LED Doesn’t Stand A Chance Against This Type Of Bulb!!

Here's Exactly Why HALOGEN Beats LED!!
In this video I go over reasons why I am removing my LED headlights and re-installing halogen bulbs. I show up-close views of both options including before and after.
Personally, one of the main reasons why I chose halogen over LED is the look. I love the look of a tungsten colored bulb. I feel the light quality is excellent and more cinematic even if it is a bit more dim. But, you'll see in this video, LED may not be so much more bright after all!

Honestly, with how the halogens emit light, you would expect halogens to have a broader pattern, but they really don't. Yes, you do get that hot spot in front of the vehicle which is great when you're about to hit something, but with LED you can see whatever it is before you're committed to hitting it. That being said, the halogen's tendency to put light directly in front whilst offering very little in the way of peripheral vision isn't necessarily a bad thing, particularly when used as a high beam globe in conjunction with an LED low. In my daily rig I have H4 LED high/low and H7 halogen high beams, and on a dark highway I'm yet to see anything that works better as it works on the strength of both, and in my opinion it outclasses some lightbars. Another thing I like about LED highs is that they have no heat up time, so if someone flashes you out of headlight envy you can simply hit them back right on the retinas as their eye has no chance to react

What's funny to me is that he's discounting two things: the first being that you can get LEDs that are round and cast in all directions, and secondly that you're not limited to just that blue-white ("daylight") color. Oh, and of course, your hi-beams aren't going to be brighter if they're the same power output as your lo-beams (which I think is where he messed up, but can't be sure, because he doesn't go into that).

Holy crap... There are so many issues with this vid. You can have a bias all you want, but don't pretend that Halogen Bulbs are in any way superior to Quality LED bulbs. If you actually care for the Halogen Look but want mechanical superiority, they make LEDs that mimic that temperature of light, because, that's how they work. You are downgrading your lighting, increasing your power consumption, lowering the lifespan of your housings, and ignoring entirely the science behind how the housings are designed to reflect and project light.

I gotta agree with the LED Afficionados here. LEDs , in my opinion, are far better than halogen bulbs. Although you are correct Jimmy that the LEDs have only 2 sides that emit light, there is a trick in installing it to produce a better illumination output. What I did with my LED headlights was I slowly rotate it while it is turned on & projecting on a wall about 20 meters away. By doing so I can adjust the proper angle of my LEDs making it project its light on the road rather than have them project in a spreading way where it can really be annoying and even hazardous to incoming vehicles. Also, try using a yellow-green colored LED headlights. For me it is better that the white ones. Hope this helps.
@pnweezy
@pnweezy 3 года назад
Led are designed for a projectors headlights. If you have a reflector headlights jus use the re halogen bulbs. Because it's blinding everyone on the road if LED use in reflector headlights housing. Plus halogens illuminates better than led bulbs. LEDs need something lighter colors to reflect off of on the road. For example if it's raining, LEDs you can't really see the road. The asphalt became so dark that led can't even illuminates the road. Remember folks the roads are made up of asphalt in majority of the roads and highway. I finally found someone like you tested out the difference between halogens and leds and pointed out what's is brighter on the roads. More drivers are complaining about LEDs are blinding them at night while driving and expert weigh in and saying that LED are getting too bright and causes blindness to drivers. LED is just all the hypes in some cases and creating so much glares and it takes some times for the eyes to adjust after exposing to it from some vehicles that wrongly install it in the wrong headlamp housings. I have LEDs installed on my vehicles which have the projector housing headlamps and I agreed with Road1 on the difference situations and where LED should be installed.

@aaronpowell4885

Yes, a housing designed around halogen bulbs is almost always going to have better beam quality with halogen than with LEDs. I know, here comes the hate. I'm a pretty big fan of properly aimed, quality HID bulbs in vehicles originally equipped with halogen bulbs, because they emit light in an almost identical location and nearly 360 degrees. My 90 c1500 has 4300k 35w hid's in low beams, 5000k 35w highs and 4-hi mod. 91 accord wagon has halogens. 01 Silverado has 5500k led's in both lows and highs with 4-hi mod. All 3 vehicles take 9006 low and 9005 high. Imo... I prefer the halogen color temperature, seems easier on the eyes on long night drives. Love the efficiency and reliability of led's but not the best control of output in halogen reflector housings and much harsher light. Have had the 4300k hid's in my c1500 for 5+ years and feel they're the best compromise in my situation between color and usable output.
@Johnnygga
@Johnnygga 3 года назад
Even then the HID bulbs don’t work correctly in a halogen housing even if it emits light in “360”. The main focus of the halogen bulb is the filament glowing hot from the center outwards. The main focus of an HID bulb are the tips of the arc inside the bulb. So it seems like it’s brighter and better with an HID kit but it’s actually worse because it kills your distance lighting because it essentially becomes a floodlight in front of your car. Sure the road in front of your car is bright but that’s not how it’s supposed to work. Your eyes will get stressed trying to focus on things far away with a bright ass spotlight in front of your vision lol I used to be an HID kit head, but as I’ve grown older I’ve changed my ways and decided that blinding others and also myself was a dumb idea. Even with halogen projectors.

