Don't know much about EDDB Don't know much Engineering schemes Don't know much about the broken ships Don't know what my best route is for But I do know that conlonia's cool And I know that if you go there too What a wonderful world it would be
I don't want to live on this galactic sector anymore!... No seriously i just a 30 hours (of gameplay) ago and am already getting VIP quests to travel over 10'000ly to black holes and what not
This is weird, I literally just jumped to Colonia after about 1,000 jumps. I got the Xbox achievement and at the same time notification for this video. What a coincidence. I had to travel to Colonia to visit engineer Mel as he can do G5 beam lasers and a few other things. So far so good! Also made about 60 million credits just from honking every system I jumped to.
@@chaywarburton3488 You're right but you have to unlock several other engineers to get to that one and then unlock some more for the other G5 upgrades that Mel offers. Thought it would be less time / material consuming to go to Colonia haha
@@mikawelll I went with the Federal Corvette, fully outfitted with weapons and internal modules with 31ly jump range. Could have done it in half the jumps with my Asp Explorer which has about 64ly jump range but I need to engineer the Corvette's weapons and transporting it to Colonia would have taken 61 hours anyway and more than 1 billion credits. Edit: It was likely less than 1000 jumps, I think I miscalculated because I had to plot my route twice. May have been around 750
The ships that are impossible to get out here in Colonia, btw, are the faction based ships. If you want an Imperial/Federation/Alliance anything you'll want to buy one in advance and plan to ship it over.
@@cetifoxproductions Not sure how I feel about that news. In one sense it's nice that you can get more ships locally, but it also breaks with the feeling that Colonia is fiercely independent from the bubble.
I got very bored in Colonia for three times and very quickly, frustrated about the lack of possibilities, enormous costs to transfer stuff etc. and three times committed suicide because the idea of traveling back was a terrible one :-) Hope your experience is a different one but I am doubtful. :-) I think Colonia is interesting as long as you are not there.
Yea but traveling back is...really not that big of a deal? So you spend the better part of a day, or night or two, jumping while watching something or exploring. Then you're done and back. If you've put 1000s of hours into the game and want to keep playing in the future, is one or two days of travel really so terrible? Think of the explorer cash you would gain along the way as well.
in my opinion, it's a great place to visit if you haven't, but after that, you'd definitely need some realistic reason to spend time out there. im only headed there right now because I've never been
im heading back after a week, just gonna watch 2 movies, i got 150 jumps ahead of me :) not to bad ... as previously i didnt use neutron highway lol i did 150 jumps and got to 1/8 of the way
The Pulse wave scanner is now available in Colonia as Jaques has now been changed to a high tech system. I believe more ships & more A rated modules are now available. See Forum. You might want to re think some of this....
I was pleasantly surprised by the range of A rated modules for medium ships out there. I thought I'd be stuck on C and B rated modules, but if you look around, you can get everything you need. Yes, there's no equivalent to Jameson's Memorial making it trivial to buy and fit out a ship there, but it's more fun this way.
As far as not knowing where to find material traders, let me save you the trouble: Colonia has exactly ONE material trader for each type, THREE total, and that's it. One of them (iirc the manufactured trader) isn't even a station, it's a megaship inside an asteroid ring. Which, while it is a VERY cool location to visit, it does make landing a little tricky because if you try to approach from below the planetary rings you can get kicked out early and take module damage. Still, if you're heading out there for a change of scenery in order to break the monotony, bad news. The monotony is actually much worse. That said, the journey to get there, especially if you take the time to scan stuff and land on all the interesting looking worlds, is actually very enjoyable. On the plus side, there's like 3 minor factions in the whole area of 30+ systems, so it's very easy to quickly get yourself to Allied with every single person in the region. Makes getting access to higher-tier missions much easier. Also, Mel Brandon can engineer more or less everything that actually matters in the game. He's my favorite engineer ever because he really is a 1-stop-shop for 95% of my builds.
The monotony isn't bad if you're into exploration. Colonia sits on top of the neutron fields making it very easy to visit almost anything you want within a huge area around the core. So there's a lot of things to visit to break up your time in the Colonia bubble.
@@jalenharbin1715 my trip from the noob zone to colonia in a 24ly cobra mk3 took 3 days. And i couldnt even plot the full distance first go, i had to plot a midpoint course.
