5 million dollars from 1975, would be worth 21.7 million dollars today (yes I'm sad enough to calculate this). Just for anyone out there who was curious
@richardoneill4314
@richardoneill4314 5 лет назад
Leon Davies well if it's 21m odd then Fischer must have lost his thinking cap back around 1975 Even if he had lost he would still have picked up a decent amount which would have set him up for life So can't understand why he didn't play Principle on his demands is one thing but he could easily have met them in the middle if he wanted to but he did not Maybe he was already not feeling well in 1975 and he gradually got worse even though we all agree he was a genius and chess was not the same after Bobby in 1972 he could have done so much more with the right management behind him What a great pity

This is not a difficult calculation to do: 5m*(1+inflation rate)^years. I work in finance. Nothing boring about this if you have any type of retirement account or loans.
@MrSupernova111
@MrSupernova111 3 года назад
@JediNxf7 . I see where you're going but not true. You can do a CAGR calculation which is a simple formula and will give you exact average inflation rate over said period. All you need are starting and ending values and period length.
@MrSupernova111
@MrSupernova111 3 года назад
@JediNxf7 . I don't know why you're losing your marbles over this. inflation is just an estimate and clearly there is not precise answer as goods and services included in CPI reports change over time so you'll never have an apples to apples comparison. There are far too many factors to consider so for this reason we only use a CPI and starting and ending value with a CAGR formula. Land for example is not part of CPI but we could argue it has a huge impact on consumer spending or disposable income. Unless, you're doing academic level economic or statistical analysis you're starting to sound like a jackass. I have a degree in finance with a minor statistics so refrain from more needless lessons.
@MrSupernova111
@MrSupernova111 3 года назад
@JediNxf7 . It wouldn't kill you to accept that for casual purposes we don't need to analyse the validity of CPI reports along with other economic data for something like this. I'm amazed that you've taken this conversation so far out of context.

Yes, Fischer using "Alekhine's gun" (18:18) is the correct generalization. But, why did Bobby specifically adapt it for such a crucial Ruy Lopez (gm. 1), after a 20 yr. layoff? Anybody? Well, Bobby felt Korchnoi would be his most dangerous opponent in such a match. He was as honest as his memory was prodigious. Bobby told me he'd once saved a lost game in Curacao, 1962 (Rd. 12) vs. Victor, who blundered away a clear win (move 32) yet, Bobby had so admired Korchnoi's ingenuity (using "Alekhine's gun") in an analogous position, he decided to try it on move 24 in this game...3 decades later! It is ironic that the 2 Soviet GM's Fischer felt were their best, most creative virtuosi, Boris & Victor, had to flee the USSR to asylum in France. Just FYI... Ciao, JC (1st Cor 15:51-3)

it does mr supersmart. kasparov lost his world champion title to anand because he was already best at anything: highest elo rating in history and WC. after having achieved all this, he lacked energy and egoic goals to keep his title. that is why he lost; and i mean we're talking a bout a way smaller time span than in the case of Bobby. this perfect harmonious game of fischer's is really irritating after 20 years of no professional chess practice. u simply lack the drive to prepare as much as u could otherwisely do.
@GymChess
@GymChess 10 лет назад
What in the world are you talking about? I can hardly make out what you're trying to get across. First of all Kasparov never lost a world championship against Anand. It was against Kramnik in 2000, Mr. Supersmart. Before you try to insult somebody, at least get your facts straight.

Instead of "Nh7", if Boris wants to play f5, why not play Re7, Ne8, or Kh8, Ng8, Rf8 where he could then play Ne7 bringing his knight in the game, such as after exf5 Nxf5, or after exf5 gxf5. For example, one idea might be Rf8, Bh8, Ng7, and then after f5, you have: 1.exf5 gxf5 and then either 2. Nxf5 Nxf5 with ideas of maybe Nh4, so in case of Nxh4 you have Qxh4 which already looks dangerous, but then you can follow with ideas like Rf7, Nf8 and Bc8 with all kinds of threats, or Nf6, Re8, Bc8, with the idea of e4 and Nh4 Be8, or Nxe4, Be5

Bobby was playing OK, but got some >gifts< from Spassky, like move 19... Nh7 which are not accepted among nowadays top GMs." I have read somewhere that Kasparov evaluated Fischer`s play as 2600-2650". I personally agree with Karpov :)

this video could have been useful if, instead of showing a static board with no analysis, you had shown Yasser pointing out his analysis in the classroom. As it is, I recommend taking the video down as all it does is lessen the brand of the SLCCl. Love Yasser and his analysis, but this video just does not measure up to the quality of this channel.

It's because Yas didn't know how to use the computer well, so instead of highlighting things on the board and drawing arrows, he has to just point at the projection. He did end up learning how to use the computer, but there were some bumps in the road where he would screw up the board and couldn't figure out how to get back to the position in the game.

Oh dear. Please do not glorify Fischer. While in my opinion he is the best player ever. But long before anyone is a chessplayer he is a human being. So please recognise his chess brilliance but do not ever confuse that with his mental issues. To be clear 'Fischer is great' is not best practice because some people think 'Fischer is great' where the message should be 'Fischer's play is great'.
