Lee Mack reveals why he hates the popular TV programme Top Gear! Subscribe for more: bit.ly/hattricksub Visit Our Website: www.hattrick.co.uk/ Follow Hat Trick: / hattrickprod Like Hat Trick: pages/Hattri...
I love Lee Mack and i love Top Gear. I honestly don't know why people are so bothered that someone else has an opinion different than theirs. It doesn't stop you enjoying it.
Steven Narey he said he's speaking for everyone, which in my opinion is a very ignorant way of phrasing his thoughts and I think that's why people are annoyed
It's his toddler's monomaniacal view of the world that offends people. "Cars are boring" despite the massive enthusiast following that supports multiple car magazines and TV shows in many countries. "Am I the only person who has never driven a car off a road" Certainly not. Many people don't, but quite a few do. Those who do will purchase a vehicle that specializes in that aspect of mobility. There are whole National Recreation Areas set aside for the purpose of providing responsible, safe areas for people to drive off the main highways. "It doesn't have anything to do with my experience of driving". Yeah, so what... Cupholders: "If it's on the right, it's a good design. If it's on the left, bad design, because I'm right-handed." Ironically. it's the same sort of amusement at watching a grown man spout off opinions on subjects he knows nothing about that gives Jeremy Clarkson a lot of his popularity on the right.
+Mista J The whole point of saying 'I speak for everyone in the world' though is it's the kind of extreme exaggeration you do when you're making it super obvious it's a joke.
You appear to miss the irony here. When we liked a Lady in the Office and she messed up or said something silly I would say " I am SURE i speak for everyone here" whicj, of course, I did not as she was , deservedly, popular...
The fact that so many fans have lost interest in the franchise now that the big three have left should tell you how much of the show's appeal was really about the cars.
True JJ H, unfortunately The Grand Tour is even more staged. I've had really fun watching Top Gear but it feels like they are past their comedic prime. RIP and all that
@@Harvester236 I hate to break it to you, but Top Gear was exactly the same. You view it with rose tinted glasses, but it was always scripted and painfully unfunny.
@@lewis72 even after it got reformatted it still was about cars...only about 2009 2010 the entertainment side started to dominate rather then being an ingredient in the recipe
I think Lee Mack would do great on a car show, cause he'd always claim he doesn't like cars and rant about them but would be going 'phwoar' every time he sees or drives a sports car.
Looks like this video touched a nerve with a few people in this comments section. Look, not liking Top Gear isn't the worst thing to happen since [insert national disaster here], it's merely an opinion, and there's no need to get so anally pained because of it.
It's kind of dumb though, when a random dude i never heard about tries to steal some fame by attacking the most watched show on the planet. Put it like this. If top gear only had a small audience he would never have mentioned it. See what i'm saying? No he's just an average hater nobody.
Hjembrent Kent steal some fame? He's a professional comedian, he's paid to be funny in moderately successful British TV shows, and his own stand up shows, and by the way he's in a lot of them. Clearly you don't watch much comedy, which just suggests you're completely humourless. Anyway it's ok to shit on someone but you're literally making the wrong assumptions about him - he's very far from being one of the fame-crazy attention whores, that suggestion is just silly.
His arguments against the show are shit, but so are your arguments against him. He at least has seen the show he's talking about while you started Off by saying you've never heard of him, then proceeded to paint a picture of him (which was completely inaccurate). How can you say he's this, that or the other when by your own admission you know nothing about him. I'm not overly fond of him, but your being very unjust.
At this time of his life, Frank Skinner looks like Alan Partridge did when he had a nervous breakdown, became addicted to Toblerone and drove to Dundee in his bare feet.
The reason top gear was so popular with the trio, was because it was more than just information about cars, it was the entertainment they provided while using cars.
Top Gear isn't meant to be taken seriously. It's a cartoon and has been since Hammond had his drag crash. I'm that guy that watches all the reruns on Dave because it's entertaining and some of the stuff they do like driving to the North Pole, buying cheap cars and driving them across the rainforest is brilliant.
I've never watched Top Gear for the challenges, it's always been to see reviews of the more futuristic vehicles (I still want that quad bike that turns into a jet ski)
I know the comment is three years old but I’m going to reply anyway! Fast cars are not just about simply going fast for the sake of it. A fast car is extremely good for overtaking for example, which makes it safer and more efficient than a slow car.
@@pippipster6767 I know YOUR comment is four hours old but I'm going to reply anyway! You want a fast car for the fun of it, it's not more complicated than that. You make pragmatic justifications for it, however thin, to soften the blow of the price tag. Overtake shmovertake.
@@Munkenba Don’t get me wrong ... a fast car is great fun. I’ve had many cars. I had one that would gradually slow down if going up hill. I’ve had a few that when overtaking just got embarrassing as my car inched by. Occasionally I would have to cancel the overtake and sheepishly go back. In a fast car ... none of that.