@@MrSpruce longer than the math said it would, but i made it there in one piece, i had to backtrack a bit to repair because, stupid me, i didnt get a repair module in the noob zone, just a fuel scoop....after i repaired, and rectified that, i did the second half of my journey. when i made it to colonia i got a bit over a million credits from the various missions that i took to get me there, and sold my exploration data for over 20 million credits.
I am planning to do the same thing. I`ve already a Python (equipped for everything but mining), an Anaconda (equipped for mining) and a Corvette (equipped for pew pew) all fully engineered to the brink ready to ship out. Was about 2 Billion Credits, the Python alone was 450 Millions, but it was worth it. I have builded two of each, so i have a full fleet of ships in the Bubble AND in Colonia. 😜 o7, Commanders !
I would do the same, but the 2.2 update for Stellaris totally broke the game for me. The new system is so horribly meh compared to the 1.7/1.8 version. Problem is now all the mods I run have updated to 2.x and I can't find old versions of them, meanwhile I got a new computer. Stellaris is, sadly, basically dead to me now.
Same, but I got the console edition. Elite Dangerous will aways hold a special place in my heart. While im not fully leaving Elite, Stellaris is going to take up a lot of time due to it being a RTS.
I moved to Colonia permanently 3 years ago. BTW, there is a Dav's Hope-like place in Luchtaine (where one of the engineers is) that has a damaged mega ship. You can actually loop cracking loose escape pods from it. Also, Colonia Dream (my port) has the largest selection of ships and modules over all, but another system just got the FDS, FAS and FGS. The Anaconda will pretty much be the biggest ship you can get. A-rated modules in class 6 or greater aren't available. Generally, there are three systems where you'll spend most time gathering ships and modules. There are three material traders (Data is at Colonia Dream). The Guardian tech broker is at Jaques, the Human tech broker is at Bolden's Enterprise in Tir. So, generally, you can get the Guardian modules in Colonia. Just make sure you gathered plenty of the required materials. There are a huge Guardian ruins halfway between the bubble and Colonia, so you could seriously stock up on all the Guardian obelisk data. Everything is more expensive here, that's for sure. And while you have access to all the possible engineering needs in only 4 engineers, be aware that their skills are in the process of 'maturing'. The more we use them to upgrade modules the better their skills are getting, and the higher grades they become capable of.
I did that. Started last June, started the journey and decided to detour and do a 10k LY radius loop around Sag A. Then they completely changed the exploration and I just couldn;t get my head around it, haven't really played much since as I have a Corvette 10k ly the wrong side of Sag A and 25k from nearest station. I really need to get back in the game and figure out this exploration, but logging on and having to remap everything just threw me and really put me off. I am not in a place where I can just experiment.
I spent over 700 million transfering ships and modules to colonia. It was worth it to me and if colonia has the modules you want then you can just sell the ones that are in your storage.
Yep, you seem to have things well in hand for coming out here. Medium ships are very convenient making this a good place to at least keep a Python or Krait towncar there if you go back and forth. Buying A rated modules can be hard, but you've planed for that. Taking a scenic route to Colonia can earn you a lot of cash just getting there, especially with the increased payouts. Part of the attraction of Colonia is that it's a small neighbourhood... it doesn't take too long before you develop a complete mental map of where everything is. When you hear about a location you start knowing that whether it's up/down, and towards the Colonia nebula or out towards Peng and Clover. The Peng nebula is closer than it appears... Colonia sits about 1000ly down on top of the neutron layer, which can be used to get there in only a few jumps. Clover is higher up and so a bit longer to get to.
Been playing around with the idea of leaving the bubble to Colonia. I didn't realize how developed it has gotten. But I am apprehensive about it. I've reduced my ship inventory to Python, Anaconda, Corvette. Love the Corvette but its jump range ain't that great. Got a few things to unlock but I wanna make the trip so bad.
@@mikezbr especially if it's one of the wonky really cool looking "hourglass" looking neutron stars, frist you are startled by covas, "WARNING FRAMESHIFT DRIVE OPERATING OUTSIDE NORMAL PARAMITERS!!" Then you are startled by beauty.
I spent 2.5 years out in Colonia. I loved it. The only thing that brought me back to the bubble was no A class mods. The engineers weren't that bad to unlock and you are seriously close to some cool exploring.
