I’m a little jealous of him in a good way. I am happy for him and would never want to take from him. There is a part of me that wishes I would have taken a different road. Thanks for sharing. I hope he does very well. Texas Tech used to have a couple of promising leather programs in the 70’s; sadly no more.

My dad supposedly apprenticed under Charlie Dunn in the early 80's, at least according to him he did. He graduated high school in '76, spent 4 years in the Air Force, went to tech school in Oklahoma, spent a couple years living in Austin, Texas, then came back home to Ohio and opened his own boot shop. I never did see anything he made, no even a photograph, and I never saw him do any leather work at all. According to mom, his shop burned down in 1987 and his business partner opted to move on to something else instead of re-opening the boot shop, and it apparently crushed his soul. The only evidence I ever saw that he made boots was when we found several boxes full of old lasts when we were emptying out their basement after a flood.

Hang in there Casey, I appreciate the fortitude, once upon a time I apprenticed as a butcher, very hard work and very different times, that's when everything comes was hanging beef. 30 yrs later, I do think I have much more to learn, 😁

From 1980 to 1990 all kids in Europe wanted American boots. That was the time American jeans was available in our local shops. All gone. We were more American than the Americans themselves.

Wow! FOUR YEARS? Would love to own a pair. Would assume you could not walk out the door with a pair of basics for less than 2k.
