#1 is not a travel, it's a jump stop. #2 is a travel but that goes uncalled constantly. #3 is a travel but just barely. I can see why it didn't get called. #4 also a travel by the book but if you are trying to show Lebron travels there are 1000 examples far more obvious than these.
Tony C I'm sorry, but LeBron took one step before his jump-stop. That brings his total number of steps after dribbling to three, meaning it's a travel.
Thor Christensen I believe that step was completed at about the same time the left hand got the ball back. A dribble ends when it's back in the hand not when it's back off the ground.
***** you obviously dnt know basketball or play. You can't take a step and then hop. you have to take a bounce on the step and leave the floor off both feet. if you take a step and a hop that is 3 steps
- 1st one not a travel. - 2nd definitely was a travel, should have been called. - 3rd one wasn't really a travel. Yes, there was a minute slide with the left foot but no advantage was gained from it. It would have been a petty call. - 4th one was a big slide, definitely should have been called.
Anthony D Nah man, I WAS more of a 90s fan.... Penny Hardaway, Jordan, Shawn Kemp , Hakeem Olajuwon. Then I grew up and realised that I have better things to do than idolize basketball stars
Lewis James-Odwin I wouldn;t have called the 3rd one either, but you;re wrong on the 1st one because on a hop step you have to leave off 2 feet land on 2 feet, anything other than that is a travel
It's not a travel today. For the first 100 years of basketball it was a travel, for the last 15 years it's a hopstep or eurostep. No matter what you call it by the rulebook definition of traveling it's a travel. The leeway of the league though it's a "step" of some sort. James harden and is shuffling feet are in the same category
@@itz-luigi1210 It hasnt been a travel since at least 1986 when I started playing basketball. Thats a hell of a lot more than 15 years ago, even though sometimes it feels like 15 days ago. The eurostep is not the same as the hopstep.
That was WAY more than a hop. He jumped and landed on both feet and THEN jumped again to shoot. If this were legal, a player could easily attain 100% FG percentage.
+turdsandwicher , not calling the travel does not mean it didn't happen. He traveled on each play. I am guessing you are young. In the old days, when they actually used the rules, those are travels,
+tedbert they've never called that pivot foot slide a travel in the nba. because every single player does it.........that 1st play was not a travel. I'll do that exact move in a hundred leagues and it'll never be called
***** , you cannot lift your pivot before dribbling. "your foot will slide a few centimeters when sprinting. Get off the couch and try it" I played basketball for 30+ years. It was very easy to keep my foot from sliding. Also, James isn't sprinting. "then his dribble landed before his third step landed" You have no idea what constitutes a pivot foot, do you? You must be in your 20's or younger. You aren't allowed two steps and then a dribble. Try reading the rules of basketball. Do you need me to copy and paste them for you?
iDominatemkwii What makes a team "super"? Was Harden, Westbrook, KD, and Ibaka a "super" team? Magic, Worthy, Kareem (all in the HOF)? Was that team "super"? Hell the 80s Celtics had HOF playerS (plural) coming off the bench. Were they "super"? Or do you just hate LeBron? There's a reason only 2 teams from the West (LA and Houston) and 3 teams from the East (Celtics, Philly, and Detroit) went to the Finals in the 80s. Because they had the best players and the best teams.
***** Just to let you know, The first travel shown on the video isn't a travel. In NBA if you collect and step at the same time you still have 2 more steps. Since he hopped that counts as 2 steps. If he pivoted after the hop that would have been a travel. Just to let you know
Slight correction.. the jump stop counts as 1 step if you come down on 2 feet.. otherwise you're right.. if he had pivoted it would've been a travel but since he came down on 2 feet and went up with his shot, it's a legal play. Only those who don't know the rules think otherwise
The first one wasn't a travel, the others were trivial. They don't call these pivot travels outside of the paint on anybody in the league. The refs understand that some things technically are against the rules but do not affect the outcome. If they called every minuscule violation like that the game would drag
Thank you! Dealt with so many ignorant middle aged nba fans I’ve met that complain traveling COMPLETELY RUINED THE ENTIRE NBA and I’m just like stfu with that narrative it’s taking one tiny trend of how they CHOOSE to call it for everybody and making it something else
None of these are travels, only arguement is may be 2nd where his foot is slightly lifted off the floor. All the drives before he takes a step off the pivot, the ball has already left his hand which means he is dribbling, and all NBA players do that since forever.
