Great modifications! Just bought a six pack pro as my first progressive and I'm very impressed with it. For $50 more than a rock chucker (bought it for $250 from midway) you get an auto indexing, 6 station press. Amazing value.
Ray, I have the Inline Bullet Feeder. I tested it on my Lee Loadmaster and it works like a charm. I watched the video on the Inline Bullet Feeder the guy who made the video explains it real good. I bought the Inline Bullet Feeder off Amazon. You going to love it.
I just bought one of these too,the primer tray didn't shake enough to keep the trough full. Had same problem on my 1000 I used to have,I took post out and put a few light chisel hits where trough rod rides. No issues any more,never missed and no more powder dumps on carrier.
Been reloading with this press since Feb. (1,000s of really good 9mm rounds) Agree, it's a terrific press! I LOVE your idea for the primer arm stopping pin you made--to stop the primers, I have been using a tooth pick to stick thru the primer chute channel to grab and drag up the very bottom primer, then shoving a cut q-tip in the channel below it to stop the flow of primers...and frequently having to pluck the primer already in the arm out with tweezers....so, yes, pita :) Did you just use a coat hanger wire as your stopper?? just trying to get an idea of the size of hole you drilled, as I don't want to go to far. I'm just starting to get into reloading and looking for my first press. Wanting to reload 9mm,.223, and 6.5Grendel. I was looking at the 6000 since I could potentially remove the indexing rod and use this as a single/turret at first, and then as a progressive as I learn more. Would you recommend this press? Would you load rifle rounds on it? Ever used it without the auto indexing turned on?
Been loading on one for months now. Haven't pulled the rod out to stop indexing, but I do manually index it when I'm setting up the various dies, or when I mess up, so no reason you can't use it single stage. Haven't done "large" rifle, but it has no problem with 300 blackout. I might try 308 at some point, but this far haven't shot it in quantities where setting up the progressive to load it was worth it. I did add bullet and case feed for the 9mm ("The Silver Layer") I load, and it's been great with the Lee bullet feed die. No issues with the case feed/fallover problem that this video talks about, and not touching bullets means I'm focused on powder and primer. I too am running the old round primer trays (btw they will fit 250 primers but may not feed without attention) as they are so fast and easy to load. I could never use a Dillon style tube.
@@danya822 Really helpful info. Thank you. I don't expect I'll ever want to do any large cartridges, so it's good to know that it's been feeding well for you. And it's nice to know I can potentially manually index it with the rod in. That may be a better solution than using it as a single stage.
@@craigbrown1854 Well if you leave the rod in, it's going to index lol. But you can also run things through in stages if you like, especially pistol if you use the case feed setup, if you wanted to decap/resize first, then next, etc. But at that point you might as well run it progressive...priming is the next position, which can also be powder feed, and if you have powder, now bullet, and if you have bullet, you can then seat and crimp, or seat and crimp separate (which I do, since I load a lot of cast/PC bullets). The only thing about a progressive like this is that once you start, pausing is hard....it will feed cases, it will prime, it will decap, it will feed powder, it will crimp, etc etc, without you doing anything but pulling the lever. Once you stop case feed then you can clear the shellplate of casings if you need to address something. It's really best to set it up manually feeding a case at a time to set sizing die height, then powder feed/flare, then bullet seating, then crimp. After all that, you are best off just running it as a progressive. You just have to make sure everything is right before you start auto case feed. :)
I’m going to purchase the 6000, and I am going to do your modifications. For the life of me, I have no idea where to find that old style round primer magazine. Where/how did you find one? I thought it was just the magazine off the old Lee hand priming tool. I got one, and it’s totally the wrong fit/unit. Help please!! Thank you, sir!
Yup, Impossible to find these round primer magazines. Wish someone would 3D print them, with a couple modifications to make them even better! I've had these for decades from older LEE presses. Ebay might be a place to look. Or call LEE and see if they have some in the back room. Thanks
