The first time I heard Dr Street preach was in South Africa on 27 May 2001 - on my birthday - and his message concerned Matt 22:37-39 and self-love, a message that changed my life. Nearly 19 years later, and I still remember it well. I have been an evangelical Christian for 3 decades, and till today, I have not seen or heard of ONE instance where parents abused their children or their wives. I have heard and seen marital problems, but not abuse. So, my experience flatly opposes some of the wild opinions below.
In my own experience investigating child abuse, I have seen child abuse prevalent in non-Christian homes for many various reasons. However, I do believe it can happen in Christian homes.
Does biblical counseling include legal mandates such as a duty to report child abuse? As a secular counselor, I wonder if this type of counseling includes legal protections that priests benefit from
Only depending on which state they live by, sadly. In 33 states clergy are exempt from being mandated reporters- also, those who undergo this training are not licensed counselors and not mandated reporters either
My apologies Daniel. My comments were directed to Psycho Therapist who seemed to make a huge assumption about Christian homes. I should have made that clear. Psycho Therapist certainly doesn't sound like a Christian.
@@lcswlcastherapist1575 I read Sam Harris. His arguments are not convincing. I'm still a devout Christian. I suggest you read Vox Day on Harris. Much more convincing.
Child abuse is not as common in Christian homes as it is in secular? What is this remark based off? Is there honesty in the counseling sessions? How many sessions have been done for one man to find this out? Child abuse is common regardless of the labels of Christian and secular. How advanced is this course anyway?
It sounds like your hatred for Christianity has blinded you from any meaningful discussion or intellectual honesty. I hope and pray the Lord will show you your sin and grant you faith in Jesus Christ.
Larry Lynch nice assumption. I am a believer for over 20 years. Why not ask before assuming? Scripture encourages us to be quick to listen and slow to speak.
