Soujanya Mohanty it is pretty straightforward. Short circuit MVA (per phase) is Ef*If. Means total 3 phase Short ckt MVA would be root(3)Ef*If Here Ef=VL (line voltage) and If=VL/Z So SCMVA= root(3)*VL^2/Z But Z=Zpu*Zbase And Zbase=VL/IL => Z=Zpu*VL/IL Putting in SCMVA: root(3)*VL^2/(Zpu*VL/IL) But IL=MVA/(root(3)*VL) Putting in SCMVA eqn: SCMVA=MVA/Zpu =50/(0.1+0.1+0.1+0.1) =125MVA So for symmetric fault you don't even need to find individual MVAs. Just take base MVA and divide it by the sum of all Zpu values.

3rd method derivation: Total 3 phase Short circuit MVA = Root(3)*single phase short ckt MVA= = root(3)*Ef*If = root(3)*Ef^2/Z (where Ef is base voltage and Z is total impedance actual value) Now Z=Zpu*Zbase But Zbase= VL/IL (line voltage/line current) = Root(3)*(VL)^2/MVA (where MVA is the 3 phase base MVA) Hence, Short ckt MVA = Root(3)*Ef^2*MVA/(Zpu*root(3)*VL^2) = MVA/Zpu {since Ef=VL} = MVA/(Zpu1+Zpu2+...) In the example, base MVA=50, Zpu1=Zpu2=...=0.1 Hence, short ckt MVA= 50/(0.1+0.1+0.1+0.1) = 125MVA

एक मित्र ने इस मेथड को बताया था मुझे , लेकिन ये कैपेसिटर वाला कांसेप्ट सुंदर था !! पूरे सिस्टम के कॉमन बेस mva को लेकर उसे अगर equivalent series pu reactance से divide करेंगे तो भी answer 125 mva ही आएगा ! Base MVA divided by सोर्स से फाल्ट की लोकेशन तक का total pu reactance.

Third method is mentioned in Ashfaq Hussain. Whereas I knew the first and last method. One can also find the SC MVA By taking MVA base/X Where X Is the net reactance or total reactance.

For example given gen capacity-50MVA Ef=10kV having Xg as 1 ohm and given that base MVA for whole system is 100MVA.By the 3rd method which u have explained.SCMVA for gen is (100MVA*10kV*10kV)/(1 ohm *50MVA)...Is it right??

In third method you don't even need to find individual MVA/Zpu. Simply take base MVA and divide by sum of all pu values of reactance

Sir, in MVA method ...1).is it necessary to keep all equipment at common base ?.... 2)And also.....for some equipment which is given with impedance rather than Only reactance ....do we need to take impedance in MVA/Xeq.... or we just have to take reactance part of it...
