Will this offer still be good on Dec 1. Love to check out the merch and support! Love your channel. Can't do it til the 1st. Keep rocking dude! I have SOOOOO many suggestions of rock music guaranteed to entertain. Plus I am trying to help school your son. Lol. G&R is so not better then zeppelin!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
NEW to your channel.. the heart stairway video.. didn't know if u knew John Bonzo Bonham's SON is on DRUMS. That makes it special. In his daddy's "seat" as we lost Bonzo
Side note: Zep did not know Jason would be there that night. Prior to the show, they invited Jason, but he told them he had previous plans and couldn't be there. Then he showed up, and did his dad proud.
the fact that Ann's voice can be heard nice and clear over an entire choir and orchestra...while she was SICK WITH THE FLU...speaks to her legendary voice and status. Only Ann and Nancy could do this.
You got that right! There's a reason they were called the female Led Zeppelin back in the day. Plus don't forget the fact that Ann was 61 years old at this time!
Huge props to the sound tech/s during sound check getting everything dialed in so we COULD hear her over everything else without anything feeling like it was blasting or subpar.
The Bowler hat was a trademark of the late John "Bonzo" Bonham the original drummer. His son performed with the remaining members and he was performing with Heart to honor them. He kept it a secret from them, which was a total surprise to them. That's why they were crying.
@@gunhedd5375 it is. It has John Bonhams Led Zep emblem on the front, the three intertwined circles. Robert Plant, in an interview, stated that it was one of the things that made him emotional.
Yes! This performance absolutely hits me my heart so hard because it's so beautifully done. The energy going back and forth between the members of led Zeppelin and Jason and heart and you can feel their love just feeling that whole place. It's something that just so touching and beautiful and powerful to witness all at once.
Dude, i’m 57 years old and I’ve watched this performance at least 15 times since it was televised…Maybe the fact that Jason surprised them, maybe the bowler hat, maybe the rings on the drum kit,!but what an absolutely spectacular rendition of one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll songs ever created.. hats off to Ann and Nancy…🇺🇸❤️ and I’m still tearing with joy and sorrow…🤐
Maybe the greatest cover of all time. And good lord how much pressure was on the Wilson sisters to come out and do that in front of THAT crowd. If I'm honest, Ann's power is overwhelming. The kiss she blew Led Zeppelin at the end was almost like saying, I'm gangsta too boys.
In the Heart video "Alone", I feel like that Nancy's guitar playing is equal to Jimmy Page. It would be awesome to see Jimmy and Nancy do a guitar duet. I am sure we would not be disappointed.
Ann Wilson has the best female voice ever! Nancy Wilson is a master guitarist. The drummer is Jason BONHAM, John Bonham’s son. I believe that touched Led Zeppelin the most.Robert Plant was in tears.
Johns son, Jason Bonham, was on the drums for his dad!! The bowler hats they were wearing was in honor of John because he often wore them . It was very emotional to see LZ there watching on, and Robert getting a little teary eyed ripped my heart out because he and John were so close💙 This will never get old!!🎶🎸🎵🎸
Nothing to add but this: let's get some love for the lead guitarist. "Hey, we've got a gig for you. We want you to play the guitar solo in "Stairway to Heaven," at a command performance in front of the surviving members of Led Zeppelin. Oh, and by the way, the president and first lady will be there too. No pressure." 😳
Or Nancy having to play with no accompanying instruments at the beginning. So hard to do, just guitar solo and nothing else. If you F up everybody will know.
@@rollomaughfling380 Not on that night when they were accepting the "Kennedy Center Honors" Also I don't think a country can claim a band. Yes that is where they were born and started but once you start touring the world, you belong to the world.
John Bonham, Lepp's great drummer, died very early in his career and in this tribute his son, Jason, is on drums in his dad's iconic Bowler hat. The choir wearing bowlers, to ME, depicted his dad watching his son payin' a stunning tribute to him (and his Zepp-mates). The heart-thumps from Jason to his dad (er ... and his Zepp-mates) always brings a bit o' mist to these old eyes. PS ... really happy that ya enjoyed this.
