I remember watching this when it aired and just like back then to this day I still get goosebumps. I used to love watching Award shows in the 80's and 90's because of the caliber of artists like Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and Prince not to mention countless others like Luther Vandross would be performing and you knew you were in for an event.

The reason why you say it was like gospel is because Whitney was first and foremost a gospel singer. Yes she sang pop and RnB but she was a gospel singer. Go listen to one of her first album concerts-she sang He, I Believe (a song her mother recorded). She’s the greatest vocalist of all time.

That dress is in the Smithsonian! Some day I will get there to see it and probably cry.