Thumbs up for the video. There are many factors in play. Color is a big deal and can be perceived differently. Typically, 4,500ish is the best and the halogen are cooler while the LED are higher. The better halogen are better than lower quality LED. The best LED are the best but you're looking for a look. Better LED do have good output but how do they affect people coming towards you? I personally stuck with the traditional halogen but higher quality on my suburban because I love the stock look. I don't really like the LED look on those OBS Chevys... The only thing I did use LED on is my reverse back up lights... But even now I'm thinking about going stock

😂 I’m thinking about going back to the incandescent reverse lights too. I think Sylvania makes a Silverstar back up incandescent so I may try those. Have you reversed with LED lights in the rain yet? They almost disappear lol
@jamesm568
@jamesm568 3 года назад
If you convert everything over to LED it actually looks stock but brighter. As for a reverse LED nothing is brighter than a excessively bright LED with the same output as a 300 watt inconsistent bulb.

You can go with leds for all the other lights.....brakes, turn signal...ect

Me personally like the LED lights better, but only for the low beams. The high beams I like the halogen. LEDs are great, but I think their short fall is distance. LEDs scatter light more randomly, especially on light housings that are ment for halogens. That's why I still rock the HID (xenons) in my truck, kind of the best of both worlds in my opinion, and my halogen housings are plenty big so the lights don't melt them.

If you buy special halogen bulbs such as Osram night breaker, they light up brighter but last much shorter or less hours. You can not have more watts so they put in another gas so the light thread shines brighter and breaks faster. All light bulbs that shine brighter than the standard bulb do have less operating hours

I put LEDs on both my 94 burban and 95 Sierra. Except I compensated for the dumb parabola headlight design with a four way LED. Instead of only emitting on two sides it emits on four. Thus eliminating that "blind" spot your LEDs have. However you also need to align the LEDs to the housing to get the best throw. In your case that LED would need to be vertical to the housing so that the light shines to the left and right and reflects forward. You have to remember these headlights have dead spots on top and bottom. It's a parabola not dish shaped reflector.

You should get HIDs. You can get them in a warmer color and they use a lot less power and heat. Plus a lot brighter too.

I would go with HID's, as i have put in my 99 Toyota Avalon over 5 years ago. HID's will give a more focused look!

Try the Sylvania Xenon white ZXE halogen bulbs if want a whiter light from your halogen bulb. They are white and they are still halogens. I run them on my 2006 Crown Vic and they are a definite upgrade over standard halogens without going the Chinesium LED route.

LED. does not light in all directions and does not withstand as much heat as ordinary light bulbs do. White with blue has never been pretty !! Natural white 4000k or 3000K is nice! Stupid almost everyone only sells 5000k - 6000K LED. to car. 3000K or 4000K is nice collor! There are flat LED bulbs that shine in almost all directions but you do not get a 10w or 50w bulb into the front light! you can buy new lamps made with LED bulb!

Sorry Jimmy, I respectfully gotta disagree on this one. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. LEDs looked sick on the 95 and I’m not convinced the other bulbs looked/functioned better. Just my 2cents 🤷‍♂️

the reason why it doesn’t seem as bright is because that’s 6000k white, as the color temperature goes towards 6k it’s less visible even if it’s brighter as far as lumens. the sun is right between 5-5500k and it’s over the course of thousands of years its what our eye sight sees best in and the same for darker red or infared spectrum. so 1500 lumens at 5000k pure white will be much brighter and visible than 6000k cool white. and for this reason HID projector headlights are best. i’ll actually be doing a video on this soon!

As long as there is a reflector in the headlight housing a regular 2 sided Led Bulb will normally always be better than a Halogen Bulb. There is a company called Auxbeam that makes headlight Led Bulbs that has 3 sides which would be closer to a Halogen Bulb as far as 360 degrees of light output. If that type of Led Bulb is used in a reflector housing it definitely would be better than a Halogen Bulb in light output. Led Bulbs come in different color/temp ratings so if you don't like the pure white you can just go for a warmer rating.

I have a 2000 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder. I use led light bulbs. They are from Oracle Lighting. They are 17 watts per bulb. They are also DRL'S. They make the Camry look modern which I like. All of the Camry is led except for the dashboard, heat and air conditioning switches, console, and glove box. That will be changed over too. The color I use is Cool White because the Camry is a silver type color. No more halogen bulbs for me. The halogen bulbs look good on your vehicle though. This is just my opinion

I’ve never seen anybody go back from LED to halogen? If you’re ever out and the alternator starts going out, you will wish you had those LED’s to get ya a lil farther down the road if your battery is in ok shape. You just moved to Tennessee, the wild life at night is pretty heavy. I would have kept those LED’s 100%.

You were all excited when you installed the l.e.ds. And everything you said in this video about them was totally opposite of what you said in the video where you installed them. I'm not opposed to changing things up once in a while but when you contradict yourself, something just doesn't seem right.

I could see his point driving in the city maybe where there's plenty of ambient light but when you're out in the country or places where there is no artificial light LEDs everytime. especially your backup lights. my LED backup lights are better than my headlights. I completely changed out my 2003 Silverado 2500 HD to LEDs about 5 years ago. never going back. they are three times better and I did not spend a lot of money they were all pretty cheap off of Amazon and they have all performed flawlessly

Here's my 2 cents. LEDs imo are better for longevity. You can get the old school orange style LEDs if you like the look. Also in projection headlights, that's when LEDs really...shine... (Sorry for the pun)
