Purchase this laser engraver direct from Creality here. My viewers get $30 off (use code "FAL30")

Of course, you can also purchase on Amazon:

A quick review of this laser engraver/cutter. My honest opinion: it's a going to be a great addition to my workbench. I have so many ideas. . . . not just for leather, but also for my scale models. Yes, these weighted coasters may be an example of making something simple complicated, but that's sorta the point, right? Make sure to watch to the end!
Disclosure: Creality sent me this laser for free in exchange for this video. However, you're sure to see more of this machine in the future.

People, especially the old timers, really underestimate the usefulness of even a smaller laser like this in leather craft. I've had mine for almost a year and I cut nearly everything on it now, mind you mine is a 60W CO2 laser with a 20x28 working area, but even something like this creality is great for cutting and personalizing. I've increased my production at least 5 fold by getting a laser. Are they perfect, no, but they are phenomenal. For me it has been a cricket press killer.

@terrynoles8539
@terrynoles8539 Год назад
A couple of quick tips for you to help you get the most out of your laser with leather.. .First, wet the leather...not damp, like casing for tooling...WET it. It will cut and engrave better, without burning as much on the edges. It also make a whole lot less smoke and stink. Second, ONLY use air assist with cutting. Turn it off for engraving. You'll get MUCH cleaner results. I enjoy your videos, and am not downing your work, by any means. These are just a couple of things I have learned, when cutting patterns on my laser.

I was looking for a laser cutting machine especially for leather work (cutting and engraving keychain, for now i do all the work by hand and don't have any cutting die) Since you had this creality, did you use it a lot ? Would you say 10W is enough to work with leather ?

I've been using it to cut the heavy leather I use for holsters and other bits. You'll see it in the videos I've posted since this one. It takes a few passes, but definitely works. That being said, I've been sent the newest model; the "Falcon 2". It's a 20W. I'll be comparing the two in an upcoming video. Make sure to subscribe to get the notification when it drops!

Not that it matters either way with a coaster, but why did you decide this time not to channel out the leather for the stitching like you normally do on holsters?
@RoadAgentLeather
@RoadAgentLeather Год назад
This leather is pretty thin. Plus, I didn't really see the need for a stitch groove, which I often use more as a guide to keep the stitches straight, since I was using the sewing machine's edge guide to pre-punch the holes.

for a 10W diode, I'd start at around 20% power and maybe 200 mm/s. Test on scrap and see where you need to go from there. It all depends on your material and how deep of an engraving you want.

Did a nice on your logo but a little slow on the holster cut out. I wonder if you can do it in reverse where the leather is black and your logo is leather color 🤔
@RoadAgentLeather
@RoadAgentLeather Год назад
The holster leather was 9 oz, much thicker than the coasters 2 oz. It was my version of a torture test. I slowed it down to 120mm/min to get the laser to cut through it in one pass. But as mentioned, next time I'll actually double the speed and just make multiple passes. Yeah, there's absolutely no reason you couldn't reverse the image. There's really a lot I can do with it.
