Nah........urban legend. This was 1973....Maureen had long stopped traveling with the band.....she had a one year old Karac at home to care for plus a young 4-5 year old daughter, Carmen. According to many articles your information is wrong, nothing to do with record executives. It seems that it all started with a conversation between Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Keith Moon and John Entwistle. One or some of them were toying with the idea of creating a supergroup. Moon seemed not to have been too optimistic about their success saying that they would go down "like a lead ballon". To this, Entwistle jokingly remarked that they would probably go down "like a lead zeppelin". Later, when Jimmy Page was thinking of another name for the "New Yardbirds", "Lead Zeppelin" came to his mind but changed the spelling of "Lead" because Americans would likely pronounce it "leed" instead of "led".
