The one is the dedicated lanyard loop the other one is detachable for emergency and not a secret when you read the manual or the feature list of leatherman
Scissors also work as a scratch awl and leather cutter If you just leave straight out. Big flat head screw driver also works as a pry bar for small tasks like opening paint cans. Eyeglass screw driver also works as a SIM card remover.
I work at a place that does metal injection molding and sometimes I use the 75 ton coining press to coin the scales for these. Pretty darn cool to see how the thousands upon thousands of parts I’ve handled will end up. I kinda want to get one
Hey! I carry the Charge TTi as well and like most things about it. Think my scissors perform slightly better than yours, even though they're far inferior to my SAKs ones. Personally the "bit kit" has saved me on several occasions. Actually found a special square bit that I needed when I hung wallpaper and needed to remove the floor molding.. Didn't even know that kind of screw existed... Also great when I do stuff that requires two sets of small bits, like servicing a folding knife. To me the con of potentially losing a bit and have to replace it is totally worth the pro! I knew about the hidden "lanyard" and regard it as such. Don't like the big bolt on one but I guess that's convenient if you carry a beefy lanyard at certain times. Like maybe for carrying a ferrorod or something that's nice being able to detach and work with. Or even keys..?
My scissors cut paper nicely, small things like string or hair it doesn't cut at all. I really like the bit kit too. I broke my micro screwdriver bit, and don't want to pay the money for a new one. 😂 I really need to though, it is a very needed elelement of the knife. I guess most of my viewers knew about the hidden lanyard ring... 🙄 Oh well.
If I am going out I my kayak I'll use both. I'll clip it in my pocket and then have a lanyard attached to a belt loop so I don't lose my 100 dollar knife in a lake
Are you worried about knife blade opening while using pocket clip? This can cause a serious cut. I think the pocket clip should have been somehow on the other end
yep that is a lanyard loop Tie a bit of ribbon or leather or paracord and use the pocket clip as well that way you have something easy to grab it with if you do just stuff it in your pocket or something easy to see if it falls out of your pocket. Then you can use the removable one if you want to have your keys or something on there that you want to be able to remove when you use the tool. It is just nice to have the option.
I can confirm it is a lanyard loop and it ain't no secret lol, nice video and to be honest you can't really go wrong with any Leatherman, the hard part is choosing which one suits your needs the best.. 👍👍
I do prefer the pouch belt carry, but I have the nylon pouch. Much more comfortable and functional. The leather one is no good for me. The bits are a pro in my book, but frequent changes of the bits can get annoying depending on your needs. For my needs this is a good choice and quality item.
hey, I actually tied orange paracord on the lanyard as I have dropped my leatherman in the tall weeds and grass and tough time finding it. once I put the orange paracord, easier to see and find.
How in the world would a swapable bit holder be a con? Having a dedicated Phillips AND a flathead physically takes up so much more space. It’s literally the biggest issue with the FREE series, the fact that they DONT have the bit swapper.
This review is for a slightly older tool. I have a new Charge + TTI and the scissors are sharp an tight. I can cut small things like thread. The leather case he shows is not what the new tools come with. So his "cons" are all outdated.
A great hidden hack is you can fit the removable lanyard clip in the place of the hidden one. Just remove the hidden one. Then you can have both the clip and a handy removable lanyard
The hidden lanyard loop is dedicated. The one you can replace with a clip is a quick release, so you can hang your multitool on stuff that isn't pockets or a belt. Leather man has a new bit holder which can hold hex bits and it has a ratchet function which is such a pro!
The diamond file is amazing at sharpening other blades. 1 of the huge reasons I love the surge is you can remove it to sharpen the blade on the very same tool. Also the lanyard loop is not a secret. It shows it on the instructions that come with all Leatherman's. They offer a bigger version lanyard loop if you need it because the dedicated 1 doesn't pop up as much👍
It is a hidden lanyard loop. I have an OG Charge TTi and removed it. That made it so the accessory loop with lanyard and the clip fit in. I EDC a modded Wave + and removed that too. Tweezers from a Squirt fit in like thy belong there.
I carry (carried) a Victorinox Cybertool M in my EDC Pouch. I say "carried" because I recently took it apart for a custom build. 🤣 Now I carry an Alox Pioneer X. But, I really miss the Bit driver from the Cybertool. I will replace it some day soon.
Just bought the Charge TTi and love this little hidden feature. Was using the pocket clip and looped a cord around it to pull out the tool from the sheath a little easier.
@@allanjonalisidro7007 I haven't expanded into the Leatherman mods that much yet. Mostly I specialize in SAK mods. But I would like to venture into the Leatherman mods too.
I found that same thing when I removed and anodized my scales. I think it’s actually a detent for the sawblade. Not sure why it would slide tho? If you look it forces the saw blade over slightly and possibly keeps it from opening easily??? I dunno
Sorry, a quick question if I may: I've been cleaning out an old Charge, and found that the loop is beveled in the opposite way as the loop in the Wave I was also cleaning. The Charge is stamped for 2005 feb., the Wave is around that same time too if I remember correctly. So the part where the loop meets with the saw blade, one of them has it ground in an angle in the direction of the outside of the handle, the other has it opposite. How does it look like in your tool? I'm interested in everyone's answers, I just find it weird..