"I'm not talking about your heavy drinking days Ruby.." brutal. I quite like Ruby, but @ 0.52 that is a face of someone who has been slayed. Lesson; don't interrupt the Mack.
you want to know why? Well, the received pronunciation of Lee Mack is a hint as to why he "hates" Top Gear. Top Gear is a show for people who enjoy the aesthetics of things, from the lines on a cars design to how it handles. This is generally going to be something more for the working class to enjoy than the upper crust of society. He doesn't hate Top Gear, he's just had a plum in his gob long enough to think that "he's above that sort of rubbish, the driving isn't even fun" If you've ever had a stretch of motorway in front of you and just gone "fuck it!" and floored it at a hundred or so, you know why people like Top Gear
@@patrickgleason2066 y'know Americans would find the idea of Public School for British people weird. But as far as I know I don't think Clarkson went to public school, he went to one like the rest of the UK, with the rest of the population. Don't know about May or Hammond. I was on about Lee Mack
In my world I either watch something because I enjoy it or I don't watch it because I don't. I see no point in wasting my short life by moaning about things I don't like, it's more fun just enjoying the things I do like. But I guess if everyone was the same life would be boring?
As much as I love Lee Mack, I think his argument falls down a bit when he mentioned he owns a classic Triumph. If he really didn't care for cars as much as he claims, he wouldn't have gone to the lengths to acquire and maintain a vehicle like that.
The fact that Top Gear is scripted isn't a problem. It's the fact that they pretend like it's not. They can't act and it shows. The worst offender for me was when they bought James May this shitty little car that he really liked and then a huge lorry reversed into it and it was all played as though it wasn't scripted or planned. Their reactions are fake. The whole thing was fake. Another one is when Hammond "forgot" to put the handbrake on when his 4x4 rolled down that sand dune or whatever it was after they'd taking the 4x4's through the jungle. Again I forget the specifics but it was played for real when it was clearly all faked.
I think the best example of this was the first season of Grand Tour, the most scripted content they’ve ever done was also the worst quite comfortably. They dialled it back but I really miss the scripted scenario and improv format of the first 10 or so seasons of the new TG. It was the right balance but they overcooked it.
The beauty of Top Gear is that you don't have to like cars to enjoy it. It's just three arseholes being funny and doing entertainingly silly car-based challenges. What's not to like?
That part of it is fun and relatable. It's the way that they review insanely expensive, unobtainable cars that is out of touch and on that front I'm mostly on board with Lee here. I don't know that there's a lot about the way they talk about various Porsches and MacLarens and Bugatti Veyrons that translates very well to my ownership of a VW Jetta. Granted, those cars are still VERY cool and impressive, but it does make the show feel a little targeted for a wealthy upper class.
Honestly would you be more interested if they did Skoda reviews instead? That's the whole point, they make expensive cars accessible to the public, cars you probably would never see in real life anyway. Thats's like saying i hate astronomy because i can't visit every star. Think for a moment please.
Jeremy Clarkson is a manchild, James may is slow, Richard Hammond is short, political correctness is stupid, caravans are shit, speeding is cool, other countries are different to England. There, that's every low hanging Top Gear 'joke' ever.
Top gear is an entertaining comedic show that is wrapped together with a loss theme of cars. Personally I like cars but wouldn’t watch it without the humorous trio and their drastically different personalities
Jaguar is the name of a large cat from Central America. Hence, Jag u er is the British pronunciation of a Central American word. Ergo, Jag u er is incorrect.
Top gear wasn't about cars. It's was about three mates having fun and doing stupid things. Clarkson saying anything to outrageous the politically correct. Cars were only props.
Most banter on TV is scripted or highly edited. QI films for 3 hours to get 45 minutes and the panelists know what they are going to talk about ahead of time to plan jokes if they want to. Alan doesn't though.
top gear now is crapper than top gear then. Then it was Clarkson creaming his pants over the latest Ferrari. Now it's just a gang of lads pissing about in cars. the cars are just incidental.
they were always incidental, Clarkson had a running joke that the producers wanted him to tell the viewers some car facts so that they knew what their tax money was being spent on. Anyone who liked the OG Top Gear has The Grand Tour which makes bringing up complaints about the new TG completely redundant.
I just had regular interest in cars before I started watching Top Gear, but now cars make up a big part of my life. And I noticed that Lee who said he had little interest in cars , mentioned the year , make and model of his car in full, with a certain amount of pride. No interest in cars?
