I normally start with coarser diamond when touching up more wear resistant steels and use .5 micron right after sharpening, can send you some 1mic or 3mic for the other side if you like just lmk. The spray is quite concentrated and as you can see it really removes steels if you apply more then 1-2 sprays, you can take a regular old large pink eraser to clean and reapply when needed. Some people really like to load it on however I normally find that a couple sprays (very light dusting) is just enough to clean up the edge after I'm finished on the last stone and it won't load as often so you can use it's dozens of times before cleaning/reloading with spray. Just play around with it a bit and see what works best for you, when stropping on a substrate like leather that has give I use the very lightest of pressure. Hope you get lots of use out of it. 🙂

Yeah, I definitely will be experimenting and playing around with this. It’s like a new toy. Lol I’ll try after fresh sharpening next and go from there. This is a whole new canna worms for me.

@@AaronJohnson1979 Yeah that's kinda the fun of it all, experimenting. The 0.5 is around 50K grit so it's pretty fine, if an edge has been used a bit a slightly coarser grit followed by 0.5 or 1 mic spray will usually bring an edge back fairly well while the 0.5 alone may not. And as you know once an edge reaches a certain point it'll need to be taken to a stone.

@@NORTHWESTKNIFEGUY absolutely I’m going to try a knife fresh off the stone next lol but I thought 0.5 a good job these knives that were in this video were probably in need of a stone and the 52100 came back hair shaven sharp, but it did bring back performance on all of them.

I was going to say the same thing. I use 3 micron first. Sometimes I just stop at 3 micron and the knife is plenty sharp.

Nice..just recently got a HR-150A Rockwell hardness tester for the home workshop..if you need to know the HRC of something I'd be happy to test it for you..those Japanese scratch files have a 5 point spread Vs a 0.5 resolution of the HRC tester.. a quick and dirty method is the glass bottle score test..if a 90° spine / corner can score a glass bottle with some heavy handed use then its HRC60 to HRC61 or higher..the file skate test is affected by the oxidation layer..Cheers..

@@AaronJohnson1979 two other topics worth mentioning #1 is some places will sell you LN2 without a Dewar if you have the old school metal thermos with a 1/4 to 1/2 inch hole drilled in the cap / lid..super important for safety as it expands 700 times the size of it in liquid form..I'd call and check 1st as each vendor is different but you may not need to buy a Dewar to try it cryogenic treatment.. #2 several places sell open box / damaged in shipping equipment like the hardness tester I just got for $700 with 2 tiny scuffs on it..because they get shipped with temporary blocking to protect the mechanism in shipping that most companies don't know/ understand so they list them as non operational.. well the company I got mine from has several around $600 currently in different states of damage that are " non operational " for parts only etc..they just need the internal blocking removed..the companies try to test them and get bad readings on the test plates and figure they are broken etc.. if you had any interest message me back and I will leave the name of the place..if not I'm not trying to ruin it for the next guy by letting the cat out of the bag..lol basically got a slightly scuffed up tester for $850 discount off msrp..Cheers..
