Oh wow, this made me feel SO nostalgic. Left Texas in 2013 after living in Austin for 14 years to go back to Germany. Wishing you all the best for your life in Germany!!!
Probably the only place in south Germany where you'll see thatched roofs is a very old Black Forest peasant house. And I think most of those are in open air museums.
Some of our foods are only available in certain seasons. Tvey really taste the best when they're fresh and they can only be fresh when they're regionall :) welcome to Germany. Hope you'll like it here ^^
45 million people of German descent live in America, making the Germans second among immigrants in America. Most people fled from Germany to America during World War II
Little me just watching some Videos on RU-vid while working (way too late). Casually looking over and seeing you walking around pretty close to my hometown. Thanks RU-vid Autoplay!
Welcome (back) to Germany you two. I really liked this video and look forward to watching the other ones. I have watched a few videos of Americans moving to Germany and noticed thst virtually all of them moved far down south. So I was quite intrigued when I realized you're moving to Northwest Germany where I grew up. At the end of the video I was like: Hold on for a second. That town and lake looks exactly like my hometown (Bad Zwischenahn) 😀
This video popped up one day, it looked interesting so I watched it. I loved it and went back and watched all your other videos. I come from Schleswig-Holstein, born in Kiel, live in America now. I hope you enjoy your new home in Germany. By the way, I subscribed right away. Looking forward to the next videos.
Welcome to Germany! I spent a few weeks in Texas years ago, and I remember how hard the jet lag hit me when I travelled home. The roofs you saw were in deed grass, at least a special kind of. It is called Reet and grows in the marshes. It is so special that you will not even find a Wikipedia entry :) As soon as these roofs show up, I know I am at home :) Hopefully we see a lot more Clips of your adventures, and not only the typically US tourist destinations (Bavaria, Beer, Schloss Neuschwanstein). Welcome again, have a nice time.
Tip. When you are in Germany go to the Butcher for Meat and the Bakery for Bread and Cake. It is way better Quality wise. Every Town, even the small Ones, have these two.
Just wanted to let you know that those houses are called thatched houses, their roof is made of reed (ger. Reet). Therefore their roof is called a Reetdach. So I wouln´t say its grass.
Willkommen in Deutschland! The jetlag is killing, flying this way, isn't it? This is the kinda video I wanna wtach with my kids and grandchildren in the US. Glad I found it on time (flying on monday). (Where in the north are you? I'm northern (Pinneberg). Be safe!
Thanks so much, Peter!! Haha yes, the jet lag is awful! We're near Oldenburg... so not too far from Pinneberg! Have a great flight!!! You'll have to eat some steak while in the US! ;)
Hehe: since I cooked the first steaks in the US, my wife had me in charge of doing them! (If you take a look at my channel, you'll find me subcsribed to mostly cooking channels ;-) i.e. take a look at "sous vide everything". Guga is mostly cooking steak.
I'm german and I've never put any kind of solid/hearty stuff on raisin bread.. Normally you put sweet stuff on it. Correct me if I'm the only one my fellow citizens.
Welcome to germany 😉 Hope you enjoy it!! And by the time maybe you will eat that "Rosinenbrot" (bread with raisins) with just a thick layer of butter - most common way to enjoy it. Honestly never saw anyone eating it with Leberwurst and was hoping for your reaction 😂 You guys are both originally from texas? Your german, especially the pronounciation is really really good!
@@MyBigGermanAdventure that explains why there isn't much of an accent when speaking german. So all the best for you two! And hopefully you also feel welcomed and get used to our (sometimes honestly very strange) habits and life 😅😉
Rosinenbrot is not a typical German bread. I don't know any German who eats it except at Eastern time. At Eastern you eat it sometimes in the afternoon with your coffee instead of a cake.
Ford Fiesta, in compare with apparent have to be Ford Mondeo (platform for Ford 500). Ford Fiesta is good for daily home-work(shopping)-home, but for travel it totally don't fit.
