"Led Zeppelin" started out as "The New Yardbirds", until after a number of low-paying ill-attended gigs he realized that nobody was interested in a band called "The New Yardbirds" and changed the name of his band to "Led Zeppelin".
Maybe what he's not forgetting is the Tiny Bradshaw original from the early 50s, and was also remembering it with the Yardbirds. Or maybe the amazing Johnny Burnette rockabilly cover from a few years later. I'd be surprised if the other members of Zeppelin didn't know the earlier versions, knowing their deep roots in the blues.
