We're up in Perth this week having fun at Scotland's premiere garden weekend, Scone Palace garden Fair, having fun and chilling with our friends.
The gimbal is out and misbehaving as usual as we just relax and appreciate a garden where we aren't responsible for the chores.
A beautiful June day in Scotland.

What a great event to be a part of. Local advice that's relevant to real gardeners is so important. And of course you presented is a fun and creative way.

@@eliandkate Isn't Scone Castle or "Old Scone" where Brian is the head gardener? I know him from watching him as a presenter on "Beechgrove Garden" on BritBox. You are so lucky to get to visit a historic and beautiful garden like that. He seems like a genuinely nice man. I'll be in Edinburgh in November for two weeks. We will be taking Rabbie's tours some days, a 3 day tour to Skye and be there to enjoy the holiday decorations. It is an expensive time to visit, but we decided we just had to do it.
@eliandkate
@eliandkate 3 месяца назад
it is indeed Bud. You'll see Brian in the snaps with us. He is indeed a lovely guy and has all the time in the world to talk gardening with folks. Unfortunately there's never a cheap time to visit Edinburgh but November will be a lot cheaper than August when the festival takes over the city. I always tell folk to avoid Edinburgh during the festival unless you are coming specifically for that. It's horrendous during it, overcrowded, the prices are all bumped up in all the local businesses and generally it's just unpleasant to be in the city. We avoid going into Edinburgh during it if we can.

A scorching 21C ? We get over 40C days occasionally here. The highest was over 46C. It's winter now so we only got up to 17C today. But I have spent time in Scotland as a youngster and don't remember ever seeing the sun. So horses for courses I guess.😊

Just came in from the garden so I have to ask why? Unless it’s too go to a garden supply store. Very hot here almost or at 90 degrees here the last three or four days. Things look good in the morning and not so great in the afternoon,O-well at least they are predicting some rain each of the next four days. Can’t believe the butterfly bush is the same one they shipped but I planted it.

What a lovely video. Visiting Scotland and the rest of the UK is high on my must do list. Now I know when I want to go, end of May for all the garden shows. Even though I live in the PNW (Pacific Northwest of the US), my growing conditions are similar to yours, I watch a lot of UK gardeners. I hope to meet you at a show in a couple of years, my husband and I are planning a big trip for our 50th birthdays. Now to convince him garden shows are what he wants to do, maybe I'll throw in a bit of whisky tasting to sweeten the deal. Also, I need to move my rhubarb into more sun, I think that is why it's struggling. I too way overwatered it in the big pot.

Eli, is it normal for staging benches to wobble?! I just got some staging for the first time and was surprised (unpleasantly) to find it wobbles. I have no idea if this is normal. I was paying particular attention when you were working on your staging in this video and thought I did detect some wobbles!?
@eliandkate
@eliandkate 3 месяца назад
If the surface is t even it will wobble but shouldn’t if the ground is level and even. My ground isn’t level so we have some pieces of wood under one corner to stabilise it However the stuff I was using in this video isn’t the same as the ones in my greenhouse. The stuff on the video is the super lightweight stuff and I’ve not actually fastened it…. It was just thrown out for potting on

Great video Eli. Can I ask you about the basil you’re growing? I’ve sown a load of seeds and now have a pot full of seedlings, do I need to pot these on into individual pots or should I put a few seedlings in one pot. Obviously it’s the first time I’ve grown this and I don’t think I should’ve put so many seeds in one pot!!! Thanks Deb.

Hey Deb So think of each of those little plants and the plants they’ll become 😀 so yeah they need some space. If you use a big pot you can put three or four in but they won’t do well if they are crammed together

I'm going to relax in an old rock quarry turned into a huge garden on Vancouver Island. Butchart Gardens has an amazing collection of plants, trees, 🌹 roses. Now I can pronounce "scones" like the Scots do. Chains on hanging baskets are a whole world of their own. We're going to have 25°C later this week. At least it's not the "heat dome" like 3 years ago with 30°C for 5 days. 600 people died.
