I absolutely loved this video! I scuba dive and am about to begin my journey into underwater photography and with minimal light underwater this is a very frugal way to increase the lighting.

Thanks for your video. Based off this and another I made a pair of these lights with some changes to be used to set out and stand themselves up vertically using 1.5" pvc, with the cord coming in from the side of the bottom end, lead weights in the bottom, filled with insulating foam, all sealed up but just in case of any future leaks. I also covered the outside, esp over the LEDs and holes for wiring, with a clear plastic shrink wrap for a little extra protection from leaking or damage to the LED strip while also holding it in place even more than added adhesive. Mine are designed to set out and fish from a dock or shore rather hang down, with enough weight in the end that they will sink but stand up.

We used to hang a lantern over the side just above the water to attract the baitfish . is there any difference in the color of light if so why meaning does a blue light attract a fish better than White lake versus red light and so on. Thanks
@FishinNStuff
@FishinNStuff 5 лет назад
I use red out of the water if you dont want to kill your night vision, ppl use blue lights in the ocean they say it penetrates the water better , in fresh water I think green works better for plankton I'm not sure why but I have white lights that work very well too . But most fresh water lakes have algae in them so the white lights put off a green hue any way , I made my DIY light green because that seems to be the most popular color for fresh water but I've used white more myself . I dont think you can go wrong with white or green , but striped bass fishermen have told me that white distresses the fish more than blue or green so it makes sense to use green I guess . I'm not a scientist though haha , I appreciate you watching brother . If you ever have anything to add to a subject feel welcome to leave a comment, thank you for watching buddy

Great Video. The LED strip light you used from amazon is rated as IP65 for its waterproof rating meaning basically its rain proof and not for submersion. The submersible standard is IP68 which has two coverings to make sure the LED are waterproof and are designed for submersion. How has your light lasted? Have you used it many times? Thanks for the straight forward video

Good job and instructions. Just wondering do you have a video on how you made 1st light? It looked like it had been wired with a 3 prong 110v or can you make a video like that for all us pier fishers that have access to electric while shrimping and fishing it would be great to see something with a fail-safe like a trip in case some water got into it.

You can use clear fluorescent light bulb protectors instead of polypropylene tubing. the larger diameter bulb protectors will fit 1-1/4" PVC fittings. You can get a long clear light protector at lowes for $3.00 (cut to length).

@FishinNStuff 5 лет назад

HARGAR Plays just be careful not to drop them below 15ft. The water pressure below 15ft will cause them to start cracking longways from end to end. I’ve started using 1-1/4” clear vinyl tubing. Not the braided type, just clear. Home Depot sells precut 3ft for $7.00. The 1-1/2” pvc sch40 caps fit perfectly over the outside of tube. Seal with heavy duty grade pvc cement and seal outer rim with Marine plastic epoxy.

There is really no reason for all the silicone, if you heat shrink the wires they won't corrode. Also just drill several 1/4 holes in each end to allow it to fill with water, it will only take a few ounces of lead to make it suspend vertically. Nothing wrong with your method, this is just cheaper. Thanks for your idea and links!
@FishinNStuff
@FishinNStuff 5 лет назад
Your exactly right man you don't need the silicon I once used it so the lead weights wouldn't rattle around and I didnt need it so I just put it all in there lol , I did use heat shrink though , I was just over killing it because I made it for a buddy , but for idea is cheaper . That's why I didn't use an outside cover . Is cheaper and not really any point in it

I would say after making it 6 to 8 is plenty to keep the bottom on the bottom . The silicone adds a Good bit of weight to it . I just didn't want it to float like the first one I made . I hook it to a cleat at the depth I want it

I know this is an oldie, but goody RU-vid, but it was exactly what I needed to see. I've watch other submersible fishin light vids, but yours was the most instructive and didn't waste a ton of time getting to the end product. Many of the others vids crammed 5 mins of useful info into a 20 minute video...AAAAARRRRGGG! Gonna make one to take out in San Diego Bay at night (while hoop netting for spiney lobsters) to help replenish my bait supply of fresh mackerel...while the hoop nets "soak". If U R ever in San Diego, would love to hook up to share some great fresh and saltwater fishin adventures. Thx for a terrific RU-vid channel!

I do the same thing lol it might work man , I just left out the clear tube because the last one I bought 3 years ago was like 10 or 12 dollars and it really does work just as good without it as long as you stop water from getting to the wires and causing corrosion issues the light has a silicone type coating on it when you buy it

Fishin N Stuff awesome. One more question. Does the weights make the light stand up vertically? I thought about adding pieces of pool noodle to mine to make it stand vertically. Are those not needed?
@FishinNStuff
@FishinNStuff 4 года назад
@@chanceehuiet if you don't add the weights the first one i made floated on its side so I learned to weight the bottom so it stands up , I add a lot of weight so mine will stand up and sink . Because it i want it at the top of the water I can do it or if I want it 3 foot under the water I can do that too . If you want it to float and stand up add the weights and a pool noodle . But with just a pool noodle I don't think itll float correctly. I usually put mine about 2 foot deep then tie it to my cleat
@chanceehuiet
@chanceehuiet 4 года назад
Yeah my plan was to add 6 ounces like you did in silicon on the bottom then a piece of pool noodle on top. I added an eye bolt and some paracord with a crab trab float so I can adjust how deep I want to put it and get it out away from the boat some.
