Left ventricular unloading during ECMO 

The need for and proper practice of unloading, or "venting", the left ventricle while a patient requires temporary mechanical circulatory support in the form of VA ECMO is often debated. In this excellent presentation, Dr. Aniket S. Rali of Vanderbilt University summarizes past research which has attempted to answer these questions, while also offering some thoughts on how the clinical research committee may tackle the issue in the years to come.
