I have a Lefty on order - should be here tomorrow!!! Same model that you are playing - different color. Can't fool wife as this is my first guitar! Age: 87.... I start live lessons here in town next week Don
I went to AZ for work and didn't have a guitar for two weeks. I stopped in the only store in town and this was on the wall --- it was the only left handed guitar in the entire store and didn't even have a tag on it ---- I played it for a bit just intending to play something before my red-eye flight back to home. I ended up buying it with a case and brought it home with me. Neck is the reason I bought it, and that it sounded good unplugged. I have it hooked up to my shitty little 3w amp and I'm delighted by these pickups. Can't wait to plug into my AC30
One year later, I have purchased this guitar in the single barrel stain finish. I should receive it this week. I am a lefty as well. Your demonstration and review has been the primary reason for my decision. Thank you. I can't wait to see more of your demos and critiques. I play acoustics primarily. I would enjoy seeing more of your demos perhaps with acoustic guitars. Thanks Chris.
Thank you for such a great review. Great playing. I am a lefty and it's hard to find good guitars at a good price. So this channel is a great benefit for me to look for left-hand guitar reviews as many brands have almost all or over 95% of their guitars for right-hand players only.
great review, i bought one of these the other day. I tried it out in the guitar shop near me when i went to buy a casino i couldn't stop thinking about it i was blown away by it and bought it a couple of days later its now possibly one of my favourite guitars ever.
Im really glad you tested this. Not much choice for semi hollow guitars for lefties. Im looking at this or the ibanez as 93. Your outro jam reminded me a bit of Nuno Bettencourt. 👌🏻
I'll get one of these one day! The problem is, I say this about the entire Gretsch lefty line up. Great shout on AC/DC live too, that album was a really big part of my childhood
Just ordered this......Great channel for us Lefties. Enjoyed your demo and review. This will be my first Gretsch....It looks and sounds great. Have subscribed!
This is one of the best demos of this guitar. I grabbed one for $250 US, used at GC. It would be a keeper at three times that price. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. I even like the pickups. I have the second version with the improved pickups.
Hello, can you explain how can I differentiate the 2nd version? I'm a newbie and about to pick up 9ne of these but have no idea. If you could help. Thanks in advance
@@kanjinha I’m pretty sure that you can tell by the pickguard. The earliest versions had a black pickguard. When they released the later versions with improved pickups, they have tortoise shell pickguards. This may not be 100%, but I’m pretty sure.
i went into my local music shop last year - between lockdowns 1 and 2 - to order one of these, and instead I left the shop with a barely-used G5420LH for £500. Which was nice. So I still need to get one of these - shame they don't come with Bigsbys.
update: i bought it at the beginning of 2021. it's the best guitar i've ever had, it sounds amazing and looks amazing! i customized it (i bought new knobs and made a pickguard), and i want to change its pickups (at least the bridge one because the neck one sounds amazing) to gretsch filtertrones so it can sound even more amazing! im truly in love with it and wouldnt buy it if i didnt see your video!
It's a great value. I have a Harley Benton MR Classic lefty. I'm looking to upgrade. Always loved the Gretsch centerblocks. Versatile. If I played professionally I'd put Filtertrons in. My first guitar was a Danelectro. Thanks for the demo
The g5222 has recently come out for leftys.the double cut away.most on pre order I just the other week got one new from andertons for 500 natural colour looks blinding in the flesh.i was gonna get this I have a 335 type for 20 years but loved that gunmetal snd eoukd of got the junior size if done them gor leftys. Go look st the g5222 .done in sapphire as well with filtrons and same price .natural is broadtrons.
I just bought the righty version! It's on the way. Was fiending and couldn't find a video with the righty in this color but I just pretended like I was looking in the mirror. You are definitely prequel Obi Wan tho...
