"History has to be the bond"? So RT is proposing on her own that any history has to be concocted to suit the historian's politics, including her own, even if the purpose and time frame of any form of nationalism is so limited. Here, she misses or glosses over the fact that her opponents are trying to discard the entire label of Aryan. But doesn't any history need to approach some kind of accuracy with respect to demonstrable archaeological evidence?

at 10:25, Prof. Thapar states that "there was no history of India as a unified territory prior to colonialism". Is this an established fact? If it was so, what was the Mauryan Empire & Gupta Empire, which spread across considerable areas of present-day India? Why in our Puranas, the present geographical area of India is called "BharataVarsham"? Why one of our great epics is called Maha-Bharata? Why did Adi Sankara establish four Mathas in four locations in the North-South-East-West part of present-day India? Did the concept of "Bharatha" did not exist prior to the entry of the British? Please enlighten me!
Puranas are mythological, they're not considered as historical sources. Even mauryan and mughal empire didn't cover whole india, let alone small empires like gupta. Lastly, india was caste based society and that caste had ethnic differences so just because adi shankara has placed maths here and there tells us about brahminical colonisation, not a nation-state.
@@Aman-qr6wi The point is the "idea" of Bharat is not a recent origin. It is clearly mentioned in our puranas & ithihasas. Suppose you want to know the history of certain tribal groups in a remote forest area. When you enquire about their history they will tell you their history in their own way which may not be same as the way modern historians will describe. It may have facts & imaginations. It's the job of the historians to decipher the facts from the imagination. In purans there is a detailed description of historical geography of Bharat which you can easily verify.
North Eastern Regions were not ruled by mainland Indian Empires not even by thr mughals. So, I agree with the claim that we were united by british geographically.

@Bot 27 I'm an ordinary Indian interested to know the truth. Why should I keep quiet? Agreed that I'm not knowleadgeable enough to counter RT but I've enough intellect to understand what is right vs wrong when someone with knowledge talk about it like RM. Let RT accept to speak to him in a public forum to counter him. I bet she'll never ever agree to it in her lifetime.
@@rakhimukerji7937 Yes, Rajiv Malhotra got an agenda of bringing our culture, and other great things back to its glory. Whereas Mrs Thapar has been demeaning in everyway possible since decades with all the possible platforms being provided to her, brainwashing young minds with completely incorrect/distorted information. It is time for us Indians to realise our true culture and greatness; currently, Indians do not have self respect, good feel about their own land, culture and/or nation. We are not proud of anything we posses because of people like Mrs Thapar. If people like her got any guts, let them use the same language against any other religion in their own land. They can't. Mr Malhotra is not asking anything extra ordinary. He has been saying that whatever this lady has been lecturing is nothing but distortions. To prove his point, he is asking her to discuss with him on a public platform, that's all. On the same platform, she can also question him on his opinions and books. It's the same level field. Nothing wrong in it, infact right thing to do.

