I'm encouraged to learn that at 63 years old I have 4 years to learn Hebrew and still be in the 50 percentile. I can do it!

I've been Dr Barricks online student for over 8 months now, It's been a enriching experience learning from and with him, I couldn't have asked for a better Hebrew teacher and now I've moved to this series of learning with him and I see another side of the man and why he's been so very successful and one the best instruments that God is using for us to learn his word and language. Thank you Dr Barrick for sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience with others who are willing to learn.

Wow! What an encouraging statement to have received @ 9:30... Hebrew is the language in which 2/3 to 3/4 of the Bible was originally written and is easier to learn for non-native speakers than English would be to non-native speakers! Also the Biblical vision of learning the language of our Father (or if you will, the bride learning the language of her bridegroom) as an imperative brings a promise. Thanks prof! Thanks most of all to Joshua for this peek into the tms classroom-- Inspiring.

I have been listening to Dr Bill Barrick intermittently over 7 years. I have great respect both for the quality of the teaching and the character of the man. His presentations are always well prepared. I also have great respect for a Christian professor who respects the text and who treats it has both an historical document but also, more importantly, as God's revealed Word. May God continue to bless him and all who listen to his lectures, especially his Hebrew lectures.

Can anyone help me understand the dagesh rule which is in the word (גֽוֹרָל֔וֹת ) means lots in Jonah 1:7. This word appears twice but one with the dagesh and one without. both words precedes open syllables and starts with new syllable. Does anyone know why? Thanks for your help

I think it has something to do with the accent on the word that precedes it. With the first גורלות the preceding word has the strongest conjunctive accent there is, the munach. This essentially makes it so that you would pronounce both words (with the munach and the one following it) as one word. The second גורלות is not preceded by a word that has a munach. I'm not sure what accent it is (on ויפלו), but it is either a minor disjunctive or minor conjunctive accent. I hope this helps, I'm only a student myself, so no promises of me being correct, but I think this might have some merit to it :)

@@daniellinzel1994 thanks Daniel. Appreciate your comment. It doesn't make much difference in the meaning but I was curious why the accent

This is exactly what I have been eager to learn about Hebrew Scriptures. 4 out of the 6 "Required Textbooks" are already in my bookshelf, by which I was thinking to teach myself alone. For the OT textual criticism, I bought additionally Emanuel Tov's "Textual Criticism of the Hebrew Bible"(third ed., revised & expanded, Fortress Press, 2012, Minneapolis). Limitless gratitude for your making the materials available on public platform here.

We watch Dr. Barrick's lectures many, many times. Is his syllabus in this course downloadable.? If so, is it on his webpage?
