Man, I get the need for it--but especially with this song there's an entire journey from start to finish (complete with ebbs and flows, ups and downs, and intensity of volume) and it is composed almost like classical piece. So truly I feel bad that you aren't getting to experience the song as it was intended. Do what you gotta do though! Another excellent video
Yea j. You have been introduced to a band that are rock gods. It's a 4 man band. Three musicians. Jimmy Page is led guitar and get this...... He plays that erie sound you hear with a cello bow on his guitar. YOU HAVE TO SEE IT LIVE !!!!! Get a copy of a video called "The Song Remains the Same" WATCH IT !!!!!! You can thank me later. It's Led Zeppelin Live. Goosebumps. You'll be amazed. It's what you said. "Greatness"
That haunting sound is guitarist Jimmy Page (the GOAT) playing his electric guitar with a violin bow. Enjoyed your reaction. This song is so bad ass. :)
I was at a party with a friend tripping , Led Zeppelin was on the stereo, we both experienced the vaulted ceiling invert, it had to be the music. After that we went downstairs where a guy was injecting golf balls with butane and teeing off into the woods (it was dark, wet, and cold) I can still remember the tracers, you know what I mean 😉 It was a memorable day 🤣
You have a real soul. I hope you're helping some other young folks find theirs. Don't let nothing get in your road. Rock on Young brother. I'm a 57 year old white man but we're kin under the skin. You ever come to Texas you got a place to stay.
I love the reaction but I want the secondary as well. Like yes this happens but now I see with new vision. That way you get the music and later the lyrics when needed because that stand so strong your not able focus to both. They show two sides of the same coin way more often then people want to remember
I actually heard this whole album performed at The Fillmore East before it was released; I had gone to see Iron Butterfly, top billed, no one even knew who Led Zeppelin was.... feel lucky to be here to tell this story....they sure knew who.they were after!!
Larry Pincus I saw them twice in Chicago. I love watching this guys reaction to them. When he said it was trippy I thought yeah a lot of times back then we were trippy while we were listening to them. I know I was trippy at their concerts both times. Zeppelin is and always will be the best band ever! Better then any rock band, blues, soul, country...........Led Zeppelin was and always will be the best band ever!
Ahh, the good old days where the "crickets would be chirping in your ears" for days afterward. Around where I came from, we called it that even though it was just a high pitched "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE". Black Sabbath, Led Zep, Jethro Tull ... Blue Oyster Cult coming in '72 (after their name changed). I can't remember the year - BOC turned their concert volume down because 7 hearing people came out of one of their concerts legally deaf. Most bands turned the volume down as well after that.
Yes We were..I seen them in Concert in Orlando Florida. In The 70s..Yep..Doing Acid..No Other way to See Led Zep..My Most Fave Band ! I Was like 17 ! 18!! Fabulous. Concert.1 Of My Cherished Memories 4 Ever..Me & My Oldest Sister.. Miss her Soo Much..😊😉❤🎼🎶🎵✌🙏❤❤🎼🎶🎵🎼 RIP Emily..😢💔❤❤❤
"...with these headphones, you hear everything!" Now you know what most teens were doing late at night with the big 70s cans on their heads studying the stereo imaging and, in the case of this song, all of the panning left to right. It was a religious experience.
This was back in the days of Quadraphonic sound. Put up four speakers, on in each corner of your room as a kid. Then sit in the middle and those sounds came at you from all sides, criss crossing and really playing off each other that just isn't the same experience with headphones.
@@sarahp8058 tool blew every band out of water. Then a Perfect Circle blew Tooloutta the water. Then Tool's next album blew aPC outta the water. I love some pink Floyd but, NOTHING beats Tool
@@sarahp8058 I had a dream once. I was walking a curvy road thru woods at night. Felt like forever. Finally saw headlights coming. Put thumb out. Semi truck stops, asked where I was headed. I said idk. He told me hop in the trailer and enjoy the ride. Opened trailer doors. Tool was in there jamming. I got in and started rolling joints while they played. They stopped, we smoked. Maynerd said Let's play the new 1 4 him. The guitars sounded like angelic chorus. Maynerd sounded like hear music angel. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Truck stopped. Opened doors. We were at a beach. Everything was Grateful Dead tye dyed. Tool sat down. They'd only brought 1 acoustic off truck. Started playing with Maynerd singing. Attracted crowd of bikini babes. I woke up.... If their next album has the angel song on it, I will totally freak out, because I dreamed it long b4 then
The drum line in this song is other worldly. Bonham is probably the greatest drummer to ever live. The pausing also gives you time to share your thoughts. No biggie 🤷♀️
@@kryptyk3 I saw John's son Jason on a VH1 show that brought together a bunch of rock gods to make a band. Him, Sebastian Bach, Uncle Ted (Nugent), Scott Ian and Even Seinfeld. Of course that band didn't go anywhere, but to see so much talent collaborate was awesome!
The thing about Zeppelin, they were all geniuses in their craft! Zeppelin is by far, the most influential rock band of the 60’s and 70’s. From a drummers stand point, Bonham was the complete package for a rock drummer! I wish I could be a fraction, as gifted as he was! There is no band tighter, than the mighty Zep!