Still I would like to express few of my thoughts, restraining using any filthy words like you, and then stop. At my home, I pray to Lord Ganesha, my mother offers paryers to Lord Balaji and likewise everyone is different. This is Hindu culture, even in the same family, there is democracy, there is diversity. That is how India is alive through unity in diversity. That is Hindu culture. Once this is forgotten, this country will vanish out of the earth. Request all to read ramesh chandra majumdar ...... If you can't find the books read on archives.org. Romila thapar is at best a, "shobha de among historians"!
Why do you call them (Irfan Habib, DN Jha, Romila Thapar, RN Sharma, Hrbans Mukhia, etc ) LEFT? They are not LEFT, they repeat the British and Pakistani views on Indian history. Dr. Rossiter in her PhD thesis in the University of Texas exposed them. Do they quote Marx or Lenin? They do not. What Marx wrote is much more anti-Muslim than what Bajrang Dal writes.
What tradition you people are talking about?...It’s true that the concept of Nationalism is very new in the world and it came from Europe. The Indian Nationalism itself was contributed by British rule. All knows till then all we had scattered princely states fighting each other. When British rule gathered these lands together to form a country, its them who defined that the prehistoric India has a Hindu based culture and called the people Hindus They had to address the remaining (people other than Christians and Muslims) somehow and they chose Hindu. The common people here were so illiterate to think and understand the complex thought provoking Sanskrit shlokas and they were not allowed too...If you talk on culture and tradition, then you must consider it from the beginning of the mankind. The species originated in Africa, traveled through Asia for ages and spread across the world....we need to consider and be proud on all that culture and traditions behind that is accumulated into our genes enabling us to be where we are now and ask questions on the past!. Not just simply on words like Hinduism and Indian culture...etc. And it’s very complex. It will hold the culture and traditions of animals, tribes, clans, slaves, devadasi, nagas, snake charmers, pirates, burglars, criminals, chandals…etc. Not just the Mantra reciting saints and Gods. Remember it’s the so called Hindu culture and traditions observed and allowed the rituals like “Sati” and “Bali” for centuries. Would you be proud to say that this is how people lived in that great tradition or life style or Dharma whatever- called Hindu and you and your family a part of it? Now, it’s not yet the time to conclude that the Aryan invasion is a complete sham
he said Indian nationalism emerged due to British colonization. However the name India was always given by an outsider. eg: Land on the other side of Indus river.
So you want to say that Hinduism does not deserve any place in history ? And sati, Bali were practises that were region based and not followed by all classes and all sects. We know how to reject the bad and retain the good. So yes, I am proud to be a Hindu , and I am not ashamed of what happened in the past because I had nothing to do with it , I simply reject it as evil and oppose it.
Sati was only practiced in rajasthan and Bengal during muslim rule cuz they used to rape dead bodies of women.there have been around 8-11 mass sati(jauhar) in rajasthan Alone and one or two (maybe more) in Bengal.sati word started with shivji's wife godess sati. And we don't have any solid proof or this being practiced in ancient times.sacrifce was done everywhere. However indians decided to drop this practice and we can't say hindusim is a religion.it is more of umbrella term for every major and minor regional beliefs.for example, in shavism they worship Shiv ji (most ancient known deity ,from afgan to Sri Lanka, probably in middle east as some claim but i can't really say about that) We have found a 8k, years old shivlingam.and maybe it is way older than date ,in vaishnav they worship Shri Vishnu, in brahmanism is almost extinct, very few people worship brahma, in south (Kerala) they got ayyapa, vedanta have their own beliefs, then there's shaktism .in northern India, many clans worship their ancestors (one particular ancestor which appears in some elder's dream and tells them to built a shrine for them or smt, it's kind of like Japanese beliefs but not fo ancestors),then there's tribals deities.so we can't really say hindusim is a religion.it have more to do with rules of the land.like how most of people were sheaphards and Shri Krishna loved cows,so whole of India ,more or less consider cows as respectable animal.sure they don't treat them like some divine being (most of us don't) and this is why we see cows roaming on streets, except Tamil Nadu, some areas (or maybe all) do eat cows.idk if that's traditional or recent thing.it is also clear that kings like khilji ,in order to insults indians, butchered cows and used their skin and head like crown and cape and mocked locals by dragging them.anything for disrespecting non muslims (he was new in the region ,so everyone was non muslim, later they forced and raped and veryy few (literally very few) people joined muslims kings for a post in their courts. And we can't even say we have been ruled, cuz every modern nation was more of less invaded.what matters is if they took their kingdom back even humayun spent most of his life running ,how come he is considered a king? He only spent last 2-3 years as a crown king.and after bin Qasim,no middle eastern king dared to cross Sindh for next 300 years.and those kings were politically backed and religiously supported by their ummah cuz they can always say they doing it for Islam and simply kill people. Britishers took most states from hindus rulers, and during union of India, most rulers were hindu only it is only due to massacres, states were given to pak and Bangladesh cuz people migrated.if full fledged war would happen, according to population ,less than 5% non dharmic people would have been left .that too cuz of mercy which dharmic people showed during partition.we literally agreed to give our land to people who thought they were too cool to live in a democracy and a tolerance and multicultured nation.they choose religion over their neighbours and family, more than 85% agreed to form Pakistan, yet less than 60% went to Pakistan.why? If they would have agreed to simply not vote ,we would have been a big nation,we won't be having china factor simply cuz we would be one nation ,china can't make corridor, can't put pressure on Bangladesh, can't threaten us by 25km territory in Bangladesh and Nepal border which is now our weak point .there wouldn't be blood shed only if those people who are currently living in India didn't supported pro Pakistani party.who else can u blame? Christians didn't demanded diff nation ,Jains didn't,tribals didn't,jews didn't,zororastrians didn't.no one else.but them.how can we agree that the history we are taught is right, when all the other nations who were controlled by Islamic rule don't have any of their past civilization left ,it is totally controlled by religion.what is better? a single strict rule for all which don't care what u personally feel about your clothing or sexuality or a flexible belief system which is amended according to era's need? Ask yourself that.are we homophobic? Or are we transphobic? Did we asked women to cover their body or not to speak .like what they say in Bible or Qur'an.(not bashing religions here but simply saying what is written) .our women didn't wore corsets around their waist which Victoria women had to look attractive.neither our women wore veil before it started in rajasthan during muslim rule cuz rajputs didn't wanted anyone keeping a bad eye on their women.rajasthani women are so beautiful , specially rajput princesses.and they choose death over being enslaved.they named their mountain hindu kush , literally meaning place where hindu died cuz they were dragged bare foot ,empty stomach and stones cutting their sole for thousands of kms.if we are uncivilized ,then tell me who is civilized? Those who killed their philosophers cuz they didn't believed in flat earth or those Greek mathematicians and physics experts who had different point of view than locally accepted beliefs?