Wow ! That last rock riff you were jamming to on the streamliner was dope ! Is that an original song? I was blown away. The guitar sounds amazing.I just ordered mine through guitar center, but the right handed one,and I can,t wait to get it.I ordered mine in the midnight sapphire color,it,s beautiful. Great guitar for the money. THANKS
Pick up recommendation for this guitar. Curtis novac thunderbird pick ups voiced for guitar (yes its the bass pickups, not the firebird ones). Amazing sounding!
Great channel! Lefty here too. Looking for a double jet at the moment, but I wish they made more with a Bigsby in left hand. How is the neck on these? Is it slim or chunky?
You would like the Gretsch G2627tg more. It has a nicer neck than other Streamliners, and the first Broadtrons sound better than the upgraded BT- 2S Broadtrons, in my opinion. The G2627tg is a Limited Edition Exclusive, sporting three Broadtron pickups. Awesome! Check it out!
I'm a (lefty) white falcon owner, I am seriously thinking of getting this as a second. It's different enough to warrant it. I won't play anything but gretsch electrics now.
A channel for lefties! You have my attention. I was searching YT for info on this guitar. You play great by the way. How do you think this guitar would work for jazz? Thanks
I haven’t played the G5220 as it’s not available in lefty, but have played the higher price Jets; they’re obviously very different to this guitar. Looks like the 5220’s are a similar price point to this one though so I’d assume the quality is the same, which on this one is amazing for the price.
My gretsch streamliner left handed came yesterday from Amazon delivered by UPS they delivered all my guitars anyway I love it great action amp sound also just the best cool body style to and color lot of fun to play and it's a name brand like my Epiphone Les Paul and my fender squire my other guitars are copies there good to
Hey, great review and playing, it's nice to see a channel for lefty guitars, thanks! When I saw this guitar the other day I couldn't believe the price, it looks and sounds great. Could you tell me what the pots. are like on it please? Are they linear wired backwards, reverse taper or **shudder** standard taper wired backwards? It's a crazy thing to have to ask, but my Fender Strat. Pro is the only guitar I've ever bought that came with 'lefty' pots! It really should be the industry standard at this point but even a £3k Gibson LP custom I tried had pots wired backwards that were like on/off switches!
I think these are fantastic guitars for the money. I feel, though, that most Gretsch guitars, and also most Rickenbackers, work best in a band context, and nowadays I'm just a bedroom player, so I think I'm passing, but who knows with me? :)
The shame is, being lefty, you can't have a Bigsby, even if you wanted one, on these lower value ones. Its only the Japanese Terada built ones that come with the US Bigsby's - the cheaper licenced ones Gretsch wont order left handed. And be nice if we had the colour options of the righties.
You’re absolutely right. This is something I talked about in the video for the G5420 which is another lower price Gretsch; the right handed version is available with a Bigsby, but not the lefty... I hope this changes.
Not included but you can buy them and fit them, not difficult to do. Or...fit a Deusenberg Les Trem ii, very quick and easy and can be removed if needed.
@@beefyburt The issue, is if the bigsby isnt "factory" then you cannot readilly refit them to these cheaper Gretsch's. - The reason, that awful v shaped stop bar - the spacing for the mountings - wont fit any sort of aftermarket tension bar - you just end up with holes in the top of your guitar. - Nor will a vibramate fit the holes. -
@@jujuUK68 I have seen on a forum a picture of one with a bigsby fitted, with a tension bar accross to replace the v. looks cool. Ive fitted a Les Trem before to one, way easier, cheaper, looks better I think. Ive another guitar on order and im going to try the Goldo model, which has a flat trem bar rather than the one on the Les Trem.
@@beefyburt Be interested to see the pic. I'd read on a Gretshc owners forum - that See with the 5xxx series, with the trapeeze taipiece, a bigsby is a few mins work to pin to the guitar, but understood on these cheaper 2xxx series, the V Stopbar with its unusual, narrower mounting bushing spacings make vibramates, impossible, and bigsbys impossible, which is why they have to be "factory" installed", ahd why its so annoying they wont do it for lefities
