It was rushed. They had rented a mobile studio and came up against a hard schedule deadline. Page had something like a weekend to finish all the lead overdubs. So he spent half the time perfecting Achilles Last Stand and the other half on all the other songs combined. Some say it shows, some like his "frantic" style on several of the other solos.
This one is played or recorded too fast. But yes, great. Maybe there is a non-fast video somewhere. Seatle 77 is the right speed. The 1980 Frankfurt or Bremmen "Achille's" are best
@@Frip36 IMO it's perfect - live versions are almost always faster. Here, the energy and chemistry is classic Zep (which is to say literally unmatched) though the guitar solo doesn't quite work great for me - perhaps it's the recording. The drums, esp. dat bass drum the first ~45 sec, is also unmatched.
Jimmy plays this teetering on the edge of "sloppy and simplified," but it works like magic with Bonzo going perfectly ALL OVER the place. I wish I knew to buy tickets when I was four...
I saw Zeppelin about 5 weeks later in Oakland, last show ever in the US. 15 years old and still remember it. ✌️🤪🎸🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶 Just listened to this again 3 months later in March of 2022 and Jimmy’s killing it!
@@dyermaker4731 no lol I was kicked out of a Ritchie Blackmore concert at the Shrine in LA for sneaking down front and taking pictures, so I learned . But I do have my original news page from the LA times for The Song Remains The Same movie when it came out!
Bless you, like Hendrix , who I did see live In Denver musicians from top self era of rock and perfection. Fusion of blues and rock never been better. Bonham a beast on drums , Zeppelin forever!!! 💘 those Guys !!!
Got arrested in 77' here at the arena in San Diego. Possession of alcohol by a minor. Spent all night in jail. I was one of 56 people arrested that night. Ah.... Zeppelin in the 70's
This is very good but maybe their best performance of this song ever came just two nights later on 6/23. There are no soundboard recordings of it available though. The clarity of this recording really let's John Paul Jones shine on his Alembic. But find the 6/23 version - For Badgeholders Only. The No Quarter Solo is fricken epic too! I think I may have posted that here years ago on my channel.
I’m a Zeppelin fan for sure and I think that Zeppelin’s latter 70’s and early 80’s shows suffered due to Page’s heroin addiction. Which is something that I think they’ve acknowledged themselves. Still some of the shows they did had some redeeming times
Who is Richard? You mean John Paul Jones? I know that was what he went by in Zeppelin. Is Richard his legal name? I love them, but wasn't much into their personal lifes.
Saw The Firm in Atlanta...he was absolutely smashed. Fkd up White Summer/BMS so bad he just threw his hands up, got off the chair and walked backstage. I was so disappointed . They killed Lost that Lovin feeling and midnight moonlight. Otherwise a drunkfest.Tony Franklin on bass was AMAZING...fretless
Thanks to Mike Millard, Ed Finnel, Barry Wondall known as Badge holders bootleggers snuck the Nakamichi tape recorder, Siehniser mics,18 reels of 8mm tapes n the a wheel chair. True story.
@@dyermaker4731 No. I those days it would be unusual to bring a camera. They would stop you from brining in flash cameras and recording equipment. I was very fortunate to see this show as this tour was later cancelled due to the death of Plant's son.

That’s Jones on the rhythm section with his bass I just commented to someonelse who didn’t include how good Jones was on this. Rarely do you hear the bass do the rhythm section but this is such a guitar driven song so Jones is playing the rhythm guitar section with bass
What's amazing is just 2 nights before this at San Diego, Bonham was having a very off night: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ESOonTvhNbQ.html
They can play their music as fast or as slow as they feel like it on any particular occasion!!! I think what they do is 10 times more entertaining than playing a song the exact same way every time!!! And, also, it's their business what drugs they were on, not anyone else's!!!