Isn't it a travel? I know what a hopstep is and what you're supposed to do is jump and land on both feet TWICE = two steps. Lebron took 2 steps (one step each with both feet) THEN landed on TWO feet = three steps
The rule does not specifically refer to steps but to "counts" after your pick up your dribble. You could technically pick up the dribble in the air...land on both feet for one count...go in the air and land on both feet for your second count and execute your shot. In this particular play...Lebron actually does take 2 counts. Far from a travel although he does travel a lot in general. Some of the worst footwork ever for such a high profile player.
Look at how he demonstrates how to do a hop step. Lebron did the same exact thing but he took a bigger step. It doesn't matter how big or small the step is a step is a step
number 1 no travel, number 2 clear travel, numbers 3 and 4 clear travels also, but small enough to go unnoticed, unless you are specifically looking for travels.
AliMD76 how is #1 not a travel? You cant be fucking serious? You cant leave the ground with both feet and land back on the ground with the ball still in your hands. Fucking duh......welcome to 1st grade basketball.
@@maninblack9850 another one who's never heard of a HOP STEP / JUMP STOP and its perfectly legal. What you describe cannot be done IN THE ACT OF SHOOTING, but is PERFECTLY LEGAL in the move before the shot/pass. Its clear you've never played BBall in your life, nor been coached, because IT IS SPECIFICALLY TAUGHT by every single coach/academy I've ever been to. Get off your ass and go play real ball.
LBJ is most disgusting NBA super star in the basket ball history. A lot of young fans who compare with MJ and claim that he will transcend MJ's records and position. Come on!
1 is a travel in Europe, not in NBA. 2 is a travel everywhere. 3 is technically a travel if you look it under a microscope, but it isn't called anywhere in this world. 4 is a 50/50 call.
+Denis Wurm Europa is one of Jupiter's moons but you're right he's tripping over himself trying to defend lebron. The dude travels all day but he isn't the only one
Me defending Lebron? LOL I'm the first in line to call him LeFlop or LeBrick. 3 is a 50/50 call, NBA referees don't like to call that because it wasn't THAT obvious. 1 is clearly 3 steps in Europe, but this also isn't getting much calls in the NBA. You niggas should stop tripping.
Did you not watch the video, your supposed to hop off of that first step. Lebron picks up his dribble, takes an additional step and hops off that. That was a travel.
If your 30 years old and up, You and I know both know these are travels!!!! But we also understand how the game caters to LEBRON in particular! It's all good! Real ballers know...we ain't worried!
If Jordan would’ve done any or all of these he would of been called for traveling. He was always getting called. He was watched the most out of any player of his time. All of Lebrons travels that he scored on should be subtracted from any totals in history books.
Player is on the move. Ball is being dribbled with left foot on the ground. Player collects, right foot hits ground - pivot foot established. Second step both feet hit the ground. Player jumps off both feet and shoots before either foot touches the ground. LeBron is a rampant traveller but this instance is actually really good play. And legal. He can land on both feet and lift one or both feet if he wants as long as neither foot reconnects with the ground after leaving it.
Someone is quite upset that Lebron keeps beating his favorite team. 1 is not a travel, 2 isn't getting called on anyone, 3 isn't a travel, and 4 isn't getting called on anyone in the league. The sliding pivot foot happens every game to all sorts of players and never gets called.
first one is a hop step, as long as you land on both feet simultaneous (which he does) it is considered as one step -> therefore only 2 contacts -> no travel.
The first one was not a travel. You can jump off your first step and jump stop... That is how you do a jump stop... Don't really get that one. These are alll terrible hahahaha. none of these are even travels. Your pivot foot will have some movement no matter what... When you take your first step your foot will slide back. You can pivot on your heel or toe
Checkout the play this year when he took 4 steps on a break away dunk vs the Celtics... Avery Bradley calls it... the official... not so much. It's almost laughable!!
tim w I've looked over the video, there was one travel, and maybe one more if you're strict, so yes, LEBRON HAS TRAVELED, big surprise, everyone ever to play has traveled once before, if you haven't you're either stupid or denying the truth. I really don't get what is the big deal over one or two uncalled travels (because I could find you two of stephen curry's uncalled travels in the nba finals alone)
+SuperDave B-Ball its not a jump stop, its a hop step... and that just proves that you don't know what a hop step is... you clearly don't play basketball... you can't actually have possession of the ball (two hands/ holding it) when you jump... if you do thats just jumping with the ball in your hands... the whole idea is that you dribble the ball and as its coming back up from the floor you hop to another location and grab the ball after you have already left the ground... if you actually do play basketball then you've been doing it wrong and traveling this whole time... fix your game...
