing happen in the a.v.. it went from a beautiful safe open space to raise a family in the 50s into a dirty gang infested war zone by the early 90s . Unchecked sprawl, corruption and bad planning all played a part in creating the mess that is california. If owens valley and other victims of l. The l.a. water grabs could take back their water so l.a. must exist according to it's own local resources things would be better for the whole state. . A community should grow according to the sustainability and quality of life, given by local production and availability of essential natural resources. We need farms, industry,. and small communities, not open borders, crime , poverty, gridlock and sprawl. We need to get our house in order before we open the doors to unlimited uninvited guests! When our neighborhoods are free from crime, resource scarcity and poverty we will be able to accommodate others wishing to relocate.

I worked in LA for thirty years and left. L A was I repeat a beautiful city with thriving business's, restaurants, hotels, and bars. Tourists came from all over the world to experience LA and the beaches. The government shut down everything and people have to leave. If you lose your job how do you pay for rent and groceries. Yes there were people that were homeless but not the numbers you have now. What is going to bring LA back to its former glory? I do not know because I will be long gone. Thanks for the memories.
Haha I moved out of Cali 2 yrs ago to Texas, thought grass was greener. NOPE. Returned to Cali and happier because less people now. Oh, love the weather here! Win - Win!
L.A. is a 'Tale of Two Cities'. When I grew up there in the 60's-70's, it was 'the best of times', now it's 'the worst of times'! And, reality is, the decay has been happening for decades. The freeway culture of So. Cal. created an 'out of sight, out of mind' attitude as people commuted at 65 MPH, never seeing what was happening on either side ... the decay of suburb after suburb, city neighborhoods falling. No on paid attention to the decaying stucco, the graffiti, bars on windows/store fronts, shopping carts everywhere, trash, deteriorating streets and sidewalks ... all the signs had been there for years. People just chose to ignore it all for their fancy cars, swimming pools, and trying to out-do their neighbors in status, trends, etc.! And, now they wonder why their State, and their cities have become sub-3rd world 'holes'!!!!!
To compare the 60s California to 2021 California is just crazy the world has changed since then in case you haven't noticed women where just starting to enter the work foce segregation was still going on! Thank god where not living through those times now the world only looked great if you where white period so many challenges and forget about it if you where a gay person back then life was only good for some not for all!!
Yes, unbearably bad, and mentally and physically injurious to many of us already established citizens seeking an honest lifestyle. TV and news is very one-sided. Doesn't help.
Yes, my parents immigrated, legally back then, in the 60's, we were an honest working class. My father was Mexican and loved the American way of life, so did we, now all we see are gangs and cartels with no ethical upbringing, so sad

Sales tax in Santa Monica is 10.25%. I don't know why anyone would buy a car from all the dealerships on SM Blvd. I remember ordering a pizza and thinking.. "How is it $28??.. Oh $3 just in sales tax.."
Have been here more than 30 years, family is also here and will never leave for whatever reason. Bought house when prices where relatively reasonable almost 30 years ago and now retired.
Sad part is all of them are moving to either Nevada , Arizona , or Texas. Property here in Vegas are overpriced due to people keep moving here. Rent has gone up 6.4% for the past year. Traffic and crime have gone up also.
I want to thank you for your EXCELLENT reporting! Being an LA native, I hate what it's become. And the worsening has intensified, because of the lack of strength in the economy BEFORE Covid. Our state attracts THE most dysfunctional people from all over the world, and there is no infrastructure or containment of it. So those who can still walk off....they will. And the most burdensome people are the only ones who stay. And our state and local gov't, decades in their offices, are privileged people who don't have to deal with it, whatsoever. And clearly, don't want to. While looking for their next promotion to another office, they aren't worth what they get paid NOW! Thanks again. And you had me at dimples!
Brings back memories of all those sci-fi movies from the 70s, 80s, and 90s where California was not only a hell hole but one that was also largely abandoned.
I have memories of LA during the 70s and '80s. Population LA county 3 million. The music scene was the best in history. The roxy, the whiskey a go-go, the troubadour.every musician alive came to California. Historically epic!!!! Having 40 million people move to California it was not a good thing

The question that many people have is why did the local authorities allow homeless people to set up tents all over the city including along the boardwalks and paths next to the beaches. I fully support providing resources to homeless people. However, tourism is a major economic driver. LA and the surrounding regions appear to have thrown in the towel completely. The tourism and business revenue is needed to help address the homeless related challenges. All I can see right now is a death spiral. Comments?