That was the joke, he does that all the time, seriously what he means is he has no interest in the mechanics, like James may, he just likes the look, there isn't really another reason for owning a classic car
I thought the AIRS was made up and put on the end as a joke but no, it distinguishes his TR4 from the ones that didn’t have independent rear suspension. 😂
Now, I Love What Lee Does, And i Was Expecting a More Convincing Argument, Then It All Went To Shit At The, (1:50) Mark When Lee Unashamedly Admitted To Driving a : 1966 Triumph TR4A IRS - But That's Not The Point !!!!!!! Well Yes Lee, That Is The Point My Friend . . . . : 0 )
It was the joke you dude (he does it on wilty often), juxtaposing what he said with the fact that he owns a classic car - that's why he spelled out the full name, whereas Skinner just said: ... Grey... because you only own own of those for the look of it, but he isn't interested in the mechanical side of it like James may!
Wasn't Lee Mack once the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car on Top Gear? If he puts the show into room 101 and he appeared on the show, doesn't he go into room 101 by default?!
Top gear used to be about cars, it told you their features, functionality, and whether it was a good buy or not. This was the day when Angela Rippon was a presenter. Then it turned into blowing up caravans and I never watched it after that.
I enjoyed top gear. Being a automobile enthusiasts they covered auto's that I wouldn't have any chance of driving, the chemistry between all three is also a big part of the show.
Absolutely agree with you, the camera work and production on Top Gear was stunning and worthy of awards. I believe the talent behind this moved on to work with Clarkson on The Grand Tour, and you can see the same amazing camera work there.
i really don't rate the Grand Tour, the scripted humour has become far more obvious and Americanised. They get to use nicer cars etc. but the old top gear was far better, its become like a sitcom now
keenodribbles I dont think anyone used to watch Top Gear because of middle aged men.Thats like saying 'I like Watching superhero films because I like men in tights' and I say "Used to" because no one watches the current Top gear anymore.Though Grand Tour on the other hand is everything Top gear used to be but better
Frank: What do you drive, then? Lee: As it happens, I drive a 1966 Triumph TR4A IRS....but that's not the point...(audience laughing) It's not the point, is it, because - Frank (incredulous): That's not true, is it? Lee: No, it is, yeah. LOL
Yeah, well, Lee, you don't know or care how all the modern wonders around you work. At least there are people who do have an interest in that kind of stuff so that you can continued to be furnished the newest neat thing.
Or maybe there are some people who don't want, or have more important things on life to consider, than the idolisation of devises that pollute, kill, cost astronomical prices and cause more problems than they solve. Modern wonders, indeed. Personally, it think its like a mans version of interior design and property programs - vacant, uninformative, waste of time and money, and hosted by gob-shites...
I recently returned to driving after 5 years. Traffic jams, red lights, tailgaters, bikers who come from nowhere, overtaking then slowing on motorways. I sold the car, and have gone back to public transport and taxis.
I went in expecting to be upset, but I agree. Cars are really boring. A few stand out, like the Toyota Hillux that couldn't be destroyed, or the Spyker C8 that I adore the aesthetic of, but when they sit down and talk about a new sportscar or whatever I switch off a bit (not all the way, cos I know the three will give us some good material from it). I love the challenges, the humour, the Stig, the three guys' dynamic, and even a few of the cars they've shown, but I don't care for cars as a subject.
_And what purpose does torque have on a motorway? Nothing. You're cruising at a constant speed half of the time, so what's the point of knowing about torque?_
Lee Macks a typical lefty tosser - a man who doesnt like cars ,then says that about Top Gear n then says i ve got a classic .he s an idiot and he just doesnt like J Clarkeson .the audience was cheering him ,theyre prob hand picked with lefty leanings .skinners a lefty too.
No more hypocritical that the audience enthusiastically clapping at that statement, I guarantee the majority chose their cars based on them not being boring!
Top Gear used to be about boring reviews mentioning how many cupholders a car had. Then they realized they could make a comedy show of sorts where they just fuck about and they all became millionaires.
Hey a hipster who uses caps lock lmao, i thought all you guys wanted was to appear intelligent, with you glasses and snooty, slightly bitter attitudes.
The glasses are prescription. And yes you're right me declaring my love for Lee Mack is very snooty and bitter. Hope you find your ass since you laughed it off writing your thuper duper intelligent comment.
The thing I would put in room 101 would be people who brag about their holidays at dinner parties to people who haven’t been on holiday and can’t afford it
Don't ask Jeremy Clarkson for a free car, because it might upset him? He does his best work when he's upset. That's like giving Lee Mack a barely believable statement on your panel show, and not expecting him to explain it, on the spot.
I wish more people would understand the divide between what you want in real life and dealing with what is real life. You are never going to fall on one side or the other. Balance is a good thing and there is no point, nor does it make any sense for life to be simple, certain and straight-forward. If anything, it’s a mess, but that doesn’t have to be a nightmare. I can’t see people returning back to peace and quiet, but both ways of living can co-exist.
