The new Mini Maglite LED versions are pretty impressive. I have a Mini Mag LED Pro and it puts out 232 lumens on high power which is pretty damn bright for AA batteries. It lasts much longer than the old, dim incandescent xenon bulbs that only stay bright for a short while. The LED stays bright right up until before it dies. I have several old style Minis that I plan to convert to LED in the future. Even my big 3 D cell Mag I bought back in 1981 has kept running strong all these years, it too will get an LED upgrade soon. Thanks to this new LED Mini, I have renewed my loyalty to Maglite and want to continue supporting American manufactures. I think Maglite is the only flashlight you can buy now that's still Made in USA.

Yes they still sell regular bulbed flashlights at a significant reduced price point. But they have ( Finally ) Embraced the LED craze with some very impressive little power houses. The XL series is a new design with a push button in the back that has a minimal of 104 lumen for the base 50 and much higher for the 200 series. The Mini Mag's also have 4 flavors now. Base 14 lumen bulb, 77 lumen LED, then the Pro and Pro plus with over 200 lumen. So they are catching up, and are still quality.

Exactly. Given that Maglite still sells this model (Mini/Solitaire) in a similar price range as the LED Lenser P2/P3 models, the comparison is fair, regardless of the antiquated technology. The fact that Maglite still persist with this model is an embarrassment.

NOT a fair comparison, as many have already said but i think you should listen. A led lenser is a tactical flashlight, it is DESIGNED to be bright and have a far throw, where as a Maglite (I emphasise SOLITAIRE not mini Mag!) is not, it's a keyring torch, a novelty item more than a reliable light. a better comparison would be against a Fenix or a Surefire torch, not a 15 year old, incandescent keyring flashlight!

That is actually a Mini Mag Solitare not the regular Mini Maglite. Though the regular bulbed version of the Mini Mag would not be much brighter at 14 lumen. Picked up a new Mini Mag LED that's the 77 Lumen version which on the lower power setting can run for 30+ hours but only 8 on the high. Nice to be able to pick battery life vs extra power. And yes, twisting the cap is a pain for a on/off switch.

As pointed out by others, that's a Mag-Lite Solitaire, and it's rated for 3 lumens.

Also, LED Lenser produces the P3 AFS P, rated at a whopping 75 lumens powered somehow by a single AAA. Same exact form factor as the P3 BM as far as I can tell.

1080p in 2009! that must have been an expensive camera in the day. they all are great torches. the led lenser p4 is hard to find where i live.

@40CALGLOCKMAN ive owned all types of flashlights and coast led lenser flashlights have some of the highest quality ive seen there very good lights and outperform alot of the higher competition but the main reason i ever bought one was because its german and i have never had any problems out of german products quality from what i can tell there german designed but made in a factory in china with very high qualification meetings i belive coast is just the american distributor of them

would the P4 be a good edc whilst being carried in a leatherman sheath/ pouch or is it a little too big i.e sticking up over the top and bottom?

I was just looking at the Australian led lenser website and it rates the P4 at 20 lumens for 3.5 hours. That seems like a large difference from 14 lumens and 96 hours. Could anyone explain this anomaly?

@JFTim7 Can the P3 take a lithium 14500 battery ? A 3.7V one or it will fry the emitter ? Also is that regulated ? LED LENSER seems to made only not regulated flashlights...

Can you compare the led lenser m5 vs the fenix pd32? I don't know with to buy.

I got a torch free off my girlfreind dad, im not sure wat model it is? i think it could be a fake but its still bright my eye feels like i have been looking at a welder. it says led lenser and takes 3 C batteries, it also had an orange cone on it. it measures 10 and a half inches long and about 1 1/2 inch lens. anyone know what model it is?

Not really a fair test - Firstly, that's NOT a Mini Maglite, it's a Maglite Solitaire. The LED Lenser is an LED torch, where the Solitaire is incandescent. You can pick up the Solitaire's for less than half the price of the Lenser P3. These torches aren't in the same league. I'd have loved to have seen a side by side of the Lenser against the MiniMag LED, as I'm sure the Lenser would win hands down, while being smaller and cheaper..

It is not honest to compare two led lights with a normal flashlight. The Maglite trades led lights also! Visit the maglite.com I don't want to stand up for the Maglite (although it is verified quality) but this is not a good ground of comparison.

Mag's are out of date designs. They dropped the ball big time and are no longer competitive with the likes of Fenix and LED Lenser. They should have embraced LED and CREE bulbs when they first came out instead of trailing behind and STILL selling old fashioned bulb type torches to the unsuspecting public. Frankly the CEO of the company should be flogged and fired as they used to be a great company.
