I was a Senior in High School when this album dropped. This song was one of my favorites. Played it a million times in my bedroom upstairs in the old farmhouse on my little record player I worked so hard to buy. Now this is my kind of song to walk up the isle to the alter for my wedding. Alas, I hiked up Mt. Shasta and got married in a borrowed dress and my hiking boots, standing in the snow in July. Priceless, still married 45 years later. One of the greatest love songs of all time. They can play in at my funeral.
I remember the day after John Bonham passed away, there was a little notice in the classified section of our local paper "The mountains haven't crumbled to the sea but there is no longer you and me" saddest thing I think I have ever read
...you've just proved why virtually every single serial killer was 'raised' by their inferior parietal-lobed mother - and no father to fill in the empty 'egotistical' spaces - you daren't question your own mother when you were an 'innocent babe'... Try reading a truth-telling book by a rare, good female: Michele Elliot : 'Female Sexual Abuse of Children' - and try to back up your comments - make them a little more accurate...satanists hate all truth ...
@jonathan mallard - The world's best evidence means nothing if you don't know where and when it applies. There's a much simpler explanation that has nothing to do with gender/sex or inferior brain biology.
Zeppelin was so much more than "heavy metal". They really could do just about anything they wanted to. Lots of their songs were "heavy" but they also have beautiful, gentle ones like this. I recommend "That's The Way" the next time you want another quieter Zep tune. Nobody seems to do that one, but it's super lush and sentimental, like this one. One of my favorites.
One of my favorite songs ever ...The lyrics are just so beautiful...Just great musiciens . Much Depth in this ..💓 great choice you picked to discover .
Let's be clear: "If the sun refused to shine", it would not just be "dark all the time" but it would be the end of all things, full stop. But, my brother, Robert, would still be loving her, so....you know...Rob's testifying! :)
I like how you noticed the panning they do with the instruments. I'm not sure they were the first to do that, but they were certainly one of the first and, in my opinion, used it more effectively than anyone else.
I agree about the use of panning and separation of instruments, it's why I never like mono records. John Paul Jones plays the organ on this, he's the most underrated member of the group.
I keep seeing this statement that JPJ was underrated, be it a member of the band or as a musician. Nothing could be further from the truth. Jonesy played almost everything the rest of the band couldn't, engineered & put the songs together in the studio, mixed maxed & did so much behind the scenes & was overall the most talented member of this band. Ask any musician about JPJ & you'll get an earful of praises. Just because he wasn't the most popular doesn't mean that he's underrated.
Another great Zeppelin song not many people are familiar with is Tea for One. It's extremely bluesy and is structured very much like Since I've Been Loving You.
Yesss. "This whole left right thing" exactly. Zeppelin is what really got me into recording. I liked to play before that, but hearing what you could do with a soundscape took this old stuff to get me into engineering. People now just mix to have one full blast comin' atchya, which is cool for what it is, but when I started listening to zeppelin I was like oh you can treat the left and right like separate channels and play. It's a lost art.
I really dig the fact that you are hitting the songs that the real fans know about, not just the ones you hear in movies and commercials and shit. R e s p e c t 🤘😜
the song that made Jimmy Page realize that Plant could now handle writing the majority of the lyrics for the band's songs. Plant wrote the song as a tribute to his then-wife Maureen.,,,,and what a beautiful Tribute it is.......
What a vibe from this tune. Yipes. Pure Led Zep II. Very underrated tune. Their habit of mixing light and shadow is on full display here, a masterpiece really.
You need to do Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter". It is the one song I never see people react to from them. When I was a teenager in the 80's I would play this to go to sleep to. It's such a beautiful vibe.
Deep, somber track like no other. Thank you for this one! Amazing display of musicianship, and just so emotional. Robert Plant's vocals, straining and cracking just the right way... For pure emotional reaction this one has to be the best of all time. OK maybe Battle Of Evermore...
