For years afterward, the deer would say to each other, “Remember that time we found that big ass pile of food in the middle of the forest?” “ yeah”……..” that was great…….” “ yeah.”
... And then they all squabble over what's there to eat. Announcing food preserves their species, fighting over what's available ensures the fitest survive.

I’m in the uk , I live near a forest ,, every morning walking my dog I whistle and put food out and the crows always come , also in the evening I put carrots and other veg out for the deer and feed the fox’s some will even be brave enough to take food from my hand, I love it, I couldn’t stop now as they sit waiting for me every evening at the same time.
If you think they've become too reliant, you could slowly reduce the feed and they will revert to finding their own as they'd always done. But I'm sure it's a joy to connect with your animal friends.

If I had acreage I'd reserve a corner for veggie kitchen scraps, grain and a salt lick. Never enough to be a single food source, but enough to be a diet-balancing treat. I'd also hang birdhouses and seed-bells in random trees and plant shrubs and flowers favoured by bees and hummingbirds. Just the thought of this makes me smile. Thank you. This was a beautiful video.
@@Sheepdog1314and birds will not do so much wild seed gathering and spreading, hummingbirds will pollenate less, migratory birds may not leave and will freeze to death depending on where you live; it's heartbreaking to see. deer will lose their fear of humans and be shot too easily.
I'm concerned about animals eating dry oats. They swell in water. The stomach could expand too much. Grains aren't always good, particularly processed grains. Also, baked, rotisserie or fried chicken is dangerous. Cooked chicken bones are not soft. They are brittle and splinter and can kill animals when they choke on the splinters.
Stop lying if you're a conservation worker you'll know it's not ok to feed wild animals they'll be dependent on humans and the place they congregate will be a prime spot for diseases

I'm inFlorida and had a momma and twins, the momma was lookin real thin so I put out oats and bird seed because I heard (not sure if true) that the corn wasn't the greatest food for thier digestion. The twins are grown and momma only had 1 this year they all come back, for fresh water and the occasional apples and carrots and bird seed. Can't feed alot or else it becomes a killing field for the Bobcat and owls on the squirrels and bunnies. Love my little piece of paradise. Thanks for the video!
We were renovating a late 19th century firehouse and bring back the "old bones" of the structure. If I knocked on the wood slat ceiling of the first floor, old oats would fall out from between the wood slats. Turns out that the second floor was where they stored the grain for the horses.

I put out a pile of oaks for the deer in my area during winter, a 40lb bag, it took almost a week for it to be eaten. I live on a dirt road and several small groups of deer live in the surrounding wooded area. They frequent my yard to feast on the greenery. I enjoy watching these peaceful animals.

At 9 minutes 15 crows arrive, earlier it was just one or two. No other feeders bring their mates! Tells you lots about how social crows are. The CAW CAW cries we are so familiar with are amazingly accompanied by a dipping/bowing behaviour that is mirrored by others in the group. It’s fabulous behaviour that I’ve be er seen before, but now I’ll be imaging it every time I hear that strikingly loud CAWCAW. Mostly though it’s shy, careful delicate deer. Slow TV.. but one needs to remember it’s still massively speeded up by the editing process. Nature is slow slow, so much no show, and then fabulously animated intensity till they go, go, go.. The Outdoor Theatre indeed! FABULOUS! Thank you thank you thank you

It’s so incredibly wonderful you’re providing supplemental feedings especially since every second of the day they’re trying to survive so anything anyone can do to eliminate a food insecurity is so admirable I appreciate it and thank you for sharing the video
Feeding deer in winter can paradoxically create malnutrition -- the deal is that they switch their stomachs over in the winter to be able to eat the bark available, but if you feed them out of season foods they never make the switch, so then they can't get nutrition as well from what's available naturally. I didn't know this until recently, either, but it's a really good reason not to supplemental feed.
@@lotharschoebel2646 Depends. If it prevents a switch to the winter gut biome it can stop the deer from digesting the winter foods available and cause hunger. I won't exaggerate and say that means a bunch of dead deer, but if the point is to make them happy and a little healthy then even periodic winter feeding is counter to that goal. I would assume a half apple once in three months is probably not a problem, but putting out grain in fall even a few times is probably hurting them instead of helping them, and obviously people putting out the grain are doing it because they think it will help.