@@FittoSurvive Dammit RU-vid lost my comment, I'll try to recreate it... So that's weird, because on my 0707 Wave it's the same, but on the 0205 Charge the bevel is on the bottom. It should be on the top so the saw blade doesn't get stuck on it that easily, right? I think I'll go and ask the wise elders in the Charge owners club on the multitool forums, they might know something about what kind of mutant version is this: * the bevel is on the other side * both ends of the double sided screwdriver bit are phillips drivers * it looks like the old Charge TI but this one for sure doesn't contain titanium This is a weird one... Many thanks for the info and the quick reply 👍
You must have got a dud pair of scissors, both the ones on my old surge, and on my TTI work just fine for even the smallest threads, I’ve always been impressed with tiny scissors on those things. The bit driver is definitely a pro! I wouldn’t buy a Leatherman without it. Pretty sure that is a lanyard ring, I found mine a few years ago, it’s a good little feature.
I love the bits because it enables one to switch from flathead to Phillips very easily. When your unsure about what kind of screw heads your going to encounter this works really well. No running back to get another type of screwdriver or for that matter not having to reflip out another option on the tool itself wich takes a little more time to do.
Almost same features with a wave (or wave +) and I was aware of the hidden lanyard ring since day 1. Though I felt the urge to purchase extra clip and ring separately. I only use it with the clip.
I have had my charge for at least 10 years. I’m a bushcrafter and electrician. I didn’t know about the wire stripper 🤦🏻 Back to the scissors If you turn them around so they are at the top and use your thumb to operate I’m sure you will see a difference. Let me know dude 👍🏻
It is a dedicated lanyard loop. I have the first edition from early 2008, and it is on it as well. My scissors on this one are very tight and razor sharp, used it for hairs before. That's a bummer if the new ones aren't. I agree with the hacksaw. I used it to cut maybe 10 bolts or parts over the years, and the teeth are pretty much gone. All around it is an awesome tool.
@@FittoSurvive That's good, these are pretty precise. Yes, I had a pre-order in for the first one out at a friend's shop. They did change a lot of the looks of it, but tools look the same. Here in PA I've carried it in all temperatures outside too, never an issue with surface rust or anything from sweat. I carried other tools and knives that would.
@@FittoSurvive also that mini lanyard loop fits a medium size McGizmo clip or a small NiteIze carabiner too. That's what I use, then can unclip it quickly if it's in the way.
Correction on the scissors . The Leatherman Surge scissors blow out any other multi tool scissors including Victorinox. The wave and charge have decent scissors but uea Leatherman should put the Surge scissors on every multi tool
Not going to lie, it’s not a secret, but keep up the great work bud 😂😂😂😂 Agreed across the board about the titanium charge. Done a great job over the year or so I’ve been using it.
When I got mine I could barely open the blades one handed, it took me replacing my thumb multiple times. It was super hard to open, I sent it in, it had quite a few other issues out of the box aswell. Maybe my hands just weren't good enough.
@@FittoSurvive yeah, it was an anniversary gift from my girlfriend and has special engravings on it. So I'm hoping they can actually fix it and send it back with those scales. I didn't mention this in my original comment, but it's stupid how there's another lanyard ring, maybe they forgot about it, or, maybe it's just nice to leave that little ring on your lanyard to snap on when you need it.
Not a design oversight. I can't believe you people see a choice in attachment options as a design flaw. You consider the hidden lanyard loop a "secret"? So obviously it doesn't get in the way. If you want a loop that can't detach accidentally while operating the tool lock. I am sure you will appreciate the built-in loop. If you attach a lanyard that regularly impedes the operation of the tool like some people do. The detachable ring is what you want. The pocket clip is detachable so you don't have a hot spot when using the pliers. It also makes the pocket clip deep carry. Compared to the Leatherman Free series clip. I would prefer that Leatherman keep the "redundant" features. It's something you would complain should be included in the tool if they didn't have it.
@@FittoSurvive ,yes that is awesome,it took me some getting use to the weight of my surge, but once I did,I barely notice it anymore, yes I agree,I want it also to have to be able to switch out for different tasks as well as depending on where I'm going instead of dragging all that weight with me.
I've had my Charge Ti since 2004 when they were released and didn't know about that hidden loop. It's still my favourite multi-tool. I use the side pocket on the case to store a small tungsten multi-sharpener, the handle of which I wrapped with very thin cord to make non-slip.
I think it's a lanyard hole but you can, as you said put a hook on it to tighten up your knots. My father collects leathermans and I think it's on a lot of the bigger models, my memory's not so good anymore so I'm not 100% on which models.
@@thealchemist5376 I will need to gather spare Leatherman parts. For now, I only have Victorinox parts. But, maybe in the near future we could do a mod like that.
@@thealchemist5376 If somebody sent me some Leatherman parts or a donor I would definitely give it a try. Since the scales are titanium I could also anodize them blue. 😏
I always was loosing my knives out of my pockets and never knew which pocket it was in. I have worn my original PST Leathern on my belt since 1993 and as such, have never lost it. I tried to wear my Charge Titanium on my belt with additional bits in the leather case. But I really don’t like how heavy it is. It literally damn near pulls down my pants. So now it pretty much only carry it in a fanny pack or sling pack. I still like it and want it on me just way to heavy.