I see alot of California plates in Chicago. 1 br apartments are $1,200 in downtown. Hustle and bustle, everything in walking distance. But if you still want your car. Gas is only $2.85. The average home price is 200k but you can find a nice condo in a high rise I've found some 1br condos go for as low as $70k in nice neighborhoods near the lake. The median monthly salary is about the same in both cities. Some rents as low as $700 if you look. I've found a couple nice apartments in nice urban neighborhoods on the North Side for that low
@@galaxyride4944 There's some in the South Loop, Downtown, Near North Side, In the North side there's Lincoln Park, Lake View, (Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhoods are more expensive but it's possible to find a good deal check apartments dot com), Wicker Park, Edgewater, Buena Park, Bucktown, East Humboldt Park, Rogers Park, Logan Square, all the North Side basically, the only one that's kind of sketch is Uptown. That neighborhood is very diverse, alot of hustle and bustle but some projects in that neighborhood make it less safe than all the neighborhoods i just mentioned. If you want more quiet and suburban life, the far Northwest Side has those. Large homes with drive ways in quiet tree lined streets. Most homes there go from around $140k-300k. The $70k condos are usually found closer to the lake around the Edgewater area (far north side). It's a busy area, street parking is usually hard to find. Some buildings have their own parking garage but that would depend on the building. Areas you should absolutely avoid, in the West Side, Austin, Garfield Park. In the South Side, Englewood, Auburn Gresham, and Grand Crossing. 99 percent of violence you read about in Chicago comes from those 5 neighborhoods
@@xazimir4266 My guide is for Angelenos that are struggling to keep up with LA's high cost of living. People who have a job but are falling behind and don't want to end up in a tent. Most people would put up with 3 months of cold in a home that has heat instead of 12 months of having no running water and nowhere to take shower. People who still want the big city life and don't want to move to Nevada or Arizona
@Phil Agcaoili painting the whole city of Chicago with the brush of shooting numbers is not accurate. It's like me saying that all of California is tent cities, poop on the ground, and bad air quality. Is there truth to it being a problem that needs to be solved? YES.... but is it everywhere in Chicago? No. I'm not trying to downplay the violent crime on the south and west side of the city because it is a crisis and needs to be fixed, but know that the city of Chicago is enormous and that violent crime is often concentrated in a few communities. Chicago is unfortunately an extremely segregated city by race and income, none of the neighborhoods he mentioned have violent crime issues any worse than any other city.
Great video and I totally agree. Grew up in San Francisco and after 35 years. I moved to Louisiana why because the cost of living. My family and I were living in a one bed room back in the 90's. I live in rural Utah, and people from S. CA are pouring in. Everything from business relocating to unskilled workers. My kids come home from school and every week, there are new kids and almost all are from S. CA. The mass influx of people is creating an much different situation. People think rural Utah (the southern part, so warm weather) has plenty of vacant land. While it does, the vast majority is protected and unable to be used. So now housing is impossible to find. Before COVID a 1 bedroom was $400-500, now it is $1200 +(if you can find one, which again is near impossible), all 3 of the homes around me sold to people from CA, the houses were in the 200's pre-covid and now are going for 700k+. Jobs are easy to find because there is a frantic effort to build more housing and more retail and more business space, so people who were working entry level retail, landscaping, fast food, are being trained in construction . Some fast food and retail can;t find employees even at $15-20 to start so they have to close early or have limited hours. COVID sure has changed every area but in different ways. It is not just rural Utah, I know MT, WY, parts of CO, and ID are all experincing some of the same issues, people moving in , and shortages of housing and services. When this is over, I think people need to look at the numbers and see what worked and what failed. I am not from Utah originally . I am from MA, and my home area, is alot like LA, my favorite places closed forever, so many houses will be in foreclosure once the time expires for protection, I feel so sad like I can't go home. My area of Utah was totally open, open schools (and the district had 35k kids so not small) open business, life was totally normally except seniors stayed in (easier since most live in 55 and older areas). There was a very low death rate but high infection rate in the young. No one under 50 died in our 5 county region (which is as big as Hartford CT and just as diverse , people think Utah is all one race, but we are a multi race family and we are sure not the only ones!). So researchers need to find out why the death rate was low? and everything stayed open, because I do not think it will be another 100 years till the next virus. We need to focus on what worked or what was the factors, like weather, elevation etc. I hope LA recovers, it is spring break in Utah and it used to mean a families going to CA for the week, this year it was FL. I was shocked, the flights were full going to FL. I just worry that as business and workforce leave CA, will they come back? The Ca residents that have moved where I live from the guy working the fast food drive thru to the guy moving his tech company here, say they love it, they are so happy their kids are getting an education in person , they are happy to be working and productive, they are just happy for some basic freedoms.
@@mjsmith5110 I am in ST George, I always say it is the cold version of Logan. The only reason I think it is slightly worse here, (foregtting about COVID) is the lack of medical care. At least Logan is much closer to Ogden and SLC for care. My child had a seizure and there are no doctors in St George to handle it so it is drive to SLC 315 miles. I can see how housing and people moving in and having a growing college, those issues are very similar just different weather. How bad has crime gotten in Logan? Violent crime is on the rise in S. Utah, it had been years between murders, then at least 8 last year.

Less than 300 for a 5yr old mitsubishi mirage, $105 for full coverage insurance, $27 fill up per wk.