I'm in Colonia right now. I bought a Python out there and parked up my Anaconda. I'm going to get my last Elite (Combat) by doing it solely in the Colonia region. Sadly, however, I will need to go open up Tod the Blaster and come back again because otherwise I only have access to three of the four engineers and for Combat elite, that's not going to work. I've found data wake mining is as easy as anywhere in the Bubble right outside of Jacques Station. There's a constant stream of large Belugas leaving, convoy dispersal USS, and tourist ships and Commanders coming and going. Material mining is as easy as it is anywhere else, but I haven't yet looked into most traders.
Finding everything there is to find in Colonia itself is very fast because it's a small handful of system not much more than 2 jumps away from each other. However, there is plenty of interesting stuff nearby and you don't need to travel that far to find unexplored systems.
Wow, so much has changed. I'm on my way there right now in my fleet carrier with 22 different highly engineered ships created for specific purposes ready to do anything the galaxy has to offer me.. I can't wait only like 9 more hours of jumping LOL
Fyi, some delivery missions that require materials needed in colonia, are only available in the bubble, thallium for example, is only available for purchase in systems in the bubble, so mining seems to be the only option out there to complete those missions
I've recently come back from the Colonia region to do the community quests and got the impression while I was there that the region had seen enormous development over the last few years, just because of how the game lore suggests that only a few stations and support ships really comprised the initial expidition... but now there's seemingly dozens across an area almost as big as a faction bubble lol - I had no issue properly kitting out a keelback to do some mining for the 10 osmium for the engineer... then I got almost insta-popped by a wing of hyper-engineered pirates and lost all my exploration data and decided to come back later with a decked out ship and crush all who oppose me while I pewpew rocks. With the few hundred mil I made on the 1.5day journey back, I've kitted out and modestly engineered my first Anaconda, which is extremely competent at doing just that =D I'll probably head back to Colonia in my Anaconda in the not too distant future, once I've unlocked guardian tech.
My secondary commander may be joining you at the end of the month. I just wish that we had base building for this so that we could expand and create the new bubble of Humanity.
I just came back from Colonia. I took a Python too. Excellent ship choice. It's the biggest ship that can land at outposts. The only thing I couldn't find out there was a manufactured materials trader. Nothing showed up on the map so I spent a week and visited every occupied system I could find looking for one. No luck. There's an encoded material trader and a raw material trader but I found no place to balance the manufactured material inventory. Also, the ships for sale out there are considerably more expensive than in the bubble. Material scavenging, encoded, raw and manufactured, is no problem. I "explored" my way out to Colonia and back to the tune of around 300,000,000 credits each way. If you find a manufactured materials trader out there, please speak up. I'd really like to know why I couldn't find it if there is one. It's hard to believe that there isn't one.
Made the same decision a while ago. Haven't regret it. Looking foward for your videos in your new home and most important, Welcome to Colonia. EDIT: Also, @Down to Earth Astronomy now you can purchase A rated modules in Colonia and Guardian FSD Boosters (along with all the tech you unlocked), which was made available almost a week ago by Frontier. Not always available in stock but they refresh from time to time.
I got out to colonia and considered staying... then I realized I hadn't unlocked one of the engineers out there and to do it I have to go back to the bubble and unlock one of the engineers there that I never bothered to unlock :(
The time i went fo colonia, i was by amolst "accident": I accepted a courier contract and didn't look at the distance, and atacked a bit of those in the same location. When I realizaed how far this was going to be, i just took my little ASP X and it's 30ish ly range and hoped for the best
I'm a little late to the party, but I just got Elite Dangerous and I understand why it's so beloved by the community. Made my way to Sothis and finally earned enough to get my first Python! Eventually I'll travel out, but im not in a rush. Thanks for your vids, they've been a huge help
Took me 85 jumps to get to Colonia from Maia. 77 Ly. Anny and neutron hwy ftw. Just finished unlocking engs. Took my time, about 4 hrs. Lots fun stuff out here. I bought, built and fully eng. python to do all tasks needed. Loving Colonia! Hopefully see you around DTEA.
Neutron Highway to Colonia FTW!!!! at 80LY on my Jumpaconda, it takes me only 2 hours of non stop Neutron jumping to reach Colonia from the bubble. Now Colonia is a weekend getaway.
@@blazer666del I stripped her down to practically nothing. Tried to D rate all modules but the power plant wasn't cooperating. Once i did that i modded everything i could for light weight and stripped down mods for other modules. trying to lower as much mass as I could. She's strictly for neutron jumping as she has no shields and crap hull. Just got a 5a AFMU for on the go FSD repair. Your results may vary as this took me weeks of resource collecting and Engineer unlocking to get her up to the range I wanted.
