Lee Hazlewood - Nancy Sinatra, Some Velvet Morning, NBC television special "Movin' With Nancy" in 1967.
Lee Hazlewood's passing made me think of the "Some Velvet Morning" recording, It's a strange eerie tune Lee wrote in the mid to late 60's and recorded with Nancy Sinatra, anyway, here's the video, I wanted to share it.
PLEASE be aware that is is a Lee Hazlewood, Nancy Sinatra tribute. I welcome your thoughts and stories. Beware that ALL derogatory comments will be removed along with comments about other artiest covers and talk show host using it as bumper music. Please just celebrate Lee and Nancy
.

Remember this like yesterday . Just arrived in Vietnam , homesick , scared , a long year ahead of me . Lying in my cot that first night , raining , and alone with my thoughts . Another marine came in with a transistor radio and this started playing . We listened in silence and I had to hold back tears , lowest point in my life . But Thank God , I made it back , so many didn’t . Still , after all these years , this song is difficult for me to listen to . Semper Fi .

This is a perfectly CRAFTED song. Lee was a disc jockey. The mechanics of this are amazing with the contrasts. Minor key for Lee. Dark, foreboding, rough country ballad in 4/4 time, vs. major key for Nancy, a lilting, well, flowery melody with high strings and synthesizers. A completely DIFFERENT key, but it is seamlessly, and artfully brought back to Lee's key. They each hold the last note long for the time signature change. Nancy sings it in 3/4 time, more lilting and melodic, same time as waltz music. It really is composed music, not just written music. Remains one of my favorite songs. Either you get it or you don't. Friends can't see what I see in it, they say they'd turn the station. Their loss. So many people recorded this including Vanilla Fudge, the psychedelic rock group. Listen to it, that is a fantastic rendition of this. It's not what you think when it starts.

This song has depth and, remember, it was marketed to mostly young people who were listening to music on little transistor radios. What an amazing era for music.

I never heard of this song until earlier this year on the 60s on 6 Satellite Survey Countdown on XM Radio. I fell in love with this song. This is probably one of the best songs of Nancy Sinatra's career. Real good stuff!!!

That was my thinking, too. Just such a somber sort of orchestra type sound and mood. They should have made a song out of that alone as well.
@Johnhollywood8

I agree. The intro is absolutely beautiful. They could've expanded it and created a song of that instrumental all by itself. Just transports you back in time to the 60s!

I remembered when this aired on television. The biginning of the instrumental takes me back to 1968 in the living room sitting on the floor infront of the television with my 3 sisters and hearing my dad talking about going to his mother's funeral , "nonna". We just moved here from Green Island NY. Nonna just passed. Very Sad time.

I used to love this song when I was little - it gave me chills and was hauntingly beautiful. I especially loved the name “Phaedra.” I just looked the name up and found out who Phaedra was. She was a figure in Greek mythology who fell in love with her husband’s son; her husband took his son’s life and then Phaedra offed herself. Blew me away how this song relates to that myth and the “powers that shouldn’t be.” (“I’m gonna open up your gate” - “gates” are occultic “portals.”) And I thought it sounded so innocent back then… 🤔