@@mikeb3835 I agree that there have been some great covers from other bands but Heart is basically Zep with a female singer. They’ve said how they worshipped Zep back in the day. But good point!
When Ann hits that note after the solo, it gets me just like it gets Robert and I start crying everytime I listen. What Anne did at 62 years old was a Masters Class in singing live. If you don't feel this, you're DEAD inside..
hOOge props to those who put this stunning production together. It's THEY who let us all watch Zepp get to feel the way that we all felt when Stairway blew OUR minds. Congrats to all involved ... a genuine MASTERPIECE !!!
Yeah, I wish the arranger of it got more props. It's a very specific skill, to be able to rework a masterpiece to include choral work etc, the arrangement is out of this world good.
totally agree. The performers are incredible, but every part of this production is on point. You can analyze audibly and visually and it only enhanced and support the song. A lot of thought and effort went into this.
I know!! I've said that a million times watching this. Jimmy is so excited when it coming though & smiles so big the whole way through. He genuinely seems overjoyed and pleased by the performance. Such a gracious man....
Jason was not only wearing his dad's hat, and he was also playing his dad's drums. His dad started teaching Jason to play the drums at very young age. Ann and Nancy Wilson have been every good friends since the 60s. RIP John aka Bonzo Bonham. You are still very missed. XOXO Brandi Modrak XOXO means hugs and Kisses to you and your family.
Awe the derby hats! Makes me cry everytime too watch this video! Bonham is a legend in the drum world. And ann and Macy Wilson have long known the led zep guys! I believe they are part of the elite allowed to cover their songs. They are very particular about their music being used for anything. Spectacular tribute!
Best cover I've ever heard. Can't tell you how many times I've listened to it. So glad you did this song! The hat is a tribute to their late drummer John Bonham.
04:08 Ann's not singing lower. The original song was in A minor, Heart are doing it in A minor. It's just that instruments (like the voice) of higher *timbre* generally sound fuller in their lower *pitch* ranges. In other words, if you played the same notes on the higher register of a baritone sax it sounds thinner and more abrasive compared with the same notes on an alto sax. Same would go for 'cello vs violin, etc. People often confuse timbre with pitch-hell, even scientists often do it. This is why Karen Carpenter, once she was convinced her voice sounded better in its lower register and started cranking out hits, used to joke: "The money's in the basement."
The drummer is Jason Bonham. His dad was Led Zeppelin's Drummer John Bonham. The hats were a tribute to John, because he was famous for wearing Bowler hats like his son is wearing, for performances. A 'tip of the hat' shall we say, since we lost John in 1980.
They couldn't have had a more perfect drummer, Jason did his father proud!! The entire performance was top notch, they even made Robert Plant tear up. Great reaction to a great song by superstar performers.
The bowler hats were for their late drummer John Bonham who was known for them. The drummer on this was his son Jason, that Zeo didn't know was going to appear. That's why at the end he sent his heart out to them and (uncle) Plant did the same. Oh and bass player John Paul Jones has appeared on a few Heart recordings.
Amazing performance. One special day in rock history. I was blessed to see Heart play this in Austin. Great reaction on your part too man! Music is magic. It gets my penguin wings a goin'. ☺
This still makes me cry every time. I'm not sure you could honor them and that song any damn better than what Ann & Nancy did. They killed it. I hope you check out more Heart, I know that's a tough act to follow but I promise they're amazing!
The hat was the same type that John Bonham used to wear. It was a tribute to Bonzo. The band disband after John’s death and seeing his son on the drums and the hats he and the choir wore really touched the surviving band members.
Maybe it's because I'm so old, but I tear up every time I see this video. I've heard Heart playing Led Zeppelin live for 45 years, including Stairway, but this one is just that special.