😆 what a coincidence, I'm 30 jumps away from Colonia. I'm going there to engineer some shield cell banks, build some rep and to go to beagle point, afterwards. Safe travels man.
When I first started Elite I had getting to the centre of the galaxy as my objective. I had no idea how the game worked, if I needed money or different ships, all I knew was that I was going to visit Sag-A* ... 100 hours later and I finally have the Sol permit, this is going to take a while.
Making my way down to Colonia right now. Might be a little premature, since I'm still pretty new, and out of all the engineers I only bothered to get Farseer up to lvl4:x
Currently on my way. I left four of my ships to Bubble, so transferring them is going to cost me around ... 500 million credits. Never going back. I have a Galaxy wide federation bounty, and I want to leave Bubble forever. Going to miss Jardonnere for sure..
My home base is in carcosa (a system in colonia) I visited in on my way to beagle point a few years ago and never really left. I have ventured back to the bubble often for engineering and rank leveling but I always end up back at carcosa. I even have an anaconda runner built specifically for the purpose of going between the two bubbles.
She packed my bags last night pre-flight Zero hour nine AM And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then I miss the bubble so much I miss my wife It's lonely out in space On such a timeless flight
There's a megaship to get the escape pods from easily out near colonia btw, only takes a few minutes, i went out to unlock the engineers out there a couple of weeks ago for something to do
You do know there are others stations around Colonia right? You might have to make a few jumps, but with the exception of the Guardian kit you get most if not all of that stuff over here. What you can’t do is unlock engineers though as you said, but they were added after my move, so now I have to go back one day just to unlock them.
So you planned to leave the bubble and live outside of it, but prepared yourself the way that you can live on the same way outside like you lived inside... ;-) Hardcore looks different :-)
D2E see if you can map out some stations along the way in case, with would be nice to have a good route to follow, besides you are the only content creator that actually details your progressions thanks
I did the same thing.. but my brother started playing again so I came back to the bubble.. but I did ship two fully engineered ships out there. Two pythons, one for mining the other for general material collection. My combat ship was too expensive to ship but that will be next. The Colonia fleet is almost complete.
I did that ........ Eventually came back . Worth the experience though. I would never have gone to Sag A or Beagle point / Ishams reach if I hadnt , first , gone there first .
No gaming chair is as confortable as my sofa. I bounce around the galaxy both inside and outside the bubble. Next time I go to colonia I'm flying a fully equipped corvette out there.
When I reached Colonia for the 3rd time I realized I never wanted to go back to the Bubble. Now I have 75% of my fleet there. For all the CMDRs going to the Colonia bubble, there’s plenty of HGEs for Engineering If you know about them its possible to get invited just doing stuff in Colonia There’s a megaship distress call in Luchtaine by Mel Brandon where you can acquire the Occupied Escape Pods You can get all the mining equipment in Colonia, the video’s info is false AND YOU CAN GET FSD BOOSTERS at Jaques
Since 2014 playing elite and last week was my first voyage to colonia and 10 planets have my name as the first to discovered them. I blowed my ship to get back. What an experience. Going to solar empire bye bye elite for now.
You can get pulse wave analyzers out there now. I also recommend taking a lo g roundabout way there collecting lots of discovery data to turn in ar jaques ststion so you can have a nice cash boost and instantly get high rep with the controlling faction there so you can get good missions right off the bat.
Wouldn't a 4A refinery be a better choice? How about, as an idea, an Orca or similar and take some passenger missions and bring back some modules at the same time on the Orca? The Orca can hold several empty slots and utility mounts ot bring things over and the passenger missions help increase rank. And, unfortunately, most of the missions are two way, so you HAVE to go back anyway.
Be sure to check out Robardin Rock in Carcosa! It's the only place in Colonia that you can get Alliance and Federation ships, and is run by Loren's Reapers- the best bunch of lovable rogues you'll ever meet!
Should you ever be in need to return to the bubble w/o flying back with everything - I'd say consider storing all your engineered modules separately before going back. It's a crime how much bringing back a large ship costs.