I love Top Gear. I have to say, I was not interested in cars before I saw it, but now I sort of am. Not mechanics, but cars in general. That's how good I think it is. It's just about fun, much more than cars, I think. I mean, they don't talk about cars that much anymore, all that stuff Lee said about torque and suspension stuff, they don't insist on that, do they? They're not those bores you overhear in pubs going on and on about how many MPGs their fucking Jag can do, and how much torque it develops... They are really fun and funny blokes, as it happens the cars in Top Gear are accessories to the fun, that's pretty much it.
He says he has no interest in cars but as soon as he got some money to spend he went and bought a classic car because he found it beautiful, well that's the whole point isn't it? We love cars for their beauty, or technical prowess, or for their performance or simply because of how they make us feel when we drive them, that's why you see some dude with a big smile behind the wheel of a 2000s hatback with a dent in it, if that's what he makes him happy versus a million dollar supercar what's the problem? Yes car design has changed but if you say all modern cars look the same you clearly haven't seen enough cars, with different shapes, different engine placements, different interiors. I find cars fascinating but I can't afford an expensive one and the trio has made Top Gear into what it is now, as soon as they left some people have stopped watching the new generation of TopGear, I gave it a shot, it's a good show, but it's different from when the urangutan, the hamster and the spaniel were there. They spoke to car enthusiasts, not just technical specs of the cars, they did the challenges where the script was written in a such a way that is made 3 middle aged men in 3 old scrappers enjoyable to watch. So you grew attached to the jokes and the emotion of driving, instead of learning about a new front differential and gas mileage.
Well, judging by the dislikes, a few people were quite butthurt haha XD I love Lee Mack and Top Gear (though I havent seen recent series that some people claim have become less good), but TG is NOT the best show on telly, that's QI, even Clarkson said that once :D
daysofgreenday65 He is quite boring yes, he's uncontroversial, posh, snooty, self important etc. All very bad traits when you try to pass yourself off as a comedian
In my 24 years of watching all sorts of american media, actors, hosts, people from USA, i must say that this woman *by FAR* has an accent that is so annoyingly american that i cannot take it.
Personally I love classic cars and bikes and aircraft. I have absolutely no interest in the wall to wall cooking programs that are always on TV . Can there be anything more boring than watching someone make a cake , nice to eat though 😁 The original Top gear with Clarkson May and Hammond has more entertainment in one episode than the whole combined series of master chef or cake making with Mary berry etc , it’s all down to what interests you have . Each to their own .
I love cars, I am a petrol head, which is the reason why I hate Top Gear. About 6-7 years ago the show was actually good, funny, entertaining, informative and about cars. Now it is just complete predictable bollocks which isn't funny and isn't about anything remotely interesting
***** Not really. It used to be then it went way to predictable and completely fake. I had decent moments but 80% of the time is was horrendously unfunny
Hjembrent Kent I'm not a petrol head because I don't like a show which has nothing to cars anymore and just bad humour. Also I bet you dont watch BTCC so your a poser. Same logic
It's horses for courses I guess. Love Lee Mack, but his statement shoulda' been about modern cars and their performance stats rather than say _'All cars are boring!...'_ before proceeding to discuss the looks of his classic Triumph. He seems more interested in the classic 60s era cars.
The irony in you insinuating, by spamming the YT comment section, that half of the worlds population are stupid simply due to the fact that they like a show you don't is truly astounding.
RisingTied72 you may have missed a couple of things there. A) The only true statement in my little syllogism there is the 50% thing. I don't mind Top Gear. It was using the 'argument from popularity' fallacy to imply a correlation with the percentage of people who comprise the 'under 100' median, which is an ill defined median indeed. Now, go look up 'irony'.
I personally love cars and loved top gear when it was these 3, hence I don’t love top gear anymore but I love the grand tour I think Lee has missed the point, I don’t have anything against him but saying you hate a show because it’s about something that doesn’t interest you is unfair, I don’t care about the kardashians, so I don’t watch keeping up with the kardashians, he doesn’t like cars clearly, so why would he 1) bother watching it, and 2) go on a show to speak about his disliking of the show, I agree with the host, even if you don’t like cars, it’s entertainment, because I agree, you can’t watch it to objectively gain a better understanding of cars, it’s Jeremy shouting about speed and power and sliding around the track in a cloud of smoke, as someone that has been into cars since I was 5 years old, top gear was actually one of the primary influences, but I would buy the top gear magazines as they had a section at the back where you could check out more of the statistics of the cars, like insurance groups and tax etc, I know that sounds boring but that’s how in depth I was, I could go out somewhere with my dad, he could point at a car and I could list different things about it
