I was at this show along with 2 of my now deceased brothers, my best friend and another friend who is now also deceased. I went with him to get the tickets for all of us, back when you actually had to go get tickets, we waited a day and a half in the cold and let me tell you it was a mad house. They had booths set up and herded you in like cattle, after receiving your tickets they picked you up and let you out on the other side. I was so glad to get my tickets I left my change and luckily, I found a dollar in the mud on my way to Woodward so I was able to take the bus home. This show sounded better than most people say it did, of course I had good seats just to the left of the stage. One of my brothers got arrested for selling a joint in the bathroom halfway through the show so I missed a little bit when I ran into the bathroom just as they were putting the cuffs on him. RIP To My Brothers Dennis, Michael as well as Jimmy Capobianco. PEACE LOVE LED ZEPPELIN

Interesting. I saw them on the same '77 tour in NYC, but when tickets were announced, we were only allowed to SEND in mail order orders for up to 6 tickets at a time and NO lining up anywhere to purchase. Part of a safety deal I believe because previous tour there (73?) during ticket sales someone was crushed to death. Worked out greatly in my favor as I got 3rd row seats right up front. Crazy good.

I was at this show, aged fifteen. Zeppelin was my favorite band, Kashmir was (and is) my favorite song. There were tears in my eyes that April night, and again tonight as the flood of memories engulfs me. I was with three of my closest friends for this concert, and two of them are no longer with us, so this footage is ever more poignant for me. I've always searched for the CCTV footage, but if it hadn't been wiped, I'm sure it would have surfaced by now. So, I'm sure this will be the next best thing. Thank you for this. @kevinindublin
@kevinindublin 2 месяца назад
@@alq2868 Think Peter Grant is mainly to blame, as he insisted Zeppelin were an "in person" experience and the effect was lost watching back on a tape. You'd have to come and see them was the attitude....So all thru their career almost nothing was professionally shot.....Very sad... For TSRTS movie they had budget but making it was a last minute decision at the end of the '73 tour... so there wasn't enough time to plan shots & ensure best quality results:(

I was 20 years old when me and two of my friends attended this show. We didn't have the festival seating, but we were down there before the show started. As soon as the show started it became a crush. It was so tight I could lift both feet off the ground without going down. People were being passed overhead while the concert went on. Plant even tried to calm everyone down (in this video) because people were getting pushed against the barrier near the stage. It was a great show. The sound in the Silverdome was not very good. Lots of echoing. The show itself was great! Great set. It was without a doubt the best concert I have ever attended to this day. The only time I would ever see the mighty Zeppelin live. If I could go back in time I would have tried to go to some of the other shows in surrounding states.

What you see are the U-Matic video cameras. They were used to provide the images for the giant screen above the stage. Similar to the setup used for Earls Court in 1975, Seattle Kingdome in 1977, and Knebworth in 1979. The only problem is they did not record multitracks for this show and it is possible that the cameras were just providing live feed to the screen and not recording the images to tape.

@seanstrider2185 I've heard those rumors crop up lately that the U-Matic cameras were only used to project video, however the U-Matic system involved 3/4 inch cassette style tapes, which fit inside those box style cameras seen on stage. I'm geared towards it being filmed. The film could get easily damaged in playback, but not always. The U-Matic style tapes pushed to the way side 16 mm film and many news station switched over to using the U-Matic system by the mid 70s. It's not a stretch to think that film may exist somewhere or is was used and lost or destroyed. It's not a stretch to think that this show may have filmed by Led Zeppelin. It's all speculation at the point.

