The lyrics were written after a trip to Morocco and through the desert by Robert Plant (lead vocals) and Jimmy Page (Guitar). They both later collaborated with a group of Middle East musicians.

I was at this concert in New York. I hadn't thought about how Jimmy Page was getting his sound, and when I saw that he was playing this on guitar with a violin bow it was a definite mind blower.😅

Any shining discs that decided to stay....were looking at this woman.... and refused to leave.

It's very difficult to get 4 guys with this much talent together in one band and not have drama all over the place. Led Zeppelin is the greatest band ever assembled and if only John Bonham would have lived longer... They had a chemistry that was never ever in my opinion ever matched. Saw them in April of 1977 at the Stadium in Chicago. I will never forget that night as long as I live. I was 17 at the time. Fantastic.

Excellent choice, excellent taste- can't go wrong with the mighty Zep. Fascinating though: an English band playing a song about Kashmir (between India and Pakistan) written in Morocco for a lovely African girl... for me to enjoy in the (melting) snowy wastes of Canada. Only music can make us happy that way... oh, and maybe Mr Bean!

According to the movie "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" I've learned that this song is "The Best" song to play on a first date...

The beat reminds me so much of that rocking motion you get if you have ever ridden a camel. Quite masterful to do this in a musical piece about traveling to Kashmir, a place once only reachable by camel! What a wonderful mysterious trip this music takes you on.

Try Led Zeppelin "Whole Lotta Love". I'm not sure if you'd like it, because it's very loud and intense but it would be interesting to see your reaction.

5:56 "As I scan this wasted land." Yeah, I see what you mean. "Kashmir" was written before the PC era, of course. Wikipedia says, "None of the group members had visited Kashmir. Instead, Plant was inspired during a drive through a desolate desert area of southern Morocco." So "wasted land" just describes this desert area, and I suspect that the phrase is just a twist on the word "wasteland," which means barren, uncultivated land. 7:09 Sounds like you've got a flawed lyric transcription there. I believe line actually goes, "Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin' through Kashmir."