A lot of people will argue that Neal Peart is better than Bonham. Everyone is entitled to their own stupid opinion. He may be as good but never better.
Now u know why those of us who grew up to this did not turn into old people like our parents did - we still listen to it! Real Artists and musicians - MAGIC!
Enjoy man. I’ve been making the same facial expressions and getting goosebumps to this for 50 years. The pauses are ok, but please go back and listen to it again for yourself!! New subscriber.
Gerry Weed - I was 15 years old when I first heard Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. I was shot to the moon! And no bands have ever come up to their stature of talent...to this date. Wow! What a great youth we had having all the greatest rock bands ever!
I'm pretty old and I grew up in the 60s and 70s. to me, there are but THREE BANDS. that top all others. #1 the Beatles. (a genre all of their own) #2. Led Zeppelin (best hard rock/heavy metal ever ever ever) #3. Pink Floyd ( a genre all their own) There are tons of other great bands of course, but to me, these are the three:) The three that can't be topped.
@M 40 It sounds as though I have found someone else that has both excellent musical taste and an appreciation for one of the great scientific television shows produced in our era. No, it wasn't a mistake. I didn't say "Sci Fi" for a reason. Too much truth to be fiction.
@@darylljimerson1406 Are you a music fan or a lawyer? Whether or not they credited the original artists has nothing to do with the fact that their arrangements of the songs were stellar and the musicianship was second to none. You people going around pretending to be offended should ask yourselves why NONE of Zeppelin's peers have ever said anything negative about them supposedly stealing songs. Why doesn't Paul McCartney or Rush or Judas priest or Metallica or a million other well known Zeppelin fans ,who btw are actually in the business of copyrighting songs, aren't pretending to be offended by instances of plagiarism? Could it be that your knowledge of classic rock and the British Blues movement consists of a couple videos about plagiarism you happened to watch on RU-vid , and you've never actually bought or listened to an album and know nothing about the music being made by English bands of that era? Most of which were playing the exact same songs. Stop with that naive , pretentious bullshit.
@@abelincoln5698 sorry dude/dudette. But I can say what i want, and if I think the of masters plagiarism should at least give credit to the actual artist that created the master pieces they copied... No? And has that ever been settled about Paul? Why did Robbie get mad at them kids from Australia that sounding and looking like zep? Sorry dude/dudette but yeah I can see You like your music like you like women/men. Fake.lol
@@darylljimerson1406 Youre concern for musical integrity is really inspiring. But let's cut to the real question Daryl, you may want to ask yourself why you spend your time looking at and commenting on videos featuring artists you don't like ? What does that say about you Daryl? Crusader of musical justice. 😹 Fucking pansy
John Bonham killing it on drums! Roberts Voice, ....Incredible! Jimmy playing that guitar like nobody else! John Paul Jones on keyboards! 💥🎸💥A Masterpiece from the Masters themselves!
It sounds like you're only listening to the right or left side. Led Zeppelin loved to use "quadraphonic sound" If you sit in a room and have four identical speakers surrounding you and they are plugged up left front right front left rear right rear you can hear the music spinning around you- especially in Whole Lotta Love. You got to try it out dude.
@@squishybuffalo had a friend with that system way back when. Suspended his speakers off the floor in macrame hangers. Absolutely no distortion. For these guys and ELP'S Tarkus. Wow!
Imagine being 13 and having grown up listening to motown and stax artists with a little bit of soft rock thrown in on an AM transistor radio. Then one day your friend invites you over and he has an actual stereo and puts this on. I have never been the same.
jarhead4ever1 I’m so glad I was able to raise my daughter before there was an internet. She heard all this music from our stereo system with us. In fact I’m pretty sure she heard Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd way more than she would have liked because she could hear it all over our home. It is, after all, meant to be played loud. Haha Annie...lover of jarheads💕
In High school, my buds and I went to the midnight movie of "The Song Remains the Same" in Redondo Beach about 13 times. You can check that out on video.
This song is so filthy, I feel like I need to go to confession after hearing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the greatest nights of my life was when Robert Plant opened up the show for The Who in Chicago. Robert Plant and Roger Daltrey on the same bill!!!! BLISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wish I could have been there!!🤩 Just saw The Who on their Moving On tour. Roger said, "Our youth is gone, our glamour is gone..." I disagree. Roger and Pete can still bring it
Bostonwhofan. Filthy is the best way to describe IT. Whenever I listen to Dazed my face is contorted like I am smelling rotten fish. JUST AMAZING And THAT CONCERT LINE UP WAS FU%^*KIG FIRE. WHEW. IM JEALOUS!!!😊
Great Job! The pauses are needed. I can speak for a lot of us here - We fully understand. I really appreciate you going back 10 seconds to rebuild the broken flow from the pauses. I actually hate when reactors will pause and just restart from where they paused. By going back 10 seconds, you are showing us all how much you appreciate what you are hearing. I personally love seeing the younger generation discovering and enjoying the music I grew up with. The late 60's and early 70's were filled with experimental bands all wanting to create their own sound. Sadly, much of this has been lost and buried into obscurity over time, but some of the more popular bands from back then are still known today. Fortunately, Led Zeppelin carried over. It was not only one of the more popular bands still known today, it was also one of the best. Keep on Rockin' !