They probably didn't like the way it came out. Especially audio inside the Silverdome is just atrocious. The echo is just off the charts. Same thing happened when we went to Cobo Hall in Detroit for a very special Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band anniversary of that classic double live bullet recording back in 1975. The Seeger production people had like 11 different cameras some even handheld at the event outside going in and along the floor and in the aisles and cameras everywhere else recording this with professional equipment and probably on audio digital. This was about 2005, 30th anniversary of the live bullet recording at Cobo hall. And ever since, we've always thought there'd be a DVD and stuff of that epic show that we went to sitting in row 7 right in the front. The camera guy even came by us a couple times and turned and saw us partying and holding our drinks up and everything. And nothing has ever happened. No DVD has ever came out from seager. They probably just didn't like the way it looked and sounded. So they just forgot about it and it's just sitting somewhere. Maybe after he dies and stuff someone will buy the rights and put it together and put it out I don't know. I'm sure his children will probably do it eventually. But that's probably the reason you don't see film from this show either. They must have just thought it sucked

Hell I would have too! Sadly one of the few regrets if my life, missing the 7/17/1977 show at the Kingdom! My folks were ultra conservative I had just turned 17 on the 9th of July, there was no way I was going to be able to go! Then of course the beginning of the end happened to the mighty Zeppelin machine with Karac passing, John and Jimmy missing the funeral. The way ITTOD was put together with not much of Jimmy and Bonzos input on it all together! It was my least favorite but was so looking forward to that tour to come to Seattle! When the worst day day of my life up to that sad day September 25th 1980 when I was at work the local news only AM 710 Radio said Bonzo was gone! After work I got arrested with 3 other of my best friends picking shrooms in the Kent Valley that same afternoon! It was horrible I worked for Honeywell that did 85% military D.O.D. work with a security clearance! So a stupid drug charge could mean losing a career job for sure and with daddy being a supervisor it wasn't looking good trying to avoid letting dad find out! Well my little brother failed me when I asked him specifically to make sure to get the mail every day before mom did and put the mail I was expecting in my room and keep it between him and I! HELL NO! The worst case happened, mom got the mail the day that the summons for my appearance in court even opening it up seeing it not having a clue to what what trespassing 3rd degree meant! I lied threw my teeth, took a day of vacation off and so did dad to my surprise! He was pushing me to hurry up cuz he was going too, I said NO! Plus I had to go pick up my buddies 15 miles in the other direction then back track 40 miles to the court house! It was fucked up, but at least dad had gone to work while I was in the shower so I thought! I just mped in my 67 Baja bug and headed off to get my buddies leaving g later than I should doing several double passes on a winding road to get there, but all was good we made the trip in record time! Getting into a packed court room none of us were called up first, so very nervously we realized that 95% of the cases that day were all for the same reason, after hearing a couple of rulings we breathed a BIG sigh of relief only getting a simple 54 dollar fine without any probation! We were out by noon and headed back to were we knew a guy the sold pot and since I had the best job I bought 3 grams of some high grade pot with us all getting ripped the whole afternoon enjoying that we got a slap on the wrist then getting back home just in time for dinner to ward off the lunches! Well my dad a usually a pretty well mannered man definitely had a bit of a attitude even though I told them of the slap on the wrist deal and that it was behind me so not to worry about, it was all cool! No that's when I caught more hell from him, getting the 3rd degree about how I put my clearance in jeopardy and could effect my future advancement at Honeywell! I went to my room after dinner to hide from the rath of dad's anger and probably just took some sneaky hits of pot then later after dad was in bed I went to the fridge to get something to eat when mom caught me to give me more shit about it, I told her to lay off another to make a big deal about it! That's when I found out that dad had left to go to work all right but parked just down the road hiding waiting for me to pass then he was going to follow me to court! He was more pissed that I had lost him in the dust driving like a idiot so not to be late, then had to wait till later when I got home to find out it was no big deal, but for him he was scared to death that I perhaps gone to jail! So it being a no biggie thing, blowing his doors off and losing him watching me passing cars like it was a road course and I was going to win the race and him a loser is what really PISSED him off! My folks were young when I was born, in his early 20's he and his dad were successful go-cart racers with me still in diapers watching intently getting the racing bug that would race around the house like a complete idiot getting the nick name HOT ROD, for yrs that was me and everything I drove i would take it to the limit even though I was very small and had to kick start my motorcycles in the beginning using a 5 gallon bucket to do so! The older I got that nick name wasn't used anymore in fear it would go to my head jjuusstt making me more dangerous maybe killing someone later! Well sure I was hot rodder racing on the road all of the time rarely getting beat with my 65 Barracuda pony car with big balls never wrecking it just beating the hell out of that thing! My dad had bought without me knowing a rare 67 karma ghia aversion bug with a sun roof that wasn't real straight but a good buy, thinking I would have less chance of fucking up with a slow bug! Sure dad! Lol! The first thing I did was get it rebuilt cut up the body and made it into as fast of a death trap as I could and certainly did wreck it! But no harm done too badly and got into VW's after that they could be hot nodded up pretty good with the last one I did that would do wheelies after market geared down race built tranny with 32" tires all the way around, big fat off road tires in the back with a balanced 1600 and dual side draft carbs that made it scream one piece fiberglass tilt front end and custom steal framed with brush guard bumper front and rear and a single glass pack stinger exhaust! It was the perfect dangerous 62 Baja that I beat the hell out of but never wrecked it! If you made it this far thanks for reliving a bit of my crazy life that 63 I'm still alive and crazy as hell still waking up each morning grateful to get another day of life sober, semi retired helping those less fortunate having a good time all of the time, just sad that I never saw the mighty Zeppelin live just Jimmy and Robert at the gorge in 95! I swear on my parents passings that it was all true and just a small fraction of the wild life I've lived with few regrets, one awesome daughter that gave me one grandson who is my mini me that I pity my daughter to have to deal with but all is good and blessed! You all take care and be careful, it's some different times now! Vote smart 2024 Trump to drain the swamp!