+Mitchell Carter That is a jumpstop, a hop step is subtly different. You're allowed to come down on both feet at once, and that's a dribble move we teach to AVOID traveling all the way down to elementary levels. In the NBA you're allowed two steps, and one can be a jumpstop. With his particular footwork in the clip, had the right foot touched significantly first or he attempted a step-through then it would have been a travel. Here's a video so you can learn the correct definition of a hop step. www.nba.com/video/channels/nba_tv/2014/01/23/making-the-call-hop-travel.nba/
Those were clear travels(except for the first, its legal). But I think in the game your not paying attention to small details such as this. Now again it looks small, but that small space james created by sliding his pivot foot was enough space to use to take off. So in all honesty those travels were very important to the game. You people sticking up for james must not have played basketball cus you would know how much that spacing he created by sliding his pivot is important.
you’ve got to be kidding me with this video. Take any ball handler in the NBA thats played more than 5 years and you could make a compilation of missed “Travels” NBA is a fast moving game. Hard to get every call. OBSESSED
1st one is a pro hop, 2nd one isnt a travel, its not like he took a whole step, his feet slid a little but to give him some momentum to drive, everyone does that and it never gets called, same for the 3rd one and i didn't understand the last one because you made a jump cut, why not leave the full play? and im not even a lebron fan
you cant take a gather step, another step and then jump for the pro hop. and nobody moves their pivot foot before starting their dribble, its a travel.
He only traveled in one clip. Let me justify: the first clip LeBron preformed a hop-step which counts as 1 step if both feet are planted. Second and third clip: his pivot foot did not leave the ground but, moved hence the word PIVOT, therefore both feet are allowed to move. Fourth clip: He did travel. I'm glad to educate everyone.
only the latter two could be called travels, but realistically speaking, if you watch the NBA regularly, you will see basically every perimeter player do this. it usually isn't called unless its quite blatant or if the pivot foot actually moves off the ground
These are all travels. No one here saying otherwise has a clue. #3 is very subtle however and would probably not be called in any circumstance. In #1 he completes the gather, jumps, lands with both feet and jumps again. In the rest he clearly moved pivot foot before the ball even leaves his hands.
Not sure if NBA has different traveling rules to the official FIBA rules but at least on FIBA rules it is explicitely allowed to end the dribble, land on one foot and jump from there to stop on both feet - neither of which can then be used as a pivot. Therefore no traveling in 1st clip where he proceeds to make a jump shot without pivoting unless NBA rules state otherwise.
The first is definitely not a travel. You're allowed to take one step and a hop. What bothers me is that the NBA doesn't call the one step, hop and a fake a travel. By rule, after a step and hop, a player has to go straight up. Once he fakes it, its a travel.
1st one's not a travel.. first step is the step after the last dribble. in this video the "first step" is with the last dribble so it's not really a first step.
Plus, the idea is that you jump while the ball is in the air during your final dribble. Thus making the extra step legal because the dribble had not terminated yet. Lebron took a crab dribble, gripped the ball with two hands, took a full step and then jumped onto two feets and jumped again. Wasn't close to being anything legal
I thought the first one was a travel too at first. But when you slowed it down, it was clearly a well executed jump stop. If he would have started the hop any later or taken another step after, then it would have been travel.
That one's a tough call, but the problem with it is that he leaves off of one foot to jump stop. When you jump stop, you have to leave off both feet. It's less obvious in the situation in this video, but if he were running the floor, you would be able to tell how much that extra step helps him move through the defense.
You can't jump stop unless zero steps or basketball moves occur first. The rules are very clear about this. The fact that he cheated further by doing the move off of one foot to avoid another player just illustrates the leeway and cart blanche the NBA affords this dude that Jordan got 2 years beating the shit out of The Jazz of; not a career. Plus he bashed Larry Bird who he isn't nearly as gifted as in terms of basketball acumen, shooting, or passing ability. Why the fuck is he some sort of basketball demigod to millennials and the media?
Giraffe 2015 You sound stupid. But they said the same stupid shit about MJ so I'm not surprised. They just didn't have idiots on the Internet who didn't know the rules.. well at least not nearly as many. And how did he miss his only chance at another? He took a 67 win team to 6 games in the Finals basically by himself. If Irving and Love stay healthy, he will probably get at least another 3 looks at it. Maybe more.