"That" sound is really something special. That's the sound of Jimmy Page (lead guitar) playing an electric guitar with a violin bow! Specifically, a Fender Telecaster. It's also said that he nailed it in one take. Some folks might light you up for pausing, but you've got to do what you've got to do. The way YT is now, you don't have much choice. It's far better than editing the song and I've seen a few folks try that too. I'd rather rehear 10 seconds of music than miss any amount.
@SRT 8 Rocketship Oh sure. When I've seen recordings of their live shows, I think I've only seen the LP. On the album, "they" say it's a Tele. (I'm sure you know "they". "They" apparently has all the answers.) As far as the bow, I honestly couldn't tell the difference. I assume a cello bow is longer, but I've never payed any attention. I now wonder if there was some reason he went with a cello bow instead of one for a fiddle...
I've been listening to Led Zeppelin since 1969. I've heard all of their songs thousands and thousands of times. It all still gives me goose bumps and stirs my soul. They were/are the world's best. Hands down.
A violin bow during this very trippy, hallucinogenic musical interlude. Yes, this is why I can feel you on why you'd benefit from the visual of the live performance. Btw, I find it so absolutely cool that you love exploring, respecting and dignifying all kinds of musical sounds that are new to your ears.
@@sheiladrucker6872 although they notoriously "borrowed" heavily from elsewhere and took songwriting credit for material they did not actually write. Their live performances were not up to the standard that they delivered on studio albums. Apart from that they do have many redeeming qualities to what they contributed to the musical spectrum. What I really enjoy is seeing someone who's always exploring and impressed by different styles and areas of music history.
When you do listen to it again on your own, don’t listen to the Mothership version. Listen to it from the Led Zeppelin I album. Jimmy Page remixed it for the Mothership. Sometimes when you have a masterpiece you still want to fiddle with it and end up losing the original gem.
By the way, the way it sounds on the video is DIFFERENT than the way it sounds on his headgear. He knows there's something funky going on with recording.
It's supposed to be pscycadelic music, the sound is Jimmy Page playing his guitar with a violin bow. This IS too good! Love it and you for reacting to it!
50 years later and I still get goosebumps too. Plus a little teary eyed. such greatness unmatched today. Their first 4 albums are basically "greatest hits" all by themselves.
"This sounds familiar" - I believe all the great songs sound familiar because they resonate with our souls. Think about every time you thought a song sounded familiar and later you realized that no other song sounded like it. I believe in my heart that some melodies, although they are totally new, resonate in our hearts and that makes them truly great. We feel like we know them already. They sound familiar. But they aren't, it's a new sound, a new melody, a new chord progression, but it's so perfect, it "resonates". We feel like we already know it because it EXISTS IN OUR SOUL ALREADY.
Jimmy Page played a 1959 Fender Telecaster on Led Zeppelin I. The Dragon Telecaster. He got his famous 1959 Gibson Les Paul from Joe Walsh soon after. The original Dragon Telecaster does not exist anymore but Jimmy Page collaborated with Fender this past year to make a reissue Dragon Telecaster just like his original was setup. They are affordable too. Less than $1,500 for your very own.
Jamal: “How does he make that sound???” It’s a question I asked myself when I first heard this album. Led Zep’s guitarist, Jimmy Page, achieves the sound by playing the guitar with a violin bow, and of course all kinds of studio compression/distortion effects. Someone on this thread who knows their way around a recording studio could elaborate better on this. I personally love the pausing because that leaves room for your reaction & commentary, which is what makes these videos so much fun!
Michelle Kinney As a teen who did not have the best childhood all this music just took me away!! I was so thankful for all this awesome music! Music was my escape!! It saved me in many ways
Page originally did this song as a member of the Yardbirds in 1967-1968. He was looking to play the guitar with a bow. Then with the formation of Led Zeppelin he had with him, a band that could pull it off. It made it onto the debut album in 1969
I love watching your reaction but don’t like the pause even if it is for the cause. Keep reacting though. Those of us who know this music know what’s coming next and your experience is a joy to behold. 👊😎♥️ DON’T STOP!
Back in the day, I was high school. I was a big Led Zeppelin fan. I saw them live a couple of times. The sound you are hearing is a Chelo Bow being used on the lead guitar. They are AMAZING live.
No scary movie. It's just that call and response sort of thing Robert Plant does with his voice while Jimmy Page is whipping those guitar strings with a violin bow. It's incredible! Trippy is definitely a good definition. I've been listening to this since I was a kid with the headphones attached to the wifi while laying under my Grandmothers dining room table. It's my go to on a daily when I'm driving. It doesn't have to be this album, just Led Zeppelin every morning is a must! I don't mind the pausing and I can see you've gone ahead with your LZ rabbit hole. You'll never be the same my friend! This is it! Peace
Of course Zep is great straight or with some weed but back in the day with some purple haze, orange sunshine or some 25 this music goes to a whole other dimension. With a good system and some acid this music becomes magic.
