He is brilliant off the cuff. Utterly brilliant. Which makes it feel odd that his sitcom is average at absolute best. When your stuff that you work on for ages is markedly less funny than what comes out of your mouth at any given moment, it's probably time to look again at how you write. I swear, just put the guy in a room with a sternographer and ordinary people prompting him on a given theme and then give that material to a a half-decent tv-writer and you'd end up with funnier scripts than the overwhelming majority of Not Going Out.

@@michaeljenkins7024 that is a conundrum that I've often wondered about too. Don't forget all "live" tv is scripted and to what degree we don't know. In this interview Lee didn't perk up until the 7 minute mark so this whole show might have been scripted. Not sure how much of WILTY is, probably a lot more than you'd think

They found out the beaver's anus thing because perfumers used to use extract from around that...area in the scents they made. I know this because I was really bored at an airport once and was looking up the ingredients in my cologne (which I couldn't bring on the flight). Couldn't stop laughing when I discovered I paid 100 bucks to smell like a beaver's arse.