Giraffe 2015 Why? Neither Irving nor Love have even hit what most would consider their prime yet and they're both locked in for at least 5 years. They're gonna be the favorite in the East every year unless one of those 3 gets hurt. And they will always be able to attract role players bc guys like playing with LeBron. I'm not saying how many more he will WIN.. bc luck has a lot to do with that.. but he's gonna have at least 3 more CHANCES at it unless something drastic happens
Giraffe 2015 You must be under 30.. bc YES they said MJ traveled.. and they complained that he got every call.. there just wasn't an internet in the late 80s and early 90s for trolls to troll.
Maybe people have better things to do with their time than look for old VHS movies and creating videos to put on RU-vid. At least I hope they do. And by the way I just searched it and yes there actually are a few MJ travelling videos. Not the same number as other players but like I said, old footage isn't so easy to come by on a game-to-game basis like it is today.
Ok, I'm a Celtics fan and I hate Lebron. He's a self promoting POS. But these are horrendous examples of travels. The first move is completely legal(it's called a jump stop). And the rest are nitpicking him sliding his pivot foot a bit?? Really?? Gimme a break. All the foul calls he gets is way more troubling. Everyone is the NBA gets away with traveling.
"A progressing player who jumps off one foot on the first step may land with both feet simultaneously for the second step. In this situation, the player may not pivot with either foot and if one or both feet leave the floor the ball must be released before either returns to the floor" -NBA Official Rulebook pg 37 (Rule 10 SectionXIII). The rules specifically describe what James does here as legal. I agree it feels like a travel, it SHOULD be a travel, but the rules are clear - it's legal.
1. illegal jump stop. 2. shuffles both feet. 3.illegal pivot foot launch dribble step. 4. Pivot foot moves a mile and spacing for fluke luck three pointer is artificially created. Verdict: Celtics get fucked out of a playoff victory for Lecheat hype purposes.
I don't think the jump stop was illegal. First clip isn't a travel. The others were travels but happened so quick that I can't blame the refs for missing it. Every player gets away with those.
I knew people would dislike this video. The refs are looking for travels, but when lebron does it, they have to ignore it. If he takes 5 steps, THEN they will call it.
smh at all the people in comments saying #1 isn't a travel. learn the rules. you can't go from a step into a two footed hop. each foot touching the ground is considered a 'step'.
#1 is not a travel - If a player jumps off one foot on the count of one he may land with both feet simultaneously for count two. In this situation, if one or both feet leave the floor the ball must be released before either return to the floor. (Look it up its in the NBA rule book). The rest of them are technically travels but nothing excessive or things I have not seen most players do. I have seen LeBron travel but these are poor examples IMO.
Some of these aren't travels, some probably are. But to me, it just shows his basketball IQ. NBA players know the rules, but not everyone thinks through exactly how it's best to optimize using two steps only, even if he messes up or abuses the rule sometimes.
He's still doing it in these finals. Watch my travel video... its only one I recorded while watching. He comes from almost half court to basket when you slow it down. The NBA has changed tremendously. It's evolved to be very loose on calls to show a more extravagant game. I'm over it but still it bothers that old school mentality.
i don't think his dribble ends until he picks up the ball. your first example is off. you counted his dribble ending as when the ball touched the floor, rather than when his dribble actually ended
The first example in this clip is not a traveling violation. It's a legal jump stop if both feet hit the ground at the same time. Everything else this guy does with the basketball is almost always 100% traveling.
How is one of the most athletic professional basketball players ever, regularly traveling & also being considered in the GOAT conversation. It looks like he doesn’t even realize he’s traveling? How is that possible at this lebvel?
First one wasn't a travel. "A progressing player who jumps off one foot on the first step may land with both feet simultaneously for the second step." For the rest of those "travels", none of them gave him an advantage.
As a Celtic's fan and a Lebron hater, I'm really not going to make that big of deal out of it. You can find a travel by either team if you looked really hard every time down the floor.
The first one is fine. The 4th one was like the uncalled Corey Magette travel LOL. But overall I'm more pissed that Lebron "draws" so many fouls when he initiates 90% of the contact.
Art. 2. A player who catches the ball while moving or dribbling may stop and establish a pivot foot as follows: a. When both feet are off the playing court and the player lands: 1. Simultaneously on both feet, either may be the pivot foot; 2. On one foot followed by the other, the first foot to touch shall be the pivot foot; 3. On one foot, the player may jump off that foot and simultaneously land on both; neither foot can be the pivot foot. the first clip is NOT travel. it is a jump stop. he ended a dribble on one foot, jumped, landed on both feet, all of which are legal.