They are apparently very clever and recognize human faces. I love how they all cawed in unison! In any case, they seem better behaved than seaside seagulls!!
Cute. Have interacted with critters on our farm and woods for decades. Oats are good energy food. Especially in winter but once started don't quit. We never put out grain but leave tall grass boundaries for wintering and God provides the rest.
I lived out in the woods for years, and had a small herd of 5 or 6 does that hung around. I fed them year round, whole corn and/or calf and horse mix. The does often brought their fawns into our front yard while grazing.
Yes, if you feed in winter the deer stay in spring/ summer mode digestively and then if you stop feeding they may not be able to get nutrition from the natural sources.
@@Ryan-zv6xw Deer have a varied diet. In spring they eat old softened acorns, and fresh sprigs of grass. Kicking away dry old leaves. Deer have ancient trekking "roads" through the landscape. Parent deer teach their young, as they move around. Too bad if you've built a flower bed in their way. They'll just eat your tulips and daffodils, and call it lunch...

Love how the crows have a leader, that when he calls they call and do their little dance. Exact same thing happens here in Australia with our crows! Amazing!
The crows behave just like seagulls, going "Mine", "Mine", "Mine" ! 🐦⬛🐦⬛ 🐦⬛🐦⬛🐦⬛ 🐦⬛🐦⬛ I grew up in a Norwegian small town in the 1960's. Our local farmers would feed the roedeer in winter. With loads of hay, and carrots. A family of roedeer, (6 - 8 animals), would sleep on a large rock shelf in our garden. ❄️⛄️🦌🦌🦌❄️ The area was steep, so behind and above them was the pine forest. 🌲🌲🌳🌲🌲🦌🌲🌳🌲 (For a hasty escape, should an enemy appear...) Wich wasn't likely, as we had an angry mallard as well, staying in our garden. (Sleeping in an upturned rowing boat). He'd even chase the odd fox away. 🦊 🦆🦌🦌🦌🦌 🦌🦌🦌 Love from Norway 👩🦳🇧🇻
@@TheOutdoorTheater You bet ! By the way... What sort of deer were they ? I noticed their fluffy tails... No deer like that here. We have elk, moose, roedeer. (Plus reindeer in the north). 🫎🦌🦌🦌🦌🫎 Love from Norway 👩🦳🇧🇻
I could watch this all day.I love seeing all the different animals.Mosthe deer looks so hungry so.Thin it's such a nice thing that you put these out for them
If the deer eats to much of the oats it could kill it. It's body is not ready for that kind of food as it has been just eating browse to make it through winter.
I kind of feel this is messing with the natural order of things and nature in particular. Animal poop carrying these seeds will spread the oats far and wide and what then 🤷🏻♀️

My father spent his last 10 years putting out corn, to feed the deer who came to his front yard, every morning and evening. I've heard that corn is not the best thing for them to eat, but they always came back!
The squirrels chasing each other made me laugh out loud, it was like Saturday morning tv! I have plenty of them in my backyard, and various birds and the occasional bunny!

Thoroughly enjoyed! A while back I suggested you leave out a 20# bag of meow mix. Well those 20# bags went to 18# to 16# and are now at 13.5# so you’d better hurry up and get a bag before they’re empty.
I love feeding the wild animals, people complain about how you shouldn't do it for various (unconvincing) reasons, but they've got it rough. Like with all things, there is a right and a wrong way to do it.
We agree! We always like to give them a boost coming out of the harsh winter months here in Minnesota where we are located where food is scarce in the winter. Thanks for watching!

Those crows! 😆 I live in the U.K. on the edge of some common land. There are hundreds of crows and jackdaws in this area. Every morning at dawn the crows and jackdaws have a ‘committee meeting’ altogether in a bank of tall trees. There is a lot of ‘discussion’, but there is always one crow voice above the rest and one jackdaw voice above the rest. Then after their meeting, all the crows fly off one way and sort of split up as they go (in family groups?) and the jackdaws fly off the other way in the same fashion. I’ve seen this probably hundreds of times by now. It never fails to fascinate me that they do this. I would LOVE to know what they are talking about!!! 😁 Thank you for all you share. 💝 Subbed because this channel is a joy. 😊

My Mom taught me everything is hungry in this world. So every night after dinner, we’d walk the non protein scraps down to the woods with a flashlight. We had a certain spot we left it in. And the next night it was gone. She brought grain and corn by the big bags to feed the critters also. I am thankful she taught me empathy through her love of animals and people. Growing up in MN, critters may have lived through the cold night with food in their bellies. Bless you!

My brother and I used to put out salt blocks, mineral blocks and sulphur blocks. They deer would always come back, sometimes the mamas would bring their fawn's with them. We would sit on the back porch with our coffee and they would always be there everyday. He lives by a lake and has a couple of acres of land. When it was deer hunting season it seems that we saw them more frequently. They always knew that they were safe.
