Speaker: Robert D. Mowry, Alan J. Dworsky Curator of Chinese Art Emeritus, Harvard Art Museums, Senior Consultant in Chinese and Korean Art, Christie’s
Korea has a long and distinguished history of making sophisticated high-fired ceramics. This lecture will survey Korean ceramics from the 10th through the 19th century, focusing on the classic celadons of the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392) and the delicate porcelains and rustic buncheong wares of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910). The lecture will emphasize uniquely Korean innovations and explore relationships between Korean ceramics and Chinese ceramics, as well as relationships between Korean ceramics and works of art in other media.
This lecture was recorded on August 3, 2017 in the Whitsell Auditorium at Portland Art Museum.

In 1963, very respectable first Premier of China ZHOU ENLAI, he said with written proof “GOJOSEON, BUYEO, and BALHAE are Korean History”.

I was a bit shocked that the speaker just shortened, or should I say, skipped more than 2000 years long history of Korea. That is not just a number, you american dude. Just to correct, the first ancient approved history in Korea starts at least from about BC 2333.

Korean’ ancient history of Go-Jo-Seon, Booyeo, and Balhae are omitted in this lecture though….

the only reason i put holes in my pot is becase i know how my kiln breathes. i can control the airflow within the kiln once the kiln has been fired by when loading the kiln, placing wares of different shapes on a shelf within the kiln. also if i want the interior of the foot to be reduced and the shelf is new and VERY flat and the ware is very heavy, the underside of the foot would be less reduced, but if i want to have the interior of the foot reduced, i carve holes into the foot to ensure that part of the pot can provide to the reduction atmosphere of the kiln.

I would love to do a week retreat to learn about Korean art, but it's so hard to block off that much time, especially for a large group to coordinate it

Korean history 5000 years old, Korean history was distorted during the Japanese occupation. 1) GoJoseon. 2) Buyeo 3)Goguyeo / Bakjae/ Silla / Goya 4)Balhae 5) Goyeo 6) Joseon Since 2003-2007 Chinese had projects call “Northern Project”. Purpose was to change Korean/Mongolian history to Chinese History. Now, Chinese are trying to changing Korean CULTURES to Chinese, such as Kimchi, Hanbok so on. Its part of Chinese project, not fact but Its Projects. China is communist country, against gov. Is not allow. and they try to take over the Asia. Japan will be next!!! Can not talk about Korean history without GoJoseon, its the foundation...

Let me ask you a simple question: Without classic Chinese language, how can you Korean learn about your history? Civilization was built on written words. When you Korean have your own writing system? How many years you used Chinese to write your history? Korea was simply one of the vassal countries of ancient China.

@@liangbaoge and china abandoned their rich history when they adopted communism... kek. and to answer your question, there would have been a different writing system they would have adopted even if chinese weren't there. and obv chinese writing system did not fit the korean language so they invented their own writing system. chinese language is so primitive and archaic that you can't even type anything without the assistance of the roman alphabets. lelelelel. free uyghers/tibet/hong kong and every other states that wants nothing to do with one china bullshit ideaology :D o and fuck u with your covid.