Lol was thinking i was leaving alone...actually am exploring and heading to beaggle pt,but will end at colonia and maybe i say maybe end of the road 3307 will determined if not only i will stay there and continue. but also if i leave elite galaxy wandering for good.guess you can call that taking my retirement, nice place to end it.
coincidentally im doing the same thing right now, about 3kLy from the bubble right now. my federal dropship has made it a bit difficult but im making my way there nonetheless
A mate and I just flew out to Colonia on the way to Sag A*. I've unlocked 2 of the engineers. You CAN get a guardian FSD booster. I bought a python out there and put a type 5 Guardian FSD Booster in it for my trips around the area as my Anaconda is set up for long range exploration and not good to do anything but that. When I got to Colonia I had already sold about 25 mil in cartographic data to Colonia councel and when I got there I sold another 125 mil to Colonia councel, should have sold it to a different faction since I was already allied with Colonia councel I some how got 2 data missions to 2 different system to open up Mel Brandon. I still did both. Mel will take 100,000k of bounties for anyone not just Nameless. I just poped into a High RES and followed the system authority vessels and aid them for a few minutes before getting the more than 100,000K on the first kill Etienne Dorn needs 25 escape pods which you can get from a Banner Class Cargo Ship around Luchtain A1. I scanned the planet with and it was in my nav panel as a distress signal. Not sure if you actually need to scan the planet though. I dropped in, scanned the ship (after about 15 minutes hitting my head wondering why I couldn't do a data link scan...I didn't have my hard points deployed :/), scanned the Escape hatch 3, selected the escape hatch in the targets under contacts within the nav panel and used hatch breaker limpets. You can do this multiple times without exiting the instance. I black listed everything but the occupied escape pods. Some pods got stuck inside the ship so my collector limpets kept circling the ship. I did exit the instance once to reset everything. In the end I had 27 occupied escape pods in what should have been < 10min
Remember what the Edge Fraternity said: "The Edge Fraternity would like to wish all brave pilots making the journey to Colonia a safe and pleasant journey", good luck Astro :)
I am on my way to Colonia, but I use Corvette, I checked the route, my first stop is Mammon, I carry both hangers alone. All modules are B or A, in my opinion, engineer improved modules is not a MUST for the journey, will I come back to SOL?How can I know?😄
Been wanting to this myself but been waiting till I get all powerplay modules at 100+ of each except Asling. Wish they did something like adding a tier 6 to bypass the the 4 week requirements because this long delay is actually killing my interest in the game. Get on several day spread a month now to get stuff then change faction and plow rank. Would be playing more if it wasn’t such a waiting game.
I’m honestly wanting to launch an expedition to the other side of the galaxy. Wish I could afford a carrier to take out that way. I really want to go out to the Trojan sector. If I had a carrier make it a permit feature out there. Was thinking about doing a Orion Nebula expedition, but I’m not sure.
i took a trip to colonia, been here for a week... Decided i want a cutter ... you know what time it is... i need to get back to farm rank :D Dont go to colonia to find out you need the best A grades... you wont find them .... I found material traders 1 for each type of material... I also unlocked the engineers there, but i want to go back, farm the rap, get the cutter (already got 1.5 bil credits now, then go back to colonia enjoy my pension and go to the A star :D) Goodluck to all of you ! o7
Im there now. And i'll only return to the bubble if I own a Farragut and I'm picking up my friends and taking them to Colonia or if FDev adds A large Guardian ship that wont be available in Colonia until you collect a new type of Guardian bullshit material... Now if FDev adds Guardian sites stupidly close to the Colonia "bubble" then I most likely wont go back.
Hi you could make a list of items we cannot buy in colonia. I this is absurd we cannot buy those things in colonia. So i see this and i think twice on going to colonia. I think im stick in the bubble
You need to get a bit away from the Sol bubble to get to it. Neutrons tend to be really thin if any of your co-ordinates are less than 1000ly (Sol origin). You can use the Neutron Router at the spansh site to get a list where things are thin. Once you get closer to the middle, like around Sacaqawea Space Port, you just need to dive 1000ly down and then the neutrons are so thick that the in game route plotter will do an excellent job (so long as you stay 1000-1500ly down) making it easy and quick to get to Colonia from there. There's also a neutron field if you go up 1000-1500ly, but Colonia is 1000ly down, so if you use the upper layer you'll need to travel between them which will be 2000ly of slower travel.
Nice! You have plenty of time to make a great gameplay for yourself there. (just stay away from Painite and rest of ultra-expensive mining stuff. Mine other things ;). Fly safe o7
