Yeah but the actual echo effect is done with an effect machine. It is still a masterful beat that sounds amazing.
@Spamual2

TheGreatsagegoku no bonham played his drums in the middle of the living room of a house that had high ceilings, they recorded this album in that house. When he played the first notes it set the tone for the drums, it was a natural echo
@TheGreatsagegoku
@TheGreatsagegoku 4 года назад
@@Spamual2 that is only partially true. There is still an echo effect put on. There are videos on RU-vid explaining this, Rick Beato's is probably the best. There is some natural echo because of the space but it's not nearly so pronounced as you can hear on the record. It doesn't have to be all natural for It to still be cool, it can just be a great engineering decision, that's cool too. I don't know why people feel the need to defend apocryphal stories so much.

From Wikipedia: “When the Levee Breaks" is a country blues song written and first recorded by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929. The lyrics reflect experiences during the upheaval caused by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927.”
@patrickflanagan3762
@patrickflanagan3762 4 года назад
So this song was a blues song originally recorded in 1929, about the Great Mississippi Flood. Led Zeppelin rearranged for playing with rock instruments, electric guitar etc. This song is where the 1920s blues sound and the 1960s rock and roll sound really fused together into something unique. You can find the original version of the song on RU-vid if you want to give it a listen to compare.

This song is a remake of an old country blues song by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy released in 1929. It’s about the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 that displaced a lot of people, many of who moved to Chicago. Led Zeppelin just turned it into a blues/rock song.
@cricket778
@cricket778 4 года назад
They didn’t just turn it into a blues/rock song, they used their talent to elevate the song. Just like Hendrix did with Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower”. Respect to the original artists, but sometimes the cover elevates the original

@FrankMilito
@FrankMilito 4 года назад
It's very much a cover. Reinterpretations are exactly what covers are lol. Professional musician here, with education in music history. Led Zeppelin was notorious for ripping off blues artists, especially muddy waters. What's important is that this was not exclusive to led Zeppelin. The Beatles were even more notorious for it. And countless other blues, rock, country, etc... artists. Music back then wasn't protected in the same way it is now. Musicians of color were even worse off. Either way it is a fantastic version of the song. I still can't believe the "it's not a cover" comment 😂🤦🏽‍♂️. By that explanation then Blue Monday by Orgy isn't a cover, and neither is Alien Ant Farm's "Smooth criminal".... I could make a massive list. Shit torn by Natalie Imbruglia wouldn't be a cover then. Nor would New Found Glory's "king of wishful thinking".

I've related this (particular) story numerous times in the comment sections of RU-vid (and here I go again). In October 1968, I was a 21 y/o studying in London. I went to a club to see what I thought was the new version of an old band called The Yardbirds. As it turned out, who I was seeing was a band who would change its name (a few months later) to LED ZEPPELIN. I never thought they'd actually be anything, as many bands at the time were Blues-based. How wrong I was!

The members of Led Zeppelin grew up listening to blues and as they got older and started playing they took that love and heavied up the sound, mix in some good ol' rock n' roll and a new musical genre was born called "Hard Rock". Through other bands and with time that heavy rock sound evolved into Metal music and a whole bunch of different subgenres. But you could absolutely argue the fact that without blues we wouldn't have Rock (n' Roll) or Hard Rock. And that's the thing I love about music and all of it's strange and beautiful altercations, it's constantly evolving and changing through the influence of everyone that participates, writes and performs. So big ups to both of you for broadening your scope, you'll soon understand that everything is connected to everything in music like a world wide constant collaboration. Keep up the fantastic reactions, Imma subscribe!

this is an adaptation of a near 100 year old blues song. its literally about a huge flood. think hurricane katrina new orleans. yes 1960s british people were obsessed with blues. you can really hear the train talk in plants harmonica. and pages slide guitar. And the way they microphone the drums they got just a legendary drum sound they put the drums at the bottom of a staircase and put microphones in the middle and at the top which gave it this really open sounding amazing unique drum sound

You should have seen them live. "When The Levee Breaks" is an old blues song from the 1920's. I've heard is played by street musicians in New Orleans, before Katrina. That town was a whole other scene back then. Keep up the good work!

I love you guys! Completely serious here! I've been very entertained by watching the two of you react to music that I am very familiar and grew up on. It's absolutely blowing my mind that y'all are digginged Led Zeppelin so much! Well, you both know exactly what great music sounds like. I mean, y'all pick up on quality music so quickly, and I am getting a HUGE kick out of watching it! I can answer all of your questions about ALL of the bands that you have reacted to, but I'll just tell you a little bit about Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant is the vocals for the Band and the entire band is named Led Zeppelin. They're named after the German blimp, called a Zeppelin, first one built in the world and that was just prior to World War 1, around 1912 or so. And, you guys nailed it as far as the genre of music...it is definitely blues, but it's also considered hard rock, in fact, most people consider Led Zeppelin to be the original hard rock band, and they're also considered the best rock band the world will ever see. Jimmy Page is their awesome guitarist, John Bonham (now deceased) was on drums and John Paul Jones is the bassist. They are from England and the song, "Stairway to Heaven" is considered the best rock song of all times. The two of you have literally picked the most famous rock band in the world to like. You should both be very proud of your taste in music and the extraordinary ability to immediately spot greatness. I can also tell you everything you need to know about AC/DC, and Queen. Anywho, I'm a 57 year old ultra cool white dude, just in case you were wondering. Lol Feel free to ask me anything and I could definitely add even more bad ass music to your list. Just let me know! Peace Out!!! 😀😀😀

The reason it sound so bluesy is because Led Zeppelin and other influential English rock bands of their era who basically created metal as a genre started out playing heavy, electric guitar-driven covers of blues standards, including this one; the son'gs originally from sometime in the 20's if I remember correctly, and it's entirely literal- it's about a flood displacing a bunch of people. The entire metal genre grew out from a handful of Brits who really liked old blues records.

theh songs of Zepp vary from blues to rock, some jazzy, some folky sounding, they really dont have solid "style" if you want to hear some rock n roll , check the song "Rock n Roll", it kicks ass and some major drum work i know will light you up! and if you want some serious blues check out "Since Ive been Loving You" that will drag you down hard.