Rosinenstuten (Raisin-Bread) looks like Bread but it contains much sugar and i would see it more like an cheap alternative to cake or cookies. I also would eat it with a cup of coffee. If you want real Bread, you should avoid the factory-made Bread inside the Store and use the Bakery at the Entrance of the Store. Its not as cheap, but its fresh and tastes better.
As Germans we Love Texas, it is Kind of legendary to many of us. 👍🌲 I really Hope you enjoyed your Times here and witnessed some of the real Germany. 🇩🇪🇺🇸
Welcome to Germany! Hope you settle in nicely and get used to all those German peculiarities quickly. I had to smile about your grocery store experience. My hubby is a Kiwi and he still gets amused by some of the stuff you can get in the shops (like Super Dickmann...haha). Anyways, enjoy Germany. Cheers from Oldenburg
First: Welcome to Germany! Have a good time and enjoy your stay. Second: I just noticed you are from Wichita Falls. If you don’t know it already please listen to Pat Methenys „If falls Wichita, so falls Wichita Falls“. Wish you all the best!
Hi there, I see you're in Oldenburg? It's a 3,5 hour drive to Amsterdam. It's pretty tourist-y nowadays, but since you're so near to the Netherlands you shouldn't forget to visit it once if possible 😀
WHHAAT Fleischsalat and Leberwurst auf Rosinenstuten :) are u serious? U cant eat meat on Rosinenstuten. Try Honey, marmelade or any other sweet stuff on it.
Germany is not what it was 20 years ago...sorry, folks. the autobahns were super awesome and now they're staubahns!! way over populated and restrictions for pretty much anything you can think of, exist. high taxes across the board, more crime, and even murder. don't get me wrong, it's a nice country, but it has changed drastically over the last 2 decades.
First off all I LOVE YOU’RE SUNGLASSES OMG 😍 so why are y’all moving to Germany? And where in Texas are yall from? I’ve lived in Texas in like the Dallas area and I am now living in Germany again with my American bf :)
You're so sweet, Anna, thank you! :) We moved from Wichita Falls, so like two hours northwest of Dallas. Sounds like you're on an exciting adventure yourself!
I think I’ve been there for a football game 😏 I hope you enjoy Germany and it slowly begins to feel like a home to you! I know how hard it can be :) hope you’ll keep us updated on here, it is really interesting!!! 🙌🏾
In welchem Paralleluniversum? German beer is boring and that's due to the "Rheinheitsgebot" (which doesn't guarantee it's purity at all, btw). There is so much better beer out there!
My Big German Adventure Danke und hoffentlich gefällt es euch in Deutschland. Kein Land ist perfekt aber Deutschland hat wie bereits schon einmal erwähnt einen hohen Lebensstandard
& my favorite grogery store Penny ! On Penny market you can boock a cheap buscoach "Flixbus" ticket to everywhere too! I think its pretty cool😎 (its new in Penny since beginning this june^^)
I didn't know that chain either, even though I grew up in Schleswig-Holstein and am now living in Hamburg. Apparently they are only in Lower Saxony and northern North Rhine-Westphalia.
Warm welcome to Germany! Just some heads up: Be careful filming in public (e.g. the grocery store). Other than in US we have a much stricter privacy law. I personally think filming the area cash counter is critical. A rule of thumb: The less person you film the more the privacy counts and you might need to ask for permission. In general the privacy counts more than the public interest and it is much more complicated like in the US where it is recognized as a 1st Amendment right. Get off from the nordish "national" meal called "Labskaus" :D Not even every German likes it. Keep in mind that Germans doesn't like superlatives. This might be the difficult part for US citizens. When we say: "It's great!" it is equal to "Oh, my gosh, that is soooooo awesome! I'm so exited!". At least we are effective and precise. When we criticize we do not compliment before one or two things like in the US. That's not meant rude. Just direct ;-)
expect the german netto is NOT the danish netto xD in germany we have the Netto Marken-Discount which has thousends of stores thats the big one, i know the danish one has like 100-300 stores in germany too, but in 33 years in germany i not saw a single one while i was in douzends of Netto Marken-Discounts xD
