The green woodworking course that I attended was held by the Northmen Guild in Latvia! If you haven't seen their youtube channel here it is: www.youtube.com/@northmenguild If you want to do the same course as I did or any other by the Northmen check out this link: northmen.com/en/courses/traditional-joinery-and-green-woodworking/apply-for-a-course For the past three years the Northmen Guild have been working on a unique project, the construction of a historically faithful, timber framed forging workshop to act as a new centre for the Guild’s blacksmiths. Their aim is to create a space where blacksmiths from all corners of the globe will be welcome to practise their craft, share their expertise, and create beautiful and functional works of art. It will also be open to the public to visit as part of the wider woodworking museum and forest park at “Vienkocu Parks, Ligatne." A further aim for the forge is to educate beginners, amateurs and enthusiasts by offering intensive, two to three week long training courses in blacksmithing, similar in style to the woodworking course I attended. Designed and constructed in large part by a small team headed by master blacksmith and timber framer Soeren Uhlmann, the building has risen steadily over the months and now stands close to completion. One final push is necessary to finish and round off the project. Whilst the building stands ready, it is empty of much of the specialist equipment required for a fully equipped, multi functional blacksmithing workshop to reach its full potential. If you want to support the project, please follow the link to their crowdfunding project below. 4fund.com/yuewuw
Thank you Erik for bringing back the good memories by making this very nicely shot and edited movie. It’s great to look at the course through your lens and channel.
is it possible to get an update on an order from you guys? i brought an axe from Northmen 13 months ago (still haven't received it yet) and would love an update on it so i know about when i can expect it, my order number is 7552
Should probably tell so others don't get confused, it's expected to take 12-14 months to make it (as they probably get a lot of backorders), is mostly just wondering if I'll get it this month or next or if it's forgotten/delays
I admire you Erik, you have already built your own cabin and regardless, you still have the desire to upgrade your skills...congratulations young man🤝🏻 The skills displayed in that workshop are just awesome!
That entire place was just dripping with charm and character. It must have been almost like a dream to actually be there. Wish we had stuff like that here in the states.
just cashually watching your videos when i suddenly see a shot not only form the central station from the city where i live but also the exact train that i take everty single day, thats crazy
Thank you Erik, for bringing me along with you to the Northmen Guild and seeing the mastery that you got to be a part of. It's so fulfilling to see that the old ways will never die. This was refreshing. Kind of like a breath of fresh air. I can only imagine what your heart felt like with your hands on, and the smell of, the woods. And what it was like working with, and learning from, those craftsmen and those masters. . My heart was there, even though I wasn't. WOW!!! I have to live vicariously through you. Again, thanks !
What a fantastic opportunity to learn from true masters. I find it interesting that English is the universal language that allows people from nearly all parts of the world to easily communicate with each other. We Americans live a very insulated life already possessing a universal language within the confines of our own country, but we struggle mightily when we visit foreign countries.
Not universal language but language forced upon people through colonialism, wars and slavery 😂I mean look at America (conquered land from natives by Brits) Look at Africa again land gained by settlers . Look at Australia 😂 India Korea Vietnam And very recently now America and its root head of octopus Brits have stepped into afganistan, and middle East enforcing what they believe and undermining the culture and heritage of the ethnic people
I had a dear friend who came from Latvia, she had wonderful memories of her home, before the war of course, then not so much...Her stories of how she and her mother survived the Nazi rape gangs and escaping in the middle of the night were hair raising to say the least.....a wonderful woman.....she passed 10 years ago....I still think of her....her skill in watercolor was amazing.
What a great place, you must have had a great learning experience. I get the feeling that you could stay there for years and never run out of projects and things to learn.
wow, that was some intense precision crafting! That table turned out gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing you implement some of those techniques you learned as you go forward with your own projects.
Men At Work...how sweet the sound! For just a moment, when you arrived back at your cabin, I thought the table that so many had labored on during this video had made the journey back with you! But your table appears a bit thicker and heavier duty, but still a beautiful piece of work! Enjoyed the video, and I hope you'll continue to make things by hand and sell them! Take Care!
A peaceful, soul-lifting glimpse into the life of those who work with their hands and hearts. I am still on a high from absorbing your beautifully filmed video. Just transporting. So grateful for being allowed to accompany you.
To cudowny materiał najbliższy dna człowieka to z nim człowiek przekraczał kolejne etapy ewolucji.
Awesome. It wasn't really possible for me to know who was teaching, except the dude who burnt the bread, and of course Erik. I love the Viking stuff... the Nordic Countries. Cool
You never cease to amaze me. Your dedication to your craft is inspiring. I admire the patience you exhibit in completing your projects. 😎 I always look forward to your posts.
Many thanks for this video. Haven't had a chance to watch it yet but I can see from comments that some folks don't understand that the most convenient (economical etc) route from A to B is not always a straight line. 😀
This wonderful experience contributes to your ever increasing skill set. You are a world class craftsman & sharing this content shall educate & inspire others beyond our lifetimes.
Very nice to see you again and see how you’re coming along in life. Yes, these are exceptional craftsman don’t know if you’re familiar with it but Google a name.Richard Promeke at 50 years old, he built a cabin in Alaska thank you so much greetings from Mississippi USA
Honestly I've never really been in to woodwork myself. Of course in school we made some stuff but on a very basic level. This was very impressive. I really enjoyed your videos of building the log cabin and you should definitly learn more about woodwork and make your own brand stronger. Keep it up! I´m looking forward to more videos of your work.
Hello Erik, Thank you for such a wonderful video, The wood making skills.Shared Everyone in this video was so highly skilled. Including yourself, I loved watching everything that was created. I could watch this for hours. The table that was created was absolutely beautiful.Just like the one in your cabin. I also loved what looked like a possible headboard maybe ?Any of those items that a person could own. Would be so lucky and fortunate. All of these items were made with love and expertise, to last a lifetime and then some. I so can appreciate more of these videos. And I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos as always.
