When youngsters mention David Taylor as the greatest Ohio wrestler of all time, I always ask them to go learn about Leroy Kemp. This man came just before my time, thank you for posting these highlights. Amazing doesn't begin to describe this man's mental and physical talents to compete and win at the State, National, and World levels. Mind boggling.
Greatest Wrestler of that era! I went to a Wrestling Camp in PA. that Lee Kemp was teaching at in the summer of 1979, he would demonstrate the moves on me, and he had some great ones. He was training for the 1980 Olympics and he was asking for volunteer's to stay after class to help him train, I couldn't believe it, I was the only one, I got to shoot take downs with the greatest Wrestler on the planet, twice a day for about an hour a session, it was amazing what I learned from this man. I went to the NYS finals later that year, and I tried my hardest to even come close to taking Lee down, it was impossible. I loved the sport and it was the greatest honor to be mixing it up with this icon of Wrestling.
@@LeeKemp Hi Lee, I wonder if you remember me, it was a small Wrestling Camp in PA, summer of 79, there was nothing to do in that camp except the Wrestling sessions or swim. That was one of the great thrills of my life being able to shoot take downs with you for hours that week. I tried my heart out to score a point off of you, but you really were the best there was, and it was futile, I do think you appreciated my effort. It really made me sad when the Olympics were off in 1980. Thanks for the response, I seen you recently on one of the College Wrestling stations, you still look great.
@@marcbalter3096 Got my dates wrong, it was the summer of 1978, my ability's moved to the next level after spending that Week with you, thanks to You Tube I can finally thank you for that, made it to the NY State finals in 1979. I recently went back to my old high school to teach these guys some of my old moves, when I demonstrated the fake shoot to the left then hit the right hard, I let them know about the week I spent with you, and that you were the one who taught me that move, and how you got royally screwed with the Olympics, since I had met you I always took that move by Carter personally. Cheers! And congrats on your remarkable Wrestling career.
Unfortunately the President at the time, Jimmy Carter was playing politics with the Olympics, and Lee Kemp was a shoe in for Olympic-Gold. Could you imagine that, you make the Olympic team and the President decides to boycott the Olympics. That really ticked me off.
Lee came to train with Mark Churella in Las Vegas, I would just stay against the wall and watch 2 3 vtime NCAA champions going at it. They were the two best 163lbs in the World at the time.
