PEAT SLEEPER! A phrase I coined to describe this whisky. Nobody's heard it until now obviously, but you'll all be using it tomorrow lol.
It's off to the Isle of Mull and the Tobermory distillery for my latest offering...the Ledaig (Let-chic) 10 year old. A peated whisky with LOTS of character.
Enjoy.

Tried this for the first time recently and immediately ordered 2 bottles on amazon... just gorgeous. Best whisky I've tried. I prefer this to Springbank 10, but then again maybe I'm just a novice. This seems so dynamic

January 5, 2021 - Happy New Year. I'll be reviewing this soon so I am comparing notes with other Whisky Tubers, as I normally. do. I find more youth in the Ardbeg 5. Ledaig 10 seems to me to be a cross between Ardbeg 10 and Laphroaig 10.

Thanks very much Jim for this video. I agree completely on your assessment of the Ledaig 10 as it was the first peated whisky I truly liked...so much so that I immediately bought a 2nd bottle right after trying it. My palette has now grown more accepting of peat and there are others I enjoy as well, but the Ledaig is still near the top for me. Really appreciate you still managing to create these reviews with your busy schedule! Take care, Drew

Cheers Drew. I'll always make time for the reviews buddy. I enjoy making them too much not to. Couple more days sees me finishing for a break so I hope to sit down over the next couple of weeks with future review subjects and get to know them a little better. It's a tough old life 😄😄 Thanks buddy.

just polished off the heel of a bottle of this in the past week. love the notes you gave for this one - shotgun cordite and old brass -fantastic!. ledaig sits in the holy trinity of great non-islay peaters along with talisker and longrow. could be a dark horse for the best 10 on the market imo, cheaper than ardbeg and port charlotte also!.

Funny how your tasting notes differ from mine, yet I also sing its praises. Love the Ledaig. Comparing it to standard Islay bottlings it beats the Ardbeg 10, the Laphroaig 10 neck in neck with Caol Ila 12... the Lagavulin 16 beats it but then it’s the Lagavulin 16 so perhaps unfair comparison. Speaking of 10 year olds, I recommend the Bladnoch 10, I was somewhat awestruck
@WhiskeyNovice
@WhiskeyNovice 3 года назад
Cheers Kenneth. Well...when it's good, it's good, no matter how our notes differ mate. Regarding the Bladnoch...there are definately loads more 10yr olds of notability out there, so I've no doubt I'll revisit this series again.

Really like this stuff, but not sure it’s better than Ardbeg 10. Need to keep going back. I would say they are neck and neck though which is saying something! Agreed Bladnoch 10 is terrific.

Peat sleeper!. absolutely. For changes down the bottle I always say that about the Craigellechie 13. The Ledaig 10 has all those flavors in the finish. It's kinda crazy

Another great review, Jim. I could tell you like this one! I am about to kill a bottle of this myself and I think I've enjoyed it more as I went through the bottle. Excellent peated whisky, but not for folks who don't like the sulfur and rubber. For me this is a favorite because it is so bold and complex as you described so well.

My first introduction to Ledaig was during my 'whisky novice' first year and I plunged for their Sinclair Series Rioja Cask Finish NAS.....wow, that was impressive Jim. I've gone down other peated whisky routes with Bowmore 12 & 15, Smokehead Islay and latterly Laphroaig 10, and the Ledaig holds its own in the peat stakes and to this day is the best quality NAS I've tasted. It helps that it's 46.3% vol, no colour and none chill filtered which is the integrity holy grail and I expect that the Lediag 10 is no different. Excellent and passionate review Jim 😁🥃!

Its interesting, Jim, that you pulled out the Wee Beastie (Haven't had yet) & not the Ardbeg 10... so would you say that the Wee Beastie is more comparable to the Ledaig 10; less citrus notes, like the Ardbeg 10? 🤔🤔🤔🤷‍♂️😍 Very Cool, either way.
@WhiskeyNovice
@WhiskeyNovice 3 года назад
@@Ben_Demon_Hunter yeah I believe the Wee Beastie's youth makes it closer to the Ledaig. Just my opinion of course. The Ardbeg 10, for me, has more burnt out bonfire along with those (as you said) citrus notes.

I enjoy everything that comes from Tobermory Distillery, we don't get their gin here in Alberta, but I'd try it if I could get it. Ledaig was the first peated whisky I tried that wasn't from Isaly . It instantly became a favourite here. Cheers Jim

This was the first very peaty Whisky I got after trying some lightly peated ones. It took a year and a half for me to break through peat to appreciate it so at that time this was just burning dentist office. Knew I had broken through when I could taste the mild flavors hiding behind the peat. Glad I stuck with it as a whole new category of Whisky was available to experience. Cheers Jim

Burning dentist office 🤔. That's a new one but I think I can see where you're going Tim 😄. Yeah, the peat thing really does divide I find. I still have friends in the community, with huge collections, who just can't drink peated whisky. As I've said before...I feel for them because they're missing out on a great experience. But I can totally understand why it just doesn't sit well for some. We'll just have to keep evangilising and hope for the best 😉😀 Cheers buddy.