@@tazjammer, lucky you! I'm not that old, 54. Wish I could have been born about 15 years earlier so I could have seen all my favorite bands as they were growing. Pink Floyd came around in 67 when I was born, and I would have loved to see a couple of Syd shows.
What an absolutely surreal moment that must have been. Emotions had to be off the chain. Like seeing a short movie of your life. Thank you for doing this one, Van. 💟
Kudos to Van for playing the full length version. I watched this performance the night it was originally broadcast and have seen this clip many times since. It never fails to send a chill up my spine. Seeing Robert Plant tear up is beyond words 🥺😎
The bowler hats were worn as a tribute to John Bonham (former drummer of LZ) (RIP 1980) that’s actually his son playing in this performance and when they come out wearing them, Robert Plant got very emotional….beautiful tribute
Heart covers of LZ are always amazing! They did Black Dog and Rock and Roll a lot and the young Ann Wilson singing Rock n Roll is the best version of the song you can get!
My favorite reaction you’ve ever done! I was brought to tears when I first watched this about 6 months ago. Watching their faces and seeing Jimmy Page just light up is everything!! The pride they must’ve felt for Jason Bonham on the drums for his dad. Makes me want to cry again. ❤️❤️❤️
Jimmy, John Paul and Robert's reactions are priceless and the tear in Robert's eye says it all. For Ann, Nancy and the other musicians to perform this masterpiece in the breathtaking way they did as its composers watched was beyond epic.
John Bonham was one of the greatest drummers in Rock history. The derby hat was his trademark. They quit playing after his death at the height of their greatness. He was irreplaceable.
If you haven't already seen it, Lenny Kravitz performed Whole Lot of Love the same night. He came as close to owning it as anyone can. Amazing performances all night.
I read somewhere that Ann and Nancy Wilson only rehearsed for 45 minutes with the choir before they performed this amazing version of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors. I have watched this video I don’t know how many times and it still gives me goosebumps!’
Stanley Kubrick directed a movie based on a book called "A Clockwork Orange." This was an X rated film at the time because of the violence, and the English thugs in the movie dressed in white jumpsuits (boiler repair uniforms - also worn by Pete Townsend in the early seventies when he grew tired of stage costumes) and they also wore "bowler hats" which were normally associated with English Conservatives. Bonham loved the film so much he adopted the boiler suit and the bowler hat on stage.
That is a very interesting bit of knowledge. When I was in high school, many years ago, I took a class called "Production". (It was the only title the instructor could come up with.) We learned what was involved in making TV, Theatrical, and Cinematic productions. For my final that year, I studied Kubrick, and in particular, Clockwork Orange. And wrote a paper on the unique and inventive production techniques that Stanley imployeed and/or invented to make that movie. The hardest part of the whole process was getting my hands on a copy of the movie. It had not yet been released on VHS. I ended up paying $75 for a bootleg copy. (That was ½ a weeks pay for me at the time.) I watched, and rewatched that movie so many times that I knew all the lines. (I was prone to quoting lines randomly for the next year or so.) I got a very good mark for my project. I think mainly because the instructor was "weirded out" by my unusual subject choice.
To be the son of the greatest drummer of all time and to one day perform one of the best songs ever in front of the best band ever is so incredible and it chokes me up everytime stuff like this happens only once a lifetime. So happy for jason
Me encantó tu reacción!! Me emocioné, me rei y me volví loca como vos ..y no paro de escucharlo y siempre encuentro algún detalle nuevo.. saludos de Argentina. Cynthia
Every artist on that stage is performing at an outstanding level. It was a magnificent performance, and the person or persons who did the arrangements for all of the additional parts did an outstanding job. I particularly like Shane Fontaine playing Jimmy Page's parts on the guitar.
Love Zep starting from the age of 14. Not sure what my excuse was before that age. Heart did them proud. Heart is amazing. One of my favorite Heart songs in "These Dreams". Beautiful ballad written by Ann Wilson. Highly recommend it!