No Track Bad. No Album Bad. Back in the day we had to WORK to listen to something different. But we didnt have to, they were all GOLDEN. So we just let them Riiiddddde.
Thank you, thank you and again thank you. I feel like I told you about this song and you actually looked into it. It's honestly my favorite song by them. You can see what each member of the group is able to do in a very beautiful song. God bless.
You're lovin the sounds coming in through the headphones from left and right, and the different instruments.... Now you should listen to this on an audiophile system to hear the brilliance to Led Zeppelin.
ScribeCash if You enjoy Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd check another 70's supergroup Steely Dan. Recommened Tracks by them - "Josie" "Reelin in the Years" Do it Again" "Aja" and " Rikki Don't Lose My Number"
I was searching You Tube for this song to send to my Gal. I saw your reaction and decided to watch. Good people like good music. Regardless of beliefs, color or where we are from music can bring us all together and forget the worlds problems. It’s especially good to see younger folks listening to classic rock and appreciating it. I listen to just about all music except opera and I do listen to old school Rap and Hip Hop. Cyprus Hill, NWA, Wu Tang, etc. I hope one day we can all get along. Maybe we can start by being kind to each other
I love love LOVE your reviews Scribe! I feel your soul as you react. You remind me of myself reacting to songs when no one is around and I'm free to let loose! Thank you.
I love see your shows Great song First time i heard this was like 16 17 years ago when i was high school The time i started to smoke mary jane Great time great music
Faked out on the Fade Out. Let that be a lesson to you, girl. You shall leave no rhyme... Before it's time! The one essential element that many You Tube reactors seem to have sacrificed, which all of us Boomers enjoyed when we heard this music for our 1st time, is that the stylus in the groove followed the Track all the way to...THE END! Round & round & round she goes, and where she stops... Nobody Knows! So let the music go & go, until it stops...and plays no more●
If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you. If mountains crumbled to the sea, There would still be you and me. Have more beautiful words ever been penned?
Aloha Hola Heehaw Whassup and How are Ye! Thank you for being AWESOME Indeed. Your reaction melted me. I needed to see a Lady's joy. Always love and good vibes from Las Vegas Nevada. Sincerely Tom Weidler 🌹😎👍👍
Stereo recording was still a new thing in rock and roll in the late 60's early 70's when these songs were laid down. So it made plenty of sense for Zeppelin to experiment with the left right arrangements of the instruments as well as playing around with how each channel was panned in the mix. Rick Beato occasionally talks about the recording strategies used back then, where the goal was to present the music as it might sound to an audience, adding to a set up with the lead guitar in the right channel and the bass guitar in the left channel and the drums and the vocals in the middle, by directing the reverb from the guitar into the left channel and the reverb from the bass into the right channel to create an even bigger sound. Now if you want to listen to something from back then where the advantage of stereo was put to exceptionally good use, check out the guitar solos during the middle passage of this: "All Along The Watchtower" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TLV4_xaYynY.html
After the Lemon song, I used to flip my record over to side two and skip this song. You can look at the vinyl and tell it was hardly played by the color difference. But somehow this gives me flashbacks more than any other Zeppelin song that I heard thousands of times.
They did a lot of the panning left and right in the 1960s on different instruments. The Beatles engineers were notorious for separating the instruments in the mix. You did miss the epic ending though. It was fading out, but it fades back in and abruptly ends.
Just an FYI that was a false ending I hope you went back and listen to the rest of it it’s only a second or two but what a beautiful song. I absolutely love your reactions it’s a lot of fun to watch you get into a song thank you for your time
Played this at my 1st marriage and I still have that album but the wife is long gone. So I take the song meaning to be me and the album being forever even if the sun doesnt shine 🤣🤣🤣🤣 flip the script
John Paul Jones (yes the bass player) doing the keys on this tune!! Still gotta check out the keys (as well as the singer and other musicians) on the song "NO QUARTER "!!