I was there at the old Pontiac Silverdome in 1977 and could write a short novel on this event. We came from northwest Ohio in a packed van the night before and were amongst the first couple hundred of people admitted into the stadium, or around 3 o'clock as I recall. I was about 30-40 in front, center stage and it was one of the most memorable shows that I've ever seen.

@@SteveRastaCahillconcertnetwork Yes indeed Steve. You definitely know your Boston/Zeppelin history. I had to see them in NY in 1977. I saw three out of the six shows. But I would have traded all three to see one show at the Boston Garden. I have spoken to two people who were waiting for tickets in 75. One of them got a ticket. But traded it back in for a refund. The other never got a ticket. Neither of them remembered if the craziness inside the Garden happened before or after the tickets went on sale. I spoke to Major White about his decision to ban Led Zeppelin for five years. He told me that he got a lot of backlash through the years from the fans. It sounded like he regretted doing it. Anyways. Happy New Year to you S~

Thank you so much to everyone involved. You can definitely tell speedy knew what he was doing. I know from experience how hard it is to shoot from general admission in front of the stage. The way he quickly repositioned to a better view off to jimmy’s side was very smart. How he managed to get that clear of a line of sight in itself is impressive with 70k people. Once again thank you. I lived in Lansing when this happened. Was a huge Zeppelin fan and 13 years old. I was a small kid. Even though I had been to a few shows by that time they were mainly in our Civic Center that held about 5,000. This was around 80,000 people. My mother at the time, scared for my safety, wouldn’t allow me to go. At that time they only sold tickets from the box office windows. A buddy of mine, who was 17, went to get tickets and said it was chaos, people fighting their way to the front of the line with baseball bats. He managed to get a couple tickets so he’s there somewhere. He said the crowd was wild. I remember imagining the laser light cone surrounding Jimmy during Achilles. I was really pissed at my mother for a long time but I get it now

I was lucky enough to see them live in July 1977 this same tour, 2 1/2 months after this Detroit show. The show I saw was their last North American concert sadly. They flew to New Orleans after the Oakland show I was at and Plant got the dreaded phone call that his 5 yr old son Karac had passed away. They reappeared two years later in 1979 for the Knebworth shows and then the next year Bonham died and that was the end of an incredible run by the greatest Rock band of all time. No one before or since will ever come close to what this band did with their music and talent and it was done in an era of the late 60s and mostly 70s when the competition was incredibly stiff. To be on top in Rock n Roll with bands like The Beatles, The Stones, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, The Allman Brothers, Santana, The Who, The Doors, Lynryrd Skynryd to name just a few is nothing short of amazing.
