My grandad survived three years as captive in WW2. One year in an Italian camp and two years in Dachau. He spoke little about his experience but one day he told me about the CAPOs the camp police. If I went to a new country and started screaming and protesting about the way that country has been doing things, I might expect that they tell me to go back where I came from. Of course, if I was protesting against a drug den they were trying to open up in my neighborhood, I might think they should understand why I wouldn't want it near me and ask them to move it next to their house(s).

Doesn’t excuse the disgusting behaviour but there is some context behind the burning of the driverless car. This was in China Town on Chinese Near Year, the streets get taken over by people celebrating, private cars and taxi drivers know to avoid the area at this one time of the year, but the ‘AI’ logic of the driverless taxi doesn’t and it tried to force its way though the crowds. Doesn’t excuse the actions of the crowd but it does highlight a problem with driverless cars.

I have been visiting San Francisco since I was a kid in the 70s. It has always given me the creeps. i’ve never come home from a visit to San Francisco and thought “oh, what a delightful time I had“. Not once. In 53 years.
