Jimmy was inspired to write this song after hearing that George Harrison (from The Beatles) said that the problem with Led Zeppelin was they didn't have any ballads. This song is moody, melancholy, and triumphant all at the same time. It is a perfect example of Led Zeppelin's ability to create songs of "light and shade". Absolutely gorgeous.
One of Robert Plant's best lyrics" "Upon us all, a little rain must fall" . Really sums up how life can be at times. Everybody gets the blues sooner or later.
You know it's a Masterpiece when every time you listen you love it more. "Over The Hills And Far Away" is going to blow you away, "The Ocean" C'mon On. Love this Album
PS. looked this up, "On this track, John Paul Jones played the Mellotron, one of the first synthesizers; it sounds here like an orchestra for violins." From a website called Sound Facts. Once again the lead wizard is surely JPJ
This entire concert (Madison Square Garden 1973) was filmed as part of a movie about Led Zeppelin called The Song Remains The Same. Each member chose a fantasy scene to be incorporated into the movie, and Robert chose The Rain Song. He was a knight in shining armor going to rescue the damsel in distress from the castle. To see Robert riding a horse on the beach with his fur cape and that beautiful hair flowing in the wind while this song played was just magical!! 🎶You must watch the movie when you're done with all the albums...you wont be sorry!! Thank you for taking this LZ journey and allowing us to follow along🎵🎸💙🎶💙🎸 So much of our youth is tied up with LZ, and this just takes us back to some of the best times of our lives😊💙
Still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Watch the live performance. But you cannot separate ,"The Song Remains the Same/The Rain Song" 1972 live at msg
One of their best creations for sure. That's Page and Jones flexing their production muscles but there's a lot more to it than that. Their "ear". Their creativity in layering all of those parts. That's advanced stuff. They're pretty good.
THANK YOU AGAIN~~~= JPJ holds them all together...HOUSES one of THE BEST LPs One of my favorite LZ songs.. You can really hear John Paul Jones w the headphones on. the little piano notes that are desgined to sound like raindrops, the bass guitar, violin, he is the glue behind the genius.... AND YES THEY ARE WIZARDS!!!!
🙋♀️ Led Head present!! Let's do this!!!😎 Yeah, this album is definitely different from the first 4 but a "good" different...wait til you get to "IN THROUGH THE OUTDOOR"!! (It has my all-time favorite Zeppelin song "ALL MY LOVE" on it!!) You're right.... this song IS brilliant, all-the-way around!! Love seeing your appreciation for it's greatness!!! Great reaction and now on to "Dancing Days"!! Get ready to do some chair dancing for us, it's a fun one!!😁
Absolutely, hands down my favourite Zeppelin tune. Or from anyone else, for that matter! 7.5 minutes of pure beauty. I find it almost impossible to concentrate on anything else while this plays. Definitely can't listen to it while driving!!
I was not really a Led Zeppelin fan but of course liked a lot of their songs but when early 2002 a late night visited a bar in Rappongi Tokyo Japan and they played The Rain song followed by No Quarter I was hooked Now days the favorite is When the Leave Breaks, in part to the drumming which is the foundation of almost all Led songs
Love this song! What else can I say? Also, it is a song that reminds me of a romance I had one summer in college that would have made for a great movie other than its unhappy ending.
