i like your perspectives, i also think that its unfair to blame everything on Kylie/ the Kardashians for the beauty standard. Anyone can choose to follow the beauty standards or to not give a shit about it (yes i know its hard for some people to not give in, but we still have a choice, that's my point), a part of me also believe that if you choose to follow the beauty standards, you are also contributing to it in a way, because the more people take part in it, the more "standard"/popular it will be, but most people will blame the bigger people because they are the "source" of it all. That's at least my opinion
I agree with you, I mean, if we all just stopped following trends blindly, instead did our own thing, trends/beauty standards would never become a thing. Sadly, a lot of people give in and also influental people tend to give in even more, thus creating an even more strict beauty standard in general. But the whole "Kylie is collapsing under her own beauty standards" I call bs. It's more than just Kylie.
The thing is, Kylie took great benefit from perpetuating such beauty standards. Being a person with a great media presence, she frequently does this. A great example is her with her Kylie Cosmetics because back in the 2016/17 she had lip fillers and told everyone it was because of her using makeup only-thus, the kylie lip kits-perpetuating the narrative that it was natural how she went from thin lips to full lips with the power of over-lining hers. She took advantage of not only insecurity of some girls, but also capitalizing on such lies she and her family had told everyone at the time. Most people don’t sympathize with her because she seems to not learn the harsh truth that she took part in this problem. We can have two truths around this: in her defense, she is a victim of the harsh beauty standards of today, whilst she is also a perpetrator of it, quite possibly one of the front runners of perpetrating such toxicity.
@@-l-2865 A lot to unpack there. Yes, while she lied about getting lip fillers (which was obvious that she did get them), it is totally understandable. Back then admitting to having such things done was treated differently. You couldn't win, either you were ugly and this/that (and weren't allowed to change anything), or you were fake/plastic (in her situation). So she started changing things and kept the truth about it to herself. I can totally understand the situation. I don't think many people know what it truly feels like being in the spotlight -- and we keep even saying that it was their choice to be in the public eye and they "deserve" to be roasted in every way possible. That is a narrative we need to move away from QUICKLY. This is pop-culture in a nut shell. Nobody's body is up to SUCH scrutiny, just because they are a public figure. Especially not a teenager. I agree, that she played a role in deepening these beauty standards, but she wasn't the ONE who started it. It's us, humans. We did it. She just happens to be more focused on because of her brand.
