Hands down favorite movie of all time. I never saw Nicholas Cage in the movie all I saw was Ben Sanderson. And Elizabeth shue has an extremely natural attractive glow about her. Doesn't need makeup just has a very natural prettiness
One of the most depressing movies I’ve ever seen. Having been where he was and surviving with a lovely young blond that convinced me that we are all only doing the best we can in this moment and in this life. Some make it others don’t, that was the lesson of Leaving Las Vegas
Cage absolutely nailed this role. I fell in love with this film when it came out nearly 30 years ago. It’s beautiful. It’s sad. It’s funny. It’s tragic. And just fucking epic.
He literally met with late stage alcoholics to nail the role. Well deserved Oscar for this. Anyone who says Cage is a bad actor, I point to this. He just made some bad financial choices and took every role that came his way.
Sorry for your loss Jason. I know i dont know you or your beautiful wife (I bet you seen her angel wings though) but even though I'm not religious or anything... I live in Dublin and have a huge beautiful church, The Oblates in Inchicore, near me and ill get a candle and light it for her and give YOU a moment Jason. Love is the only force only thing I believe in. She's still here in your heart. Take care mate 👍 ♥ ☀ ✌️ From 🇮🇪
@@TheUnmaker28977 I think he okay. But I'd prefer to say: Most relatable movie of my late 10s: The Basketball Diaries Most relatable movie of my early 20s: Trainspotting Most relatable movie of my late 20s: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Most relatable movie of my early 30s: Leaving Las Vegas
@@ricarleite Why are you watching a clip of a movie about a person with severe alcohol addiction, when you detest people that for various reasons got addicted? And if you think your life is horrific it can be easy to get dependent on alcohol.
"That's nice talk, Ben ― keep drinking. Between the 101-proof breath and the occasional bits of drool, some interesting words come out."― Sera - Leaving Las Vegas
@@lorenzocirillo3405 That's not what he was implying, it's a very popular song, he was saying the film had a great soundtrack, you do realize soundtrack does not necessarily mean made for the movie right?
@@lorenzocirillo3405 Dude you're talkin stupid, for one, you can't get an oscar for a soundtrack, thats not how it works, secondly, he was being facetious.
@@Mrcoconutgun Yeah i understood man, but you still can’t reach the point: i was talking about how easy is to choose and then put a song (already released) as a soundtrack for your film, and not about winning an oscar.
This film holds a special place in my heart. I remember going to Vegas back in 2004 when I was 22 and I thought about this movie and songs a lot. It's definitely sin city. I'm from Manchester UK 🇬🇧
Just goes to show you can make a great movie on a budget of pennies. No fireworks, just good acting, a story that everyone can feel "for not for the grace of God there go I," and just that intangible "something" about this movie that's hard to put your finger on. He kills himself, yet he was probably more "free" in those last days than at any time in his life. Letting go of life can sure feel good.
Great points. It really was also about their love and the bad timing & circumstances. Everyone focuses on alcohol but it was so deep, sad, profound...one of their best💔🌵🍸🎈🎬
I used to work for AMC Theatres from 1990-1997. When this movie premiered it was a full house. I had watched it the day prior and fell in love with their performances. Two imperfect people with flaws and she is the saving angel that wants to save his life from destruction...
The tragic thing about this whole story was that the main character was so chemically addicted to alcohol at the end of the film that straight vodka did nothing to prevent him from going into full blown DT's.
This movie is not about alcoholism. Its about unconditional love. Ben could have been any other self-destructive character, like a heroin junkie, or an AIDS patient. The point is, he was clearly on a downward spiral and still found someone who loved him despite of his imperfections. He was accepted for all the good and the bad that came with him. And that is what makes unconditional love tough.
This movie isn't about alcohol, love, or any other silly tropes. It's about a dude who's fed up with his existential circumstances and decides to take the reigns, even if (or particularly if) that denies him existence itself. It is the ultimate story of self liberation.

When asked if his drinking negatively affected/interfered with his marriage my youngest brother proudly responded, "No, my wife negatively affected/interfered with my drinking." No joke.
How does it come, that this Michael McDonald's song "Lonley Teardrops" hasn't been added as a track into the Original Soundtrack CD? Same as David Bowie's - "Heart's Filthy Lesson" is not included in OST of David Fincher's Se7en/Seven movie. How do the money and agreements go to create such a pointless thing?
@@JimmyBergman7 YES ! Jesus IS a *speck* of god ! But then so are you and I a speck of the Infinite All/God. Though, Jesus had skills and a heightened consciousness during a much different time. Also, Jesus and you and I are NOT the Infinite Godhead. See the *Process Relational Panentheism* diagram to better understand how I describe it. Search Jesus In India (& Tibet etc.) the 18 missing years too.
A great montage using the theme song of Nicholas Cage's only good movie. I mean all his others were just exploitative junk; this was the one time he knocked it out of the park! It gives me nostalgia for the Whole Year Inn (;-p)
Hands down the best of the best, the best actor of his generation in both categories, who in their right minds would put nick cage and lizzy shue Tod ether in an all in total love story, if only Ben hadn’t fallen in love with “liquour first then him and Sara would have had a great chance. Still I dream, the film won’t change, but happily it has never changed emotionally for me , best film of the 90’s period.
Jonathan lee, don’t mind full name, just done a 5 night diazepam stay in hospital 240mg a day I was still shaking, then a few days later it goes, if you have nurses who understand this, compared to quitting opiates is a joke !!! You need hospital for alcohol though people it’s only easier with a benzo !!! Every 90 mins for days !! Seek help, there may be a Sara out there for you x
I respectfully disagree with you friend. I don’t believe it was beautiful in any sense of the word, however, he went out on his own terms. Not many people can say that but I can sure respect one’s desire to make their own choice, painful and heartbreaking as it may be
